Harriet E. Travis, 96, of Willmar died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at First Covenant Church in Willmar with interment at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5 - 7 pm, Monday, July 2, 2012 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harriet Eleanor Travis was born February 2, 1916, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Carl H. and Eleanor (Bodin) Johnson. She grew up in Minneapolis, Michigan , Iowa, Indiana and Ohio, before moving back to Minnesota in 1933. Harriet graduated from Brainerd High School in 1934. After high school, she enrolled in several business and banking classes. Harriet was united in marriage to Eugene E. Travis in Minneapolis. To this union three children were born, Kay, Ronald and Robert. Following their marriage they lived in Willmar where Harriet worked as a bookkeeper at Amundson & Evans Garage and later at First National Bank, retiring in 1981.
Harriet was a member of First Covenant Church where she had been active with Dorcas Circle and Young at Heart. She served as treasurer for the Covenant Women and also for First Covenant Church. Harriet also served as the first woman trustee of the church.
She was a board member and treasurer of Willmar Sr. Citizens and also a member of AARP.
Surviving are her children, Kay (and James) Boyer of Willmar, Ronald (and Janet) Travis of Spring Lake Park, Robert (and Kathleen) Travis of Willmar; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Jean Hawks, Cannon Falls, and Carole (and Elmer) Nelson of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Jane Johnson of Willmar; and several nieces and nephews.
