Celestine “Sal” Schirmers, age 82 of Willmar, died on Sunday, December 24, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Celestine “Sal” Stephen Schirmers was born on February 17, 1924 in Buckman, Minnesota, the son of Stephen and Maria (Schmidt) Schirmers. He grew up on a farm near Buckman and attended country school. Sal assisted his family on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Marcella “Sally” Zuleger on August 17, 1946 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in St. Paul. Two sons were blessed to this union. The couple lived in St. Paul, Willmar and Bainbridge, Georgia, Red Lake Falls and returned to Willmar in 1980. He managed the Edge of Town Motel in Willmar and was co-owner of the Liquor Mart in downtown Willmar retiring in 2000. Sally passed away on June 5, 2006.

Sal was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith, and was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar where he was active in the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher.

Sal enjoyed watching sporting events especially Minnesota Twins baseball. He was a dog lover and they always had a pet dog or would baby sit Rick’s dog. Sal and Sally enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and attending their activities. Sal would always try to bring them to a Twin’s game at least once a year.

On Sunday, December 24, 2006 Sal died at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his son’s: Terry Schirmers and Rick (and Lynnette) Schirmers of Willmar; grandchildren: Darin (and fiancé Magen) Schirmers of Willmar and Stephanie Schirmers (and special friend Ben) of Sioux Falls, SD, two sisters: Theodora Zuleger of Chicago, and Loretta LaHay of Minneapolis; brother Leo (and Angeline) Schirmers of St. Paul and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his wife, Sally, Sal was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Elma and Marie, and brother, Alfred.

Ralph Nemec 86, of Waconia and formerly of Willmar, died on Tuesday at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday (December 26th) at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Interment in Cloverleaf Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from noon until time of service at the funeral home.

Ralph Edward Nemec was born on October 5, 1920, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Edward J. and Oliva J. (Rogers) Nemec. He grew up in the Omaha area where he attended his schooling.

On March 18, 1940, Ralph was united in marriage to Maxine Helen McGrann at Omaha, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three daughters. They lived in the Omaha area until 1945, when they moved to the Willmar area. While living in Willmar Ralph worked with Nelson Construction and also owned and operated Nemec Construction. Maxine preceded him in death on March 13, 1976. Ralph moved to Minneapolis where he worked for Adolphs and Peterson Construction retiring in 1992. He wintered for a number of years in Arizona.

He served in the US Navy from January 8, 1943, through November 5, 1945, and was a member of American Legion Post #167 and VFW Post # 1639 in Willmar at the time of his death. He had also served for a number of years with the Willmar Fire Department.

Ralph was baptized and confirmed in Omaha and had been a member of Vinje Lutheran Church while living in the Willmar community.

His hobbies included flying, having his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed fishing, reading and was very interested in history and facts. He loved to dance, especially the polka and swing dancing with his daughters. The children recall going to Canada camping and fishing when they were younger.

Surviving are his daughters, Pamela Roth, Elmwood, Wisconsin, Kristine Knuteson, Willmar and Patricia Schrade, Glencoe; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Maxine, Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn.

Louise Ennenga, age 74 of Willmar died on Sunday, December 17, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11:00am on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Louise Ann Ennenga was born on July 25, 1932 in Roseland Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Ludwig and Anna (Toupal) Feifarek. She grew up in the Roseland area and attended District 90 Country School in Roseland Township. She graduated from Willmar High School. After graduation she worked at Woolworths and Tempo in Willmar for many years. She was united in marriage to Delmar D. Ennenga on September 12, 1953 at the Calvary Lutheran Church Parsonage in Willmar. They farmed near Priam and later moved to the Willmar area. Two daughters where blessed to this union. Following Delmars death in 1985, Louise continued to live in Willmar.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. She was a life member of the Willmar V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 1639 where she served as District 5 Secretary for many years up to the time of her death.

Louise enjoyed cooking, baking, and working on word puzzles.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Williams of Willmar, grandson Steven (and Heidi) Ennenga, granddaughter Karla Williams (and special friend Ken Meyer); three great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Koby and Samantha; sister Eleanor Monson of Willmar; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and her daughter Collette Marie Ennenga on November 26, 2006.

Jan A. Bengtson, age 56 of New London, died peacefully after a long illness on, Wednesday December 13, 2006 at his home near New London. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London, with Rev. Jeff Bergman officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Colfax Cemetery.
A gathering of friends and family will be Saturday from 1-5:00 pm at Peace Lutheran church in New London.
Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Jan Allen Bengtson was born on January 28, 1950 in Willmar, the son of john and June (Werner) Bengtson. On February 26, 1950 he was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar and later he was also confirmed into the Christian faith at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Jan attended Kandiyohi Elementary School, and graduated from Willmar High School in 1968. On December 28, 1968 he was united in marriage to Judy Schroeder at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. To this union two sons were born. The family lived in the St. Cloud area where Jan worked for the Sartell School District. On September 1, 1979 Jan was united in marriage to Lovona Farrell at their home on the Horse Shoe Chain of Lakes in Richmond. Two daughters were born to this union. In 2003 Jan moved to the Bengtson family farm in rural New London. Jan started driving truck when he moved to Richmond and continued to do so until he became ill.

Jan was a member of Paynesville Lutheran Church in Paynesville. He enjoyed mechanic and auto body work, and going to the races. Jan also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating, auto races, attending sporting events, and playing cards with the grandkids. Jan will be remembered by his family for being a great father and family man.

Jan A. Bengtson died peacefully after a long illness on, Wednesday December 13, 2006 at his home near New London at the age 56. He is survived by his children, Jason (Lisa) of Rice, Jordan (Angie) of Rice, Valerie Bengtson of Richmond, and Sone Bengtson of Duluth; grandchildren, Dylan, Kyah, Gabriel, Landon, and Ethan; mother, June of Kandiyohi; brothers, Joel (Cathy) of Avon, and Jerome (Kristi) of Kandiyohi; nieces and nephews, Justin, Laura, Kendra, Angela, Lynsey, and Michaela. He was preceded in death by his father John.

Hailey Lynn Wendlandt, 5 month old infant daughter of Cory Wendlandt and Beth Adey of Paynesville, died on Wednesday afternoon, December 13, 2006 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2006 at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Paynesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5- 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville where there will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Hailey Lynn Wendlandt was born on June 19, 2006, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, the daughter of Cory Wendlandt and Bethany Adey. She lived with her parents and sister, Alexa in rural Paynesville. She was a strong baby with beautiful big blue eyes, known as “hay bug” by all those that loved her. She was an especially happy baby; that love to giggle, smile, look at the dog, play with her sister and be held by all. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew her.
Hailey Lynn died on Wednesday afternoon, December 13, 2006 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis at the age of 5 months and 24 days. She is survived by her parents, Beth Adey and Corey Wendlandt of Paynesville; grandparents, Kip and Judy Wendlandt of Belgrade, Terra Lexow and special friend Red Newville of Spicer and Kevin (Wendy) Adey of Sunburg; great-grandparents, Rita Jaeger of Paynesville, Darlene Wendlandt of Belgrade, Carole (Maurie) DuBois of St. Francis and Lee (Mary Sue) Adey of Edina; Aunts, Andrea Adey of Willmar and Erica Wendlandt of Belgrade; and uncle, Brandon (Melissa) Wendlandt of Paynesville.

Henry R. Odland, age 81 of New London, died Monday evening, December 12, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5- 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Henry Richard Odland was born on January 25, 1925 in Belgrade, the son of Adolph and Millie (Anderson) Odland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith at Crow River Lutheran Church. He grew up on the family farm near Belgrade where he attended a rural country school and Belgrade High School.
Henry farmed the family farm until 1970 when he moved to New London. He then worked for the New London Senior Citizens Center and has been tuning pianos and organs in the area for over fifty years. He sold his home in 2002 and moved to Cottenwood apartments in Spicer.
Henry was a life long member of Crow River Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school and played the organ for many years. Much of his time was spent with his music, playing in many bands and entertaining at many nursing homes in the area over the years. He was also a devoted son and caregiver to his mother following the death of his father.
Henry died on Monday evening, December 11, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 81. He is survived by sister, LuElla Gunderson of New London; brothers, Kenneth (Maryls) Odland of Willmar and Leonard (June) Odland of Spicer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Henry was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes M. Mair; nephew, Larry Thorson and brother-in-law, Bill Mair.

Michael Shawn Bengtson, 46, of Pennock died Monday at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Michael was born February 17, 1960 in Willmar, the son of Elwood and Merrily (Gilbert) Bengtson. He lived in Kerkhoven until 1971, when he moved with his family to Willmar and later to Pennock. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1978. On September 25, 1982, Mike was united in marriage to Brenda Lee Nelson at Mamrelund Lutheran Church. To this union two daughters were born. Following their marriage they lived in New London. In 1991, he moved to Pennock. Mike was self-employed as a painter for 26 years.

Mike was baptized at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church and confirmed his faith at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar.

Surviving are his daughters, Tifanie Gene Bengtson of Spicer and Charline Lee Bengtson of Minneapolis; grandson, Jamisen Oscar Carlson; mother, Merrily Carlson of Pennock; sisters, Kathy Cain of Willmar and Lori (and Ken) Jabs of Jordan; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Elwood.

Earl B. Olson, 91 years, seven months and three days, of Willmar, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, December 16 at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Private Family burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, 1000 19th Ave SW, Willmar, MN, 56201, (320) 235-0545 and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society, Concordia College, Luther Seminary or Vinje Lutheran Church.

Earl was born on May 8, 1915, on a farm north of Murdock, MN, the son of Olof and Anna (Anderson) Olson. His father immigrated to the United States from Sweden at the age of 20 and landed on Ellis Island in 1895. His mother came from Sweden to the US with her parents at the age of three. They were founding members of Bethesda Lutheran Church and farmed north of Murdock until their deaths. After eight grades of school in Murdock, Earl enrolled in the West Central School of Agriculture, Morris, MN, graduating in 1932. On September 17, 1938, he was untied in marriage to Dorothy Erickson in North Dakota.

Earl was the founder of the Jennie-O Turkey Store and served as President and Chief Executive Office until 1974 when he became Chairman of the Board. He was Chairman Emeritus at the time of his death. Mention Earl Olson anywhere in the United States turkey industry and it will be immediately recognized. Minnesota was not a significant turkey state when Earl entered the turkey procession industry in 1949 at Willmar. Today, Jennie-O Turkey Store is the largest turkey company in the world and Minnesota is the largest turkey producing state in the U.S. Earl was a mainstay and pillar of support for an industry close to his heart. He was concerned for all people in the turkey industry, including those who cared for turkeys on the farms to company presidents. Earl always had time to talk and listen. His actions gained him the confidence and trust of the industry at state and national levels. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Jennie-O Turkey Store and past Director of the International Trade Development Board, National Turkey Federation, Hormel Foods, Poultry and Egg Institute of America, Minnesota Poultry and Egg Association, Past President and Director of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association and National Poultry and Egg Association.

Earl’s remarkable concern for the progress was an important part of his private, community and church life. He always found time to extend personal help and advice to people in need and was quietly generous to churches, colleges, community projects, Concordia College of Moorhead, MN and Luther Seminary of St. Paul, MN. Earl was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar, where he served on various committees and was instrumental in the building of the present church. He also was the driving force behind the YMCA in Willmar. He was past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bremer Bank, Willmar, past Regent of Concordia College and past Director of Boy Scouts of America Viking Council, Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, and Camp Courage Society for Crippled Children, Willmar Community Golf Club, Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the YMCA.

He received many awards during his lifetime including the WCCO Good Neighbor Award, The Sliver Beaver Award from Boy Scouts of America Viking Council, Minnesota Business Hall of Fame, The Siehl Prize for Excellence in Agriculture from the University of Minnesota, Minnesota Swede of the Year, Gustavus Adolphus Honorary Doctorate and the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award established by the Kandiyohi County Economic Development Partnership.

He is survived by his children, Charles (and Sharon) Olson; Jeffry (and Pat) Olson; Bruce (and Carolyn) Olson, all of Spicer; Jennifer (and Jay) Novak of Medina, MN; Michael Olson of Bemidji,MN; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and brother, LeVerne Olson of Murdock, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, granddaughter, Carrie and sister, Miriam Swenson.

John Henry Sweep, 91, of Clara City, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Clara City Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 pm at Harvey Anderson Clara City Funeral Home in Clara City and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

John Henry was born on December 24, 1914, in Holland Township, Kandiyohi County, near Prinsburg, MN, the son of Henry and Anna (Frikke) Sweep. He was baptized at Bunde Christian Reformed Church. He grew up in Rheiderland Township and attended District 70 for his schooling. On December 1, 1937, he was united in marriage to Margaret Grace Aalfs in Stoneham Township. As a young man, he worked for several farmers in the area and also at Kray’s Texaco. In 1947, Jack and Margaret moved to a farm west of Clara City and lived there until 1979 when they retired and moved to their home in Clara City. He took care of his wife for many years at the Clara City Care Center and he became a resident there on July 27, 2001.

John was a member of Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. He served on the Consistory as an Elder and was Vice President and Deacon and he also served on the Community Haus Board. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed visiting with other residents of the Care Center, playing cards and playing his harmonica for them. He enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his son, Roger (and Susan) Sweep of Clara City; daughter, Bonnie (and Jim) Miller of Renville; five grandchildren, Troy (and Janet) Sweep, Chad (and Sue) Sweep, Shaun (and Sherri) Sweep, Holly (and Kyle) Lucke, Heather (and Mike) Fox; 12 great grandchildren, Allison, Alex, Mandi, Maggie, Justin, Katherine, Claire, Krista, John, Jacob, Emma and Tyler. He is also survived by brothers, Alvin Sweep of Kerkhoven, Theodore Sweep of Clarissa and Verlin Sweep of Willmar and sister-in-law, Leola Sweep of Willmar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margaret in October of 1998, an infant son, Allen, brothers, Henry, Joe, Harley, Lee and sisters, Irene Barney and Sadie Radunz.

Paul E. Adams, age 85 of Spicer died Saturday morning, December 9, 2006, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 on Tuesday at the Harrison Community Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be at the Spicer City Cemetery in Spicer. Military honors will be provided by the Spicer American Legion Henderson Lewis Post #545.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Harrison Community Presbyterian Church, and continue one hour prior to the service.
Paul Edwin Adams was born on December 22, 1920, the son of Gustav and Emma (Widmark) Adams, in the Colfax Township. He attended District 92 country school in the Irving Township. After school he farmed until he served his country in World War II. On February 24, 1950, Paul was united in marriage to Mavis Paetznick at the Evangelical Church in Paynesville. To this union two children were born. Paul and Mavis moved to the family farm in the Harrison Township, where Paul farmed until 1989 when he retired. Mavis died in 1990, together they shared in 40 years of marriage.
Paul was a member of the Harrison Community Presbyterian Church. He served on the church board for a number of years, and was a church elder. Paul also served on the Harrison Township Board, and was a member of the Spicer American Legion Henderson Lewis Post #545. Paul enjoyed farming, gardening, lawn care, and watching wildlife.
Paul E. Adams, of Spicer, died Saturday morning, December 9, 2006, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 85. He is survived by his children, Larry Adams of Grove City, and Judy (Jim) Nelson of Kandiyohi; 4 grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth Adams of Grove City, and Mae Amundson of Cokato; special friend Alice Kesselring; and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mavis; and siblings, Ellen, Peter, Mary, George, Philip, and Edgar.

Louise E. Friese, age 96, of Brooten, died Sunday night, December 3, 2006 at the Glenwood Retirement Villa, in Glenwood.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Big Grove Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, where there will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue on Thursday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Louise Emma Friese was born on February 12, 1910 on the family farm in Erie Township of Becker County, the second child of Frank and Wilhelmine "Minnie" Langer. She was baptized on April 24, 1910 and confirmed in the Christian faith on June 1, 1924, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She grew up on the family farm and attended the Erie Township Grade School. After her schooling she began helping out neighbors, friends and family in the area with housework, milking cows, haying and other odd jobs. She often took care of her cousins while their mothers were sick or caring for babies. On November 1, 1933, Lou was united in marriage to Albert O. Friese on the Langer family farm. To this union four daughters and two sons were born.
They made their home in Detroit Lakes until moving to Brooten. They farmed until 1957 when they purchased the Kitchen Café in Brooten. They retired in 1967 and moved into their home in Brooten. Together they were able to share in 53 years of marriage before Albert's death on March 19, 1986. Lou continued to live in her home until 1993 when she moved into her daughter, Zona's home. She moved to Glenwood Retirement Villa in April of this year. Lou enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, flowers, quilting, crocheting,sewing, camping, fishing, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was always willing to share her many talents with her family and friends. Lou died on Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2006 at the Glenwood Retirement Villa at the age of 96. She is survived by her children, Zona (Erling) Baalson of Brooten, Courtney (Clara) Friese of Redwood Falls, Marlin "Boots"
(Betty) Friese of Barrett, Ann Henze of Alliance, NE, Kay (Jack) Brock of Alliance, NE and Lorna (John) Dierks of Sauk Centre; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, 1 sister and a
grandson, John Edward Brock III.
Richard “Dick” “Tulie” Miller, age 76, of New London, died on Tuesday evening December 5, 2006, at Rice Care Center in Willmar. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, December 8, 2006 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.
A reviewal will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the memorial service.
Richard J. “Tulie” Miller was born on June 11, 1930, the son of Julius and Clara (Anderson) Miller. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London. Tulie attended New London Elementary School and graduated from New London High School in 1948. On June 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty Lou Carstens, at Zion Lutheran Church in Belgrade. To this union seven children were born. The family made their home in New London where he worked at Sears in Willmar until 1969, when he became the manager at Westburne Plumbing and Heating Supply in Willmar, where he worked until his retirement in 1987.
Tulie was very active in the community during his life. He was on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council, president and charter member of the Little Crow Country Club, and a charter member of the New London Hunting Club. He was also a member of the New London and Willmar Fire Departments, Ducks Unlimited, Willmar Elks Club, Willmar Lions Club, New London Commercial Club, Isaac Walton Club, and New London Bowling League.
Richard “Dick” “Tulie” Miller died on Tuesday evening, December 5, 2006, at Rice Care Center in Willmar at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Miller; children, Mona (Stephen) Tait of Spicer, Dana (Fran) Miller of New London, Jeffrey (Jane) Miller of Willmar, Kevin (Joy) Miller of Plymouth, Colleen (Robert) Ostergaard of Ellicot City, Maryland, and Carrie (Wayne) Nelson of Brainerd; 13 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; and siblings, Marion Dalhberg, of New London, Howard Miller of Farmington, and Jerome Miller of New London.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, and brother and sister.

Marvis I. Hendrickson, age 86 of Willmar, died on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Friday, December 8, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Marvis I. Hendrickson was born on September 11, 1920 in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Hulda and Carl Struckness. She grew up in the Willmar area and graduated from Willmar High School in the class of 1938. She attended business college receiving a degree in 1942. She was united in marriage to Orville W. Hendrickson on October 5, 1946 in Willmar. The couple lived in Willmar where Marvis worked as a bookkeeper at Quinn Implement in Willmar for 17 years. She was also employed at the West Central Tribune newspaper in Willmar where she was the society editor. The couple also delivered news papers for the West Central Tribune.
Marvis was a member with the United Methodist Church in Willmar and had been active as a Sunday school teacher, president of the women's' society, circle, and sang in the church choir. She was an active republican and served as an election judge, she also served on the United Way Board. She and Orville where active with Senior Citizens and Son's of Norway.
Marvis and Orville enjoyed traveling, and camping visiting 44 states and Canada. She also enjoyed crafts, crocheting, knitting, and sewing.
Marvis entered the Rice Care Center in Willmar in 2002. On Wednesday, December 6, 2006 Marvis died at age of 86 years.
She is survived by her son David of New London, grandson, James; brother-in-laws: Elroy (Betty) Hendrickson of Brooklyn Center, Kenneth
(Sally) Hendrickson of St. Paul, sister-in-law Better Gamber of Watertown South Dakota; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Marvis was preceded in death by he parents and husband.
LaVonne Olson, age 68 of New London formerly of New Prague, died Thursday evening December 7, 2006 at her home in rural New London.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 12th, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be in Louriston Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Murdock.
Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Margaret LaVonne Olson (Swanson) was born on January 22, 1938 in Louriston Township of Chippewa County, the daughter of Lloyd and Bertha (Magnuson) Swanson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Louriston Township. She grew up in Lourston Township and attended high school in Maynard, graduating in 1956. On January 5, 1957, LaVonne was united in marriage to David W. Olson at Zion Lutheran Church. To this union two daughters and one son were born. They made their home in New Prague, where she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years. She retired in 1994 and moved to rural New London, near Long Lake in 1998.
LaVonne is a member of Peace Lutheran Church in New London and the New London American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed visiting and meeting people, gardening, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, bird watching, bowling, cooking and spending time with her family.
LaVonne died on Thursday afternoon, December 7, 2006 at her home near New London with her family at her side at the age of 68. She is survived by her husband, David of New London; children, JulieVon Kenyon of St. Cloud, Brett (Judy) Olson of New Prague and LeAnn Olson of Willmar; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Bert (Ruby) Baldwin of Seattle, WA, and Virgil (Marlene) Swanson of New London.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ken, Hartley and Dale.
Clinton W. Glembin, age 91 of Kerkhoven, died Friday afternoon, December 8, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Memorial services will be 10:30 Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be at Telemarken Church Cemetery in Wallace, South Dakota. Clinton Walfred Glembin was born November 17, 1915, at Kerkhoven, MN, the son of Childs and Martina (Johnson) Glembin. He grew up in the Kerkhoven area as well as in South Dakota. He worked in the CC camps and WPA as a young man. He also worked in California for a florist building Rose Bowl Parade floats and picked apples in Washington.

He married Selma Thompson on September 19, 1940. To this union 2 sons and 1 daughter were born. Clinton farmed for several years, and then worked as a mechanic for farm implement dealers. He retired from the Swift County Highway Department. Selma preceded him in death, August 23, 1996.

He married Carol (Anderson) Hanson on September 6, 1997. Clinton was a member of Kerkhoven Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, automobiles and spending time with his family.

Clint is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Clifford (and Judith) Glembin of Watertown, SD; Cordelia (nad Robert) Kotek of New Brighton; Wayne (and Deb) Glembin of Tallahassee, Fl.; stepchildren, Ann Hanson of Kerkhoven, Kenneth (and Anne) Hanson of St. Joseph, Yvonne (and Bob Guck) of St. Cloud, Thomas Hanson of Minneapolis and Sheila Hanson of Minneapolis, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Chester, and Selma (Thompson) Glembin.

Danny K. Henjum, 58, of Eagan, died Monday, December 4, 2006 at University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 pm at Henry W. Anderson Funeral Home in Apple Valley and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Danny was born on August 27, 1948 in Benson, MN, the son of Arthur Orville (and Adele) Henjum. He grew up in Kerkhoven and graduated from Kerkhoven High School. He continued his education at St. Cloud State University, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. On June 19, 1971, he was united in marriage to Beverly Cooper at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Following their marriage, they lived in Richfield and since 1974, they have lived in Eagan. He had worked for many years as operations manager for Naegele Outdoor Advertising.

Besides watching sports, he’s enjoyed playing softball and bowling. Danny also enjoyed spending time outdoors, pheasant, deer and duck hunting, even wishing that he could have gone again this year. Most of all, he cherished and loved the times he was able to spend with his friends, family and especially his granddaughter, Mia.

Surviving are his wife, Bev of Eagan; children, Nichole (and Reshard) Saulter of Harker Heights, TX; Andy and Brian Henjum both of Eagan; granddaughter, Mia Saulter; sisters and brothers, Jackie (and Clarke) Damon of Douglas, AK; Vicky Henjum of Juneau, AK; Sonny (and Miko) Henjum of Burnsville and Galen (and Bev) Henjum of Kerkhoven. Also surviving is special cousin, almost a sister, Chris (and Larry) Kosmicki of Burnsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shannon, in infancy.

Lois A. Smith, 85, of Willmar died Friday at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar. A memorial service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at Bethesda Pleasantview Chapel in Willmar. Burial will be at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Lois has bequested her body to the University of Minnesota Medical School. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

On January 3, 1921, Lois was the third born child to John and Cora (Tone) Schansberg of the small Norwegian community of Spring Grove, Minnesota in the Bluff country of the southeastern corner of the state. She had one brother and two sisters. Her father was a butcher and her mother was a homemaker accomplished in cooking, sewing and needle work. She remembers growing up there, playing with friends, sliding down hills in the snow and feeling fresh warm tar squish between her toes, which her mother had the pleasure of scrubbing off her. She was as an accomplished pianist and accompanied the Spring Grove Choir in concert at Northrup Auditorium. She graduated from high school in 1939 and then went on to three years of nurses training at St. Andrew’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Her nursing career began at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. A short time later when WWII started and nurses were in need, she enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps serving 29 months with the 117th Station Hospital stationed in the South Pacific (New Guinea and the Philippines.) She also spent time in Australia and has many pictures of wallabies, kangaroos and koala bears. On the long voyage there on the hospital ship, Hope she learned to knit and became a very talented knitter. She remembers being grabbed by a GI and pulled into a ditch as an enemy plane buzzed overhead; having to check inside her boots each time she put them on, discovering that rats had run off with missing undergarments, playing pranks on other nurses and mud, mud, mud. She also remembers giving some of her clothing to the surviving nurses returning from a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp at Corregidor, and recalled feeling “there but for the grace of God go I.” Following the end of the war Lois returned home and worked in Minneapolis at Sister Kenny Institute during the polio epidemic, at General Hospital. Lois has enjoyed attending annual reunions of her army buddies in Chicago. In 1948, Lois was united in marriage to Harold J. Smith at Fort Snelling Chapel. Following their marriage they moved to Willmar. Lois worked as Nursing Supervisor at Willmar State Hospital and did so for the next 30 years until she retired in 1983. Lois also took care of her father for a number of years as he came to live with her family in Willmar. Following her retirement, she began traveling with friends to other countries including Australia, England, Norway as well as Hawaii, Alaska and around the continental United States. In all she attended over twenty five elder hostel trips. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, her daughters and their husbands, her two grandchildren and her extended family. (She has not been as enthusiastic about the grand pets which have included three dogs, a cat, two rabbits and numerous fish.)

Surviving are her daughters, Barbara (and Alan) Miller of Brooklyn Park and Diana Schansberg (and Steve Bucholz) of Otsego; two grandchildren, Krista Miller of Philadelphia, PA and Andy Miller of Fairbanks, AK. Also surviving is her sister, Ruth Daniels of Rochester Hills, MI; her brother-in-law, Arie Gaalswyk of Slayton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Corolyn Gaalswyk, and brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Catharina Schansberg.

Clinton J. Ness, 22, of Paynesville died Monday, November 27, 2006, in Paynesville. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 – 8 pm on Friday, December 1, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Clinton Joseph Ness was born on May 15, 1984, in Paynesville the son of Joseph and Diane (Otte) Ness. Clint was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Paynesville Lutheran Church. He attended Paynesville Elementary and graduated from Paynesville High School in 2003. Clint worked at H & L Express, Cenex, and Fingerhut Trucking.

Clint’s greatest love was music. He started the band Whiteout, playing guitar and drums. He was a very talented artist, drawing many things he loved. Clint also enjoyed boating and sailing; and was an expert at video games and with computers. Clint was loved by all that knew him.

Surviving are his parents, Joe and Diane Ness of Paynesville; brothers, Jeremy Boelz-Ness of St. Joseph and Jason Ness of Paynesville; sister, Kimberly Wielenberg of Paynesville; and his grandfather, Joseph B. Otte of Melrose.

Agnes M. Mair (Odland, Thorson) age 79 of Willmar, formerly of Sunburg and Glenwood died Monday at Cynthia’s Place Private Care Home in Spicer. Funeral Services will be 11:00 Friday at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade, with Rev. Michael DeKraai officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service.
Agnes “Aggie” M. Mair was born on December 4, 1926 in Belgrade, the daughter of Adolph and Millie (Anderson) Odland. Aggie received her elementary education at a small country school in rural Belgrade, and then graduated from Belgrade High School. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Crow River Lutheran Church and has been a life long member there. On October 12, 1945 Aggie was married to Alvord Thorson at her family farm. Three children where born to this union. The family lived in Sunburg until 1961 when they moved to Glenwood. Aggie lived in Glenwood until 1972 when she moved to Morris where she worked for the University of Minnesota at Morris. In 1975 she moved to Willmar, where she met and fell in love with William “Bill” Mair. The couple where united in marriage on July 3, 1981. Bill died in October of this year, together they shared in 25 years of marriage.
Aggie was a member of Crow River Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Women of the Lutheran Church of America, and the Joy Circle there. She also was a member of the Willmar VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Willmar American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Aggie enjoyed Quilting, Dancing, Gardening, and music, but her greatest joy was her family which adored her greatly.

Collette Marie Ennenga, 49, of Willmar, died Sunday, November 26, 2006 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, November 30, 2006 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Collette Marie was born on September 3, 1957, the daughter of Delmar and Louise (Feifarek) Ennenga. She grew up in Willmar, having been baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School. Following her graduation, she bartended for a number of years and for the past 19 years she was working at Gurley’s Foods in Willmar. She was united in marriage to Terry Schorn at Calvary Lutheran Church.

She was an auxiliary member of VFW Post #1639 and American Legion Post #167. She enjoyed NASCAR, cooking and fishing. She really enjoyed her cats, of which at one time or another she was feeding up to 20 stray cats.

Surviving are her mother, Louise of Willmar; sister, Cheryl Williams of Willmar; nephew, Steve (and Heidi) Ennenga; niece Karla (and special friend, Ken Meyer) Williams; great-niece and nephews, Jeremy, Koby and Samantha; also surviving is her special friend, James D. Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Lois Winnifred Dahlen, 84, of Willmar, died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Northridge Care Center in New Hope. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, December 1, 2006 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.

Lois was born on June 21, 1922, in St. Paul, MN. She was the daughter of John and Emma (Hamre) Jordahl. She grew up in Thief River Falls. After graduating from high school in 1940, Lois attended Normal Training (teacher training) in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1942. She taught school in rural Fergus Falls and later worked in banks in Minneapolis and Thief River Falls.

On August 29, 1945, she was united in marriage to Olaf Dahlen. They lived in Thief River Falls until 1962 when they moved to Willmar, where Olaf began teaching at the area vocational school.

Lois was very active in church, community organizations and social groups in Thief River Falls and Willmar. She belonged to the Sons of Norway, Kandiyohi Historical Society, and four Norwegian lags. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She volunteered at the West Central Workshop for several years. She loved to cook and entertain, as well as help people in need. Lois had many interests in her life, especially a social group she organized just for fun. Lois named this group the, “Lois Club.” This was a delight for her! Her most important role was being a stay-at-home mom, lovingly raising their three children.

Surviving are her husband, Olaf; son, Michael (and Linda) Dahlen of Blaine, MN; daughters, Patricia (and David) Lundstrom of Sioux Falls, SD; Rebecca (and Gerald) Tischer of Frederic, WI; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and cousins in Minnesota, North Dakota and Lillehammer, Norway.

Preceding her in death were her parents, infant daughter, Mary Lynn and great granddaughter, Chelsea Lynn.

John J. “Jack” Hoeper 52, of rural Kandiyohi. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Friday at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Kandiyohi with interment in the church cemetery. Jack was born October 12, 1954, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the son of John Joseph and Anna Mae (Hoefer) Hoeper. Their family lived in Battle Lake, Litchfield and Darwin. Jack attended Litchfield Public Schools. He continued his education for boiler schooling at Ridgewater College, graduating in March 1, 1999.

On November 22, 19809, Jack was united in marriage to Kim Bengtson at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children. They lived in Cosmos, rural Atwater, and Lake Lillian prior to moving to rural Kandiyohi in 1982. Jack worked as a Millwright and Construction for Farm Service Elevator and Paul Wachtler Construction.

He helped coach youth wrestling for Atwater schools.

Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving is his loving wife of 26 years, Kim; children, Amber Dawn Hoeper, Joseph Curtis Hoeper, Adam Blake Hoeper and John Fredrick Hoeper, all of Kandiyohi. Also surviving is his mother Anna Mae Green Kandiyohi; sister, Judy McClain, Buffalo and brother, Paul Hoeper, Darwin; 11 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews and goddaughter, Jasmine Nieto.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Hoeper; step father, Marvin Green and his father-in- law Fredrick Bengtson.

Bill Geer, age 73 of Rothsay, formerly of New London, died Friday afternoon, November 24, 2006 at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis.
Memorial Services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be held at Colfax Cemetery in rural New London.
Bill Dale Geer was born on January 10, 1933 on the family farm in Burbank Township, the son of Frank and Lois (Nelson) Geer. He grew up in rural New London and attended school in District #25. In 1954 he entered the United States Army where he served his during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and returned home. On April 23, 1958, Bill was united in marriage to Jeanette Dahlberg. To this union two daughters and one son were born. They made their home, where Bill worked in construction and enjoyed driving bus throughout his career. They moved to Rothsay a few years ago, where they enjoyed retirement together.
Bill was a member Living Water Assembly of God in Pelican Rapids and Assembly of God Church in Willmar. He was also a member of the New London American Legion. He enjoyed camping with his family, playing horseshoes and pool, automobiles and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bill died on Friday afternoon, November 24, 2006 at Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children, Julie (Bret) Lindsay of Rothsay, Dale (Jennifer) Geer of Elko and Laurie (Steven) Seay of Waconia; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Hugh (Annette) Geer of New London, Charles (Marilyn) Geer of New London, George (Janice) Geer of Brooten, Jim (Celeste) Geer of Payson, AZ; sister, Gene (Charles) Nesselhaus of Queen Creek, AZ ; sister-in-law, Helen Geer of New London; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by parents, and brothers Robert, Welcome and Paul.
Elvera Dorothy Larson, 89, of Willmar, died on Monday November 20, 2006, at Bethesda Heritage Center. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday at Assembly of God with interment at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Willmar. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 pm Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Elvera Dorothy was born on January 29, 1917, in Whitefield Twp., Kandiyohi Co., the daughter of Edward and Anna (Anderstrom) Zupke. She grew up in the Svea area and attended District #68 for her schooling.

On February 21, 1945, Elvera was united in marriage to Carl J. Larson at Willmar, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed in rural Willmar. They retired in 1975 and moved into Willmar. Carl preceded her in death on November 3, 2005. Elvera had been a resident at Bethesda Heritage since December, 2003.

She was baptized and confirmed at Svea and was a member of Assembly of God at the time of her death. She had been active with Ladies Aid, Seniors Club, Prayer and Share, and Adult Bible Study.

Elvera had served on District #109 Community Club as a officer and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are her children, Larry (and Mary) Larson, Willmar, Robert (and Linda) Larson, Willmar, James (and Sharyle) Larson, Orofina, ID, Diane (and Bill) Schlagel, Murdock, Dennis (and Ann) Larson, Willmar, Carl Larson, Jr. Willmar, and Donna (and Tim) Underland, Spicer; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Delores Gundberg, Tempe, AZ, and Vernon Zupke, Harrisburg, PA.

In addition to her husband, Elvera was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and granddaughter Tina Lynn.

Dorothy Jean Kleven, 80, of Willmar, died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services.

Dorothy was born on March 15, 1926, in Willmar, MN, the daughter of William and Ruth (Anderson) Robertson. She attended Willmar Public Schools and graduated in 1944. Following graduation, she worked for Woolworth Dime Store in Willmar and for a year in Minneapolis. On August 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Charles Kleven in Willmar. Following their marriage, they lived in Willmar and Dorothy worked as a cook for Willmar Public Schools for many years before retiring.

She was a member of United Methodist Church. Her interests and hobbies included baking, crossword puzzles and collecting recipes. She also enjoyed traveling, going out to eat and was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. Most of all, she cherished the time she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary (Lorenzo) Harris of Willmar; sons, Stanley Kleven of Spicer and Donald Kleven of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Angela (and Mark) Fredericks, Amy (and Josh) Goolsbee and Adam Kleven; two great grandchildren, Cooper and Emma Fredericks; her sisters, Phyllis (and Bob) Allen of Spicer and Joyce Davidson of Safety Harbor, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles on September 8, 1980, brothers, James and Kenneth and sister, Eleanor Penn.

Gerald M. Behrends, 71, of Willmar, died Saturday, November 18, 2006 near Willmar following an automobile accident. Gerald was born on October 24, 1935 in Holland Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of Martin and Rose (Schoen) Behrends. He graduated from Clara City High School in 1953 and worked with his dad on the farm. He served in the United States Army and upon his discharge he returned to the farm. He was united in marriage to Helen Diederich on June 26, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. He received diesel mechanics training from Willmar Vo-Tech, graduating in 1971. He worked from many years at Nelson International, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of Church of St. Mary in Willmar where he was active with the Knight’s of Columbus. You could always find him helping, repairing and taking care of things around the church grounds. Gerald was a do it yourselfer. Whether he was fixing something, making something, doing yard work, or finding a solution to a problem, he wanted to do the best that he could. He was a generous man who would do anything for anyone and especially enjoyed teaching kids on how to use their hands and tools. He also was a committed volunteer at the Kandiyohi County Historical Society, working there weekly.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; son, Peter (and Kim Lind) Behrends of Sartell; daughter, Sara (and Owen) Waterman of Hopkins; six grandchildren, Nick, Laura, Marie and Andrew Lind-Behrends, Trey and Sophia Waterman; sister, LaVonne (and Ronald) Hanen of Montevideo and brother, Earl (and Donna) Behrends of Willmar. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary Kaye Gordon of Willmar; Donna (and Lynn) Torgerson of Colorado; Beverly Diederich of Colorado; Louise Miller of Colorado; Susan (and Rich) Maynard of Rosemount; Tom (and Mary) Diederich of Willmar and Dave (and Karen) Diederich of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Selmer J. Sletten, 95, of Willmar, died Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church and arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home of Willmar.

Selmer was united in marriage to Alma Johnson on January 18, 1935 in Willmar. He had started working for the Great Northern Railroad on August 1, 1943 and continued there until his retirement. He started as a file clerk and later held various office positions including that of trainmaster’s clerk and at the time of his retirement he was a timekeeper-accountant for the Dakota Division of the train and engine service for the Burlington-Northern.

He was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway, Brotherhood of Railway Clerks holding all the elective offices in the local unit, including presidency. He served, for 12 years, as treasurer of the Willmar Labor Home and on the Rice Hospital Board of Directors. Selmer was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church where he was active on various committees throughout the years.

After retirement, Selmer and Alma enjoyed traveling, camping and spending winters in Arizona with friends. He especially enjoyed trips to Norway to visit family and explore his Norwegian heritage, of which he was extremely proud of. Another highlight for Selmer was the yearly fall trips he took to visit his daughter and family in North Carolina, where he enjoyed ocean fishing. Selmer and Alma moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in December of 2001 and then into Bethesda Heritage Center in March of 2002.

Surviving are his children, Gerald (and Norma) Sletten of Marshall; Gail (and John) Robertson of Vilas, NC: five grandchildren, Sonja (and Troy) Balken, Laura (and Kyle) Kuhnke, Eric (and Lori) Robertson, Jennie (and Phil) Crews and Jon Robertson; five great-grandchildren, Ellie and Brenna Balken, Rachael and Michael Robertson and Brandon Kuhnke and sisters, Marie Carlson of Willmar; Agnes Carlson of Chaska and Bernyce Demko of Edina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alma, and sister, Helen Webster.

 

Gusta E. Sonstegard age 97 of Belgrade, died Monday evening, November 13, 2006 at the Belgrade Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Crow River Luthean Church in rural Belgrade. Burial will be in the Chruch Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.
Gusta Eleanora Thorson Sonstegard was born September 25, 1909 to Anton and Inga (Lueken) Thorson in Kandiyohi County near Willmar. She was baptized and confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. She attended the Golden Rod School (District 44) and the West Central School of Agriculture at Morris.
On May 4, 1941 she married Archie Melvin Sonstegard at Crow River Lutheran Church near Belgrade. They lived a number of years in Minneapolis and New London before moving back to Belgrade.
She taught Sunday School at both Vinje Lutheran and Crow River Lutheran Churches. She was a member of the church women E.L.C.W. and also served on the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Golden Rod 4-H Club and served as a leader of the North Star 4-H Club.
Gusta died on November 13, 2006, at the age of 97 years, at the Belgrade Nursing Home of a stroke.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Diane) of Howard Lake, Minnesota and Arvid (Cathy) of Kissimmee, Florida. Also surviving are four grandchildren (Gail Boehne, Mark Sonstegard, Keith Sonstegard and Adam Sonstegard), three step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one step great grandchild. She is also survived by three sisters, Anna Corgard of Blaine, Madeline Kosander of Minneapolis, Viola (Curtis) Town of Minneapolis and one brother Rueben (Rita) Thorson of Plainfield, Illinois. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Melvin), a daughter (Inez), a grandson (Kenneth), her parents (Anton and Inga), three brothers (Axel, Edmund and Leonard) and three sisters (Agnes, Harriet and Alice).
Ardell E. Nelson, 89 of Murdock, died on Monday November 13, 2006, at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 18, 2006, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, rural Murdock. Friends may call on Friday from 5 until 7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home Kerkhoven Chapel and on Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Ardell Edmyrth Nelson was born on June 24, 1917, in Camp Lake Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the son of Edgar and Myrtle (Johnson) Nelson. His mother died when he was 11 years old and his father died when he was 14. Ardell lived with his grandfather, Edwin Johnson and other family.

He attended Swift County District 17 and later attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.

He was baptized and confirmed at Frank Lake Covenant Church and was a member of Bethesda Lutheran at the time of his death.

On June 8, 1941, Ardell was united in marriage to Georgine Johnson, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children. They farmed north of Murdock until 1946 when he worked for Nelson Construction in Willmar, and owned and operated a store and delicatessen. In 1951, they moved back to the Kerkhoven area where they farmed. While farming, he continued to do concrete work where he specialized in decorative stone work and repairing chimneys. Ardell also worked for several years as assistant to the Country Assessor in Benson. He also drove school bus for Rustad’s Bus for many years.

Ardell enjoyed family and visiting with friends and strangers. He liked sitting in his recliner reading the Bible. He enjoyed music and had been a soloist at many events. He loved building with Kasota stone, building many fireplaces and other projects. Ardell like watching new-born calves and he and enjoyed coming to the farm at harvest-time, his last time was two weeks ago. He kept a strong interest in world affairs and liked political discussions. His family especially remembers him as a loving and caring husband.

Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Georgine; children, Carol (and Gary) Wehrer of Murdock; Karen (and Stephen) Jensen of Owatonna; Carlton (and Marsha) Nelson of Kerkhoven; and James Nelson of Murdock; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Oliver A. Theel, age 94 of Litchfield, formerly of Paynesville, died Saturday morning, November 11, 2006 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Crystal Hills Assembly of God in Paynesville. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in rural Paynesville.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Oliver Ansel Theel was born on January 11, 1912 on the family farm north of Paynesville, the son of Otto and Alvina (Pautzke) Theel. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Harding grade school in District #2028. After his schooling he began farming with his family on the farm five miles north of Paynesville. On December 7, 1958, Oliver was united in marriage to Carol Joy Gruetzmacher. To this union three daughters and one son were born. They made their home on the family farm and continued to farm until Oliver’s retirement in 1973. He continued working various jobs in the area. Together Oliver and Carol were able to share in 26 years of marriage before Carol’s death on June 18, 1985.
In May of 1987, Oliver was united in marriage to Elva Norris. Together they made their home in Litchfield where they enjoyed retirement together. Among there favorite pastimes together were traveling, making crafts and woodworking. Together they were able to share in 19 years of marriage.
Oliver also enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, visiting with people and spending time with family. He was known for his great stories, sense of humor and willingness to invest in anyone needing him.
He is survived by wife, Elva of Litchfield; children, Janice (Dave) Lundstrom of Pillager, David Theel of Paynesville, Charlyn (Jeff) Post of Burnsville and Kathy Theel of Maple Grove; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan and Charles Lundstrom, Bradley, Ashley, Courtney and Spencer Post; great-granddaughter, Janae Woodworth; 4 step-children, Carl (Judy) Norris of Sauk Centre, Linda (Bob) Davis of FL, Shirley (Dave) Capistrant of Grove City and Beverly Norris of Grove City; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Oliver was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol; grandson, Cody Theel; sister Rosella Glenz and parents.
Robert Goodenbour, age 83 of Brooten, died Tuesday morning, November 7, 2006 at Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten and for one hour prior to the services.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.

Robert Eugene Goodenbour was born on December 11, 1922 in rural Brooten, the son of Nick and Amelia (Pierce) Goodenbour. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. He grew up in Brooten where he attended Brooten High School, graduating in the class of 1941. On January 28, 1943 he entered the United States Army, where he served his country during WW II in the European Theatre. He returned home on December 21, 1945 and worked various jobs in the area. On March 9, 1957, Robert was united in marriage to Rosella E. Nelson. To this union two sons were born. They made their home in Benson before moving to Shakopee and later St. Louis Park, where Robert worked for the Johnson Nut Company. He retired in 1987 and moved back to the area to enjoy retirement, spend time with grandchildren and help on his son’s farm. Together they were able to share in 36 years of marriage before Rosella’s death on November 11, 1993.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing many types of sports as a young man and watching them with his grandsons in his later years. He also enjoyed driving the four-wheeler around and visiting with his neighbor’s .

He is survived by his two sons, Richard (Rachel) Goodenbour of Elkart, IN and Bradley (Renee) Goodenbour of Brooten; four grandsons, Joel, Brandon, Bryce, and Brent; and sister, Olive Thorson of Nebraska.

Robert was preceded in death by wife, Rosella; brothers, Layton and Alvin; and sisters, Blanche Nelson and Muriel Buchholz.

Kenneth E. Lundquist, 92, of Willmar, died Monday, November 6, 2006 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, November 10, 2006 at Willmar Assemblies of God Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Kenneth Edward Dunbar Lundquist was born on May 25, 1914, in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Anna (Engman) Lundquist. He graduated from Willmar High School at the age of 16 in 1930 and continued his education at Minneapolis School of Business, graduating in 1931. He returned home and farmed with his parents. On July 11, 1937, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Carlson at Svea. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in Fahlun Township until 1971 when they moved to Eagle Lake. At this time, he entered the real-estate business and became associated with Lundquist Agency. He retired in 1989 and moved into Willmar. For the past 15 months, Kenneth and Marjorie have been residents of Bethesda Heritage.

He was an active member of Assemblies of God where he served as deacon and was active with teaching and music. He was also a member of the Willmar Camp of Gideons.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; children, Joel (and Linda) Lundquist of Burnsville; Jim (and Eileen) Lundquist of Willmar; Janet (and Rev. Victor) Hedman of Madrid, Spain; Ellen (and Dr. Steven) Shelver of Spicer; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and his sisters, Constance Elrod of Austin and Alice Mae Williams Springfield, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kermit R. Holmgren, age 100 of Willmar formerly of Pennock, died Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Friday, November 10, 2006 at Salem Covenant Church in rural Pennock. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Kermit R. Holmgren was born on July 21, 1906, in Pennock, Minnesota, the son of Otto and Emma (Nelson) Holmgren. He grew up in Mamre Township and attended District 15 North country school. He farmed with his parents and brother Vernon in Mamre Township and also did trucking. In 1938, he moved to Pennock and opened a blacksmith shop. On March 4, 1943, Kermit was united in marriage to Gladyce (Johnson), at Salem Covenant Church in rural Pennock. The couple lived in Pennock and were blessed with two daughters. Gladys passed away in 1963.

On October 29, 1965, Kermit was united in marriage to Pearl (Nelson) Stier. Kermit retired in 1973. They continued to live in Pennock until 1981, when they moved to Willmar and in 1999, they entered Sunrise Village Assisted Living. Pearl passed away on March 18, 2001.

Kermit was a life member of Salem Covenant Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was very active in the church and served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Kermit was also active in the Pennock community where he served as Mayor, Fire Chief, and School Board Member. He also volunteered with the Kandiyohi County Historical Society, and was Grand Marshall of the parade this past year for Pennock Days.

Kermit enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, and was a prolific writer.

He is survived by his daughters: Arlene (Orrian) Syverson of Willmar, Marian (Stan) Ecklund of Cupertino, CA; and five grandchildren. He was delighted to enlarge his family with his marriage to Pearl, with five children and a host of grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his wives, Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Vernon, sisters, Ruth and Eunice, and one grandson.

Martin O. Sakariason age 95, of New London died on Sunday evening, Nov. 5, 2006 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2006 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Martin Oscar Sakariason was born on May 9, 1911 on the family farm in Lake Andrew Township, the son of Anders and Marianna (Nelson) Sakariason. He was baptized on April 3, 1912 and confirmed in the Christian faith at Lebanon Lutheran Church. He grew up in rural New London and attended grade school in District 8. After his schooling, he worked as a farm hand in the area before entering the United States Army in 1941, where he served his country during WW II and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was discharged in 1945 and returned back home where he began farming east of Sunburg. On September 3, 1964, Martin was united in marriage to LaVerne Larson Gustafson. In 1972 they moved to their retirement home on the south shore of Lake Andrew. Due to health concerns they moved to the village apartments at GlenOaks and later to the assisted living and care center.
Martin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on church council and various committees. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Martin died on Sunday evening, November 5, 2005 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 95. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; three step-children, LaVonne Filla of Dayton, WA, Francis (Judy) Gustafson of Willmar and Loretta (George) Ruter of Belgrade; 12 step-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-great grandchildren; and sister Hazel Caskey of Raymond.
Martin was preceded in death by step-daughter, Charlotte Lund; step-granddaughter, Yvette Smith; 3 brothers, Carl, Paul and Eddie; 6 sisters, Anna Tollefson, Esther Johnson, Mabel Berg, Nellie Peterson, Dora Henschein, and Clara Gjelhaug.

Shirley “Casper” Johnson, 70 of Willmar, died on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at Bethel Lutheran Church, with interment at Cloverleaf Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 until 8 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Wednesday 1hour at the church.

Shirley Ann “Casper” Petersen was born on August 17, 1936, at St. Peter, Minnesota, the daughter of Paul Christian and Anna Gurine (Sletten) Petersen. She grew up in the Kandiyohi area attending schools in the Kandiyohi and Willmar area.

On May 11, 1956, Casper was united in marriage to Howard Johnson at Webster, South Dakota. This union was blessed with three children. They lived in the Willmar area where she worked as a waitress at John’s Supper Club and Willmar Eagles.

She was baptized on August 17, 1937, and later confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater, Minnesota. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran in Willmar at the time of her death.

Casper was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagle’s Auxiliaries. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Surviving are her children, Terri (and Scott) Swenson, Willmar and Mark Johnson, Willmar; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Jody; two brothers, Alloys “Pete” and Arlo; and sister, Alta Mae.

Marie R. Cline, age 90 of New London, died Wednesday morning, November 1, 2006 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
Funeral services will be 1:30 Sunday, November 5, 2006 at East Norway Lake with Rev. Wayne D. Kopitzke officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2-5:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Marie Ruth Cline was born on December 13, 1915 in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Nils and Alma (Peterson) Johnson. She grew up in Fergus Falls where she attended school and was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith. After her schooling she moved to Minneapolis where she
worked and met her future husband. On May 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Arne Cline in Fergus Falls. To this union one daughter and one
son were born. They made their home in the twin cities where she worked as nurse aid for Abbot Northwest Hospital. Together, Marie and Arne were able to share in 45 years of marriage before Arne’s death on October 16, 1986.
She later moved to the New London area and was currently a resident of the GlenOaks Care Center.

Marie was known for her positive attitude and fun loving personality. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by them. She enjoyed embroidering and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Gwendolyn (Dennis) Boonstra of New London and son, Charles (Roz) Cline of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Orie Johnson of Racine, WI.
Marie was preceded in death by husband Arne; three brothers; three sisters and parents.

Melvin A. Fladeboe, 88, of Willmar, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2006, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday in Cloverleaf Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167 and VFW Post #1639. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Friday, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Vikor Church Memorial.

Melvin was born September 22, 1918 in Willmar the son of Anna J.(Flatebo) and Martin S. Fladeboe. He attended District 76 in Dovre Twp., where he first learned English as only Norwegian was used at home. At age 16, he graduated from Willmar High School in 1935. He attended the Willmar Business College for one year. He was then employed by DeRuyter Construction and the REA.

He was drafted early in 1941, serving in the 217th Coast Artillery. He volunteered and was selected by the Army Air Corps to attend cadet training. He was trained as a navigator and finished 25 missions in a B-17. He attained the rank of Captain and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service.

Mel was united in marriage to Marian (Min) Erickson on October 24, 1944, at Svea Lutheran Parsonage. In 1946 he began working for the Kandiyohi County Highway Department. He eventually became a registered highway engineer and retired as the Kandiyohi County Highway Engineer in 1981.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #167, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1639, National Society of Engineers, the 8th Air Force Historical Society, and the Vikor Memorial Association and served on the Willmar Planning Commission. He also served as the “Chief Lutefisk Cook” for the Lutefisk Supper at Vinje Lutheran Church for many years.

Mel grew up with a love of the outdoors and passed this on to his family. Ever the optimist, he was always going to catch the biggest fish or shoot the best buck. He spent many hours excavating the Valley Golf Course one club at a time. He was quick to laugh and slow to anger. He was always there for his family and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Min; sons Gene and his wife Julie of Mankato, and Gerald and his wife Nancy of Spicer, daughter Karen and her husband Dr. Dean Erickson of Benson; and five grandchildren Martin and his wife Heidi Fladeboe , Steven Fladeboe, Matthew, Nathan and Elizabeth Erickson; and two great-grandchildren Elise and Jack Melvin Fladeboe. Also surviving is his brother Allen Fladeboe of Pierre, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Selmer “Slim” Fladeboe
