Pearl A. Nelson, age 88 of Brooten, died on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the Brooten Community Church. Burial will be at the Methodist Cemetery in Belgrade. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Church and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pearl Albertina Nelson was born on June 26, 1923, in Madelia, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence and Albertina (Schwanke) Johnson. She attended elementary school in Madelia where she grew up. In 1936 she moved with her family to Willmar where she worked as a waitress. On October 16, 1947, Pearl was united in marriage to Henry Nelson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. This union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. The family made their home in rural Brooten where Pearl helped Henry with the farming. Pearl also worked at Jennie O in Melrose and as a Home Health Aide with Stearns County Community Health.
Pearl was a member of Brooten Community Church in Brooten. She was active there in the ladies aide. Pearl loved her home and being on the farm. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing quilts, crocheting, and working with beads. Pearl especially loved her grandchildren, and looked forward to the time they would get to spend together.
Pearl Albertina Nelson died on Sunday, June 24, 2012, she was 88. Pearl is survived by her children, James Nelson of Brooten, Kern (Char) Nelson of Brooten, Vera Nelson of St. Paul, and Ilene (John) Nelsen of Atwater; grandchildren Bailey, Tia, and Taylor Nelson, and Breanne, Emily and Glenn Nelsen of Atwater. She is also survived by her sister Lila Gomer of Burtrum; and brother, Gust Johnson of Belgrade.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.
