Johanna “Jo” Hoogeveen, age 84 of Willmar died on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Willmar Christian Reformed Church. Committal service for family and friends will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. A Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Willmar Christian Reformed Church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Johanna “Jo” Hoogeveen was born on June 16, 1928 in Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Johanna (VanderStelt) DeKruyf. The family moved to rural Sauk Centre where Jo attended country school. She was united in marriage to Alvin Hoogeveen on June 16, 1948 in Brooten, Minnesota. The couple lived throughout the upper mid-west settling in Willmar in 1951 and were blessed with four children.
Jo was a member of the Willmar Christian Reformed Church where she was involved in Ladies Aid, Sunday School and Bible School. She volunteered at Bibles for Mission Thrift Store for many years.
Jo enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and a master gardener. She and Alvin enjoyed bird watching, and wood working.
Surviving is her husband: Alvin Hoogeveen of Willmar, Rosella (Harry) Rutgers of Marne, Michigan, Joanne (Robert) VerSteeg of Willmar, Carol (Robert) Slings of New Brighton, Doug (Janis) Hoogeveen of Atwater; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; Jo is also survived by her three brothers: John (Thana) DeKruyf, Adrian (Margaret) DeKruyf, and Anton (Gert) DeKruyf and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
