Obituaries October-November 2007

Bruce Jewett Eddy, 65, of Willmar, died Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church, Willmar, American Cancer Society and Helping Paws.

Bruce was born on December 3, 1941, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Henry J. and Inez (Larson) Eddy. He attended schools in Svea and Sunnyside Country School through the 8th grade and then went to Willmar High School, graduating in 1959. He completed one year at Willmar Community College. He served in the National Guard from 1963 until 1970.

On February 15, 1964, he was united in marriage to Vicki Matheny. Following their marriage, they lived in Willmar and he worked for Minnesota Department of Transportation until 1975. On November 22, 1974, he was united in marriage to Sydney Kolb in Willmar, Minnesota.

He farmed from 1970 until 1982 and from 1987-1992 as well as working for Haug Implement from 1982-1990. Since 1990, he has been a seed salesman for Keltgen Seed; and since 1998, he has sold for Pioneer Seed.

He was and had been an active member of the following organizations: West Central Ag Sales Association, 4-H, Future Farmers of America, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, Ducks Unlimited, American Legion Post #167 and Pheasant’s Forever. Bruce had also served on Whitefield Township Board for seven years and was on the Advisory Board for Telemark Resort in Cable, Wisconsin. He belonged to the Pacers Car Club and was a member of Koronis Golf Club, often saying, “If you’re a golfer, you’re a friend of mine.”

He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church having been baptized in 1942 and was confirmed in 1955. Bruce had been an elder, Clerk of Session, trustee and served on many committees.

Surviving are his wife, Sydney; mother, Inez Eddy of Willmar, MN; children, Theresa (and Bob) Grove of Phoenix, AZ; Lisa (and David) Strom of Willmar, MN; Duane Eddy of Gaylord, MN: Jill (and Joseph) Drees of Shakopee, MN; Rebecca McCann of Rice Lake, WI: Jeri Svoboda of Prior Lake, MN; David (and Staci) Eddy of Otsego, MN; 11 grandchildren, Daniel and Amanda Judkins, Jennifer and Cody Strom, Zachary Drees, Bennett and Kade McCann, Christopher and Nicole Svoboda, Boston and Madelyn Eddy and two more grandchildren coming soon. Also surviving are his siblings, Joan Herman of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Robert (and Peggy) Eddy of Litchfield, MN; Janet Eddy of Hopkins, MN; Jeanine (and Mike) Ronning of Maple Grove, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry J. Eddy.

Austin Aurora McHugh, 2 month old, died Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Austin was born on September 12, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar the daughter of Joshua John McHugh and Amanda Jo Johnson. Surviving are her parents, sister, Faith Johnson at home; maternal grandparents, Jeff and Lori Johnson of Willmar; paternal grandparents, Mike and Cindy McHugh of Zimmerman; maternal great grandmother, Trudi Ekander; paternal great grandparents, Carolyn McHugh of Minneapolis and Bonnie and Clarence Bjorkstrand of Minneapolis; Also surviving are her uncle, Joshua Johnson; aunt, Heather McHugh and cousin, Jacob.

She was preceded in death by her maternal great grandfather, Harold Johnson; maternal great grandmother, Carol Lindstrand and paternal grandfathers, Ron McHugh and Harold Westrud.

Duane Sheldahl, 60, of Willmar died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-8:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Friday one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167.

Duane Charles Sheldahl was born June 16, 1947, in Buffalo Center, IA, the son of Edward and Ruth (Hertzke) Sheldahl. He grew up in Lakota, IA, where he graduated from Lakota High School in 1965. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and received an honorable discharge in 1968. On June 21, 1969, Duane was united in marriage to Sheryl Heesch at Titonka, IA. Following their marriage they lived in Thompson and Forrest City, IA, where he was employed by Winnebago Industries. In December of 1980, the family moved to Willmar. Duane began working for Christianson Systems, Inc. as a purchasing agent; a job he held for 27 years.

He was baptized and confirmed his faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Iowa. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church at the time of his death, where he had served on the stewardship committee and church council.

Duane was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #167 in Willmar and also volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #224.

He enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, camping and scouting and the times spent with the amigos. He also enjoyed music, especially musical productions. His family recalls the 60th birthday party they celebrated with Duane. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and looked forward to the times they would be together. They remember the family trip to South Dakota in the new Ford Escort with no air conditioning! And while living on Eagle Lake, the fun they had with Duane teaching the kids to water ski. Duane and Sheryl took several trips to Mexico and always recalled the fun they had with their good friends. Duane made a point of calling his mother almost every day just to visit.

Surviving are his wife, Sheryl; children, Michael Sheldahl of Hugo; Shayla (and Jonathan) Mellema of Willmar; five grandchildren, Kylie, Austin, Noah, Samuel and Lillian. Also surviving are his parents Edward and Ruth Sheldahl of Lakota, IA; brothers, Robert (and Mavis) Sheldahl of Albuquerque, NM; Gary (and Eleanor) Sheldahl of Forrest City, IA; sisters, Diane (and Paul) Geilenfeldt of Baxter, IA, Nancy (and Tom) Distler of Solon, IA; 16 nieces and nephews and 31 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Donald Benson, age 55 of New London, died unexpectedly, November 21, 2007 at his home in New London. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Donald Wayne Benson was born March 24, 1952, in Benson, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Danvers. He attended Danvers Elementary School and graduated from Benson High School in 1970. He attended Moorhead State College and Willmar Vo-Tech, and currently worked as a handyman in New London.

Don enjoyed motorcycles and listening to music. He was very talented with his hands and was an inventive problem-solver in his work. He took great pride in his work, his honesty, and his integrity, and he believed fervently in fighting for what he felt was right. He was especially devoted to his mother and he had a deep faith in Jesus Christ.

Preceding Don in death were his father, Alfred Benson; sister Darlene Dallmann; and brothers-in-law David Jokinen and Arvid Dallmann.

He is survived by his mother, Bernice Benson of Chisago City; brother Dave (Gayle) Benson of Eden Prairie; sisters Donna (Steve Olin) Benson of Lindstrom and Denise (Larry Maki) Benson of Deer River; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Sue Leukam, age 51 of Belgrade, died unexpectedly November 26, 2007 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Saturday, December 1, 2007 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Parish Prayer Service. Visitation will continue on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.

Susan Kaye Leukam was born on Feb. 7, 1956 in Sauk Centre, the daughter of John and Lucille (Gysberg) Schaefer. She grew up on a farm near Spring Hill and later moved with her family to a farm east of Belgrade. She attended Belgrade High School, graduating in 1974. On September 30, 1978, Sue was united in marriage to Don Leukam at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. To this union a daughter and son were born. They made their home south of Belgrade, where Sue ran a cleaning business out of her home. She also worked for Rice Hospital in Willmar for the last three years, where she most recently had been working in the health information service department.

Sue is a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she served on the Parish Council. She was also a supporter and member of the BBE Booster Club. Sue enjoyed reading, writing, feeding the birds at their home, taking drives in the convertible and going out to dinner with Don and their family. She was a loving, caring wife and mother that always had time for her family, whether it was being a good listener or taking a moment to write an encouraging note to her children. She was a wonderful role model and mentor, always providing advice and wisdom for their future.

Sue died on Monday, November 26, 2007, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis at the age of 51. She is survived by husband, Don; children, Tracy (Turner) Fixen of Fargo, ND and Robbie Leukam of St. Cloud; three brothers, John Schaefer of Las Vegas, NV, Tom Schaefer of Willmar and Mark Schaefer of Sauk Centre; and two sisters, Mary (Dave) Schmitz of Belgrade and Patty (Steve) Weiner of Milbank, SD.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and many wonderful aunts and uncles.

George J. Ryks 73, of rural Pennock, died on Monday at Paynesville Area Hospital. Services will be 1:30 pm Thursday at Hope Presbyterian Church, Spicer. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 until 7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Thursday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

George James Ryks was born on May 30, 1934, in rural Raymond, the son of George J. and Alice (Buttenhoff) Ryks. He grew up in the Renville and Raymond areas, graduating from Raymond High School in 1953.

On August 26, 1955, George was united in marriage to Joanne Marie Beecroft at the Raymond Christian Reformed Church. This union was blessed with three children. They live in the Willmar and New London areas prior to moving to rural Pennock in 1976. He worked as a sheet metal worker and had been employed with Weidner’s Plumbing and Heating, St. Cloud, prior to his retirement in 1996.

He was baptized and made his affirmation of faith at Raymond Christian Reformed Church and was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church, Spicer at the time of his death. George had served Hope Presbyterian as a church elder and deacon.

He was a member of Union #10 Sheet Metal Workers of America.

His family recalls George’s love for his Shetland Ponies and the enjoyment he had with his John Deere Tractors. His hobbies included fishing and deer hunting. George and Joanne loved to camp, having special memories of their trip to Yellow Stone National Park.

Surviving is his wife, Joanne; children, James Dean (and Carey) Ryks, Buffalo; Jeffrey Lee (and Juli) Ryks, Bloomington and Julie Ann Ryks (and special friend Neil Evans) Willmar; three grandchildren, Nicholas James Ryks, Christopher Jerome Ryks and Jacob Tyler Hanson. Also surviving are his siblings, John Ryks, Gordon (and Mae) Ryks and Harold (and Lorraine) Ryks, all of Willmar, Mary Ann (and Harold) Lindbom, Osage, Dellis (and Charles) Campbell, Shakopee, Robert (and LuAnn) Ryks, Howard Lake, Judy (and Merlyn) Kluver, New London, and sister-in-law, Ellen Ryks, Waverly; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Allen Ryks.

Cornelia “Connie” Lorang, 102, of Willmar, died Monday, November 26, 2007 at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar. A service will be 10:30 am, Saturday, December 1st at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

She was born on March 12, 1905, in Starbuck, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Andrea (Berg) Stromseth. She was raised in the Starbuck and Willmar communities, graduating from Starbuck High School. Following high school, she worked at the telephone company in Starbuck. On March 20, 1924, she was united in marriage to Clifford Delp in Glenwood. They farmed near Hancock for a number of years before his death on December 10, 1963. She continued to live on the farm and on October 15, 1966, Connie was united in marriage to Louis Lorang and they lived in Hancock. They moved to the Willmar area in the early 1980’s. Connie and Louis enjoyed many years together, traveling to 46 states before his death on June 2, 1988. She also enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck, on May 17, 1905 and confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church on August 17, 1919. She was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hancock. Connie had served as a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and President of the Ladies Aid.

Surviving are her children, Marvella (and Calvin) Isaacson of Willmar; Wayne (and Delores) Delp of Hancock; Leslie (and Antoinette) Delp of Willmar; Synova Lundquist of Andover; Clifford (and Linda) Delp of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren.

Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alvin, Carl and her twin, Herbert; three sisters, Luella Nord, Verna Nord and Esther Johnson and grandson, Jeffrey Delp.

Sarah Wearda 92, of Clara City, died on Sunday at Bethesda Heritage. Services will be 10:00 am Thursday at Bethany Reformed Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 until 8 pm at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home Clara City Chapel and on Thursday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Sarah (Anderson) was born on October 9, 1915, in Clara City, Minnesota, the daughter of Tade and Andrea ( Brouwer) Andresen. She grew up in the Clara City where she attended her schooling in the Clara City area, graduating from Clara City High School in 1932.

On October 7, 1937, Sarah was united in marriage to Dick Wearda at her parent’s home. This union was blessed with one daughter. They farmed in rural Clara City until 1946, when they moved to Clara City and started Wearda Implement owning and operating their business for 35 years, retiring in 1979. Sarah and Dick enjoyed spending winters in Clearwater, Florida. Dick preceded her in death on January 27, 2005.

She was baptized and made her affirmation of faith at Bethany Reformed Church where she as a life time member. Sarah had been active with the Ladies Aid.

Sarah enjoyed doing needle work and gardening, both vegetable and flowers. She will always be remembered for her serving ways, willing to share her gifts and talents with those around her.

Surviving is her daughter, Dee (and Byron) Ahrenholz of Spicer; three grandchildren, Kris (and Dan) Freedland of Shorewood; Karla (and Brad) Hultquist of Rosemount; Todd (and Nici) Ahrenholz of Willmar; seven great grandchildren, Rachel, Erica and Nicole Freedland, Alex and Annie Hultquist and Teddy and Hank Ahrenholz. Also surviving is her sister, Katie Asche and brother, Andres Andresen both of Clara City; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

In addition to her husband Dick, Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Egbert Andresen.

Lois Joy Peterson age 68 of Sunburg, died Thursday morning, November 22, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Services are 11:00 AM Monday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A Visitation will be held from Sunday 5-7:00 PM at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake and continue on Monday on hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice.

Lois Joy Peterson was born on July 11, 1939 in Barry, MN, the daughter of Ernest “Bud” and Beulah (Bates) Smith. She was baptized in the Christian Faith at her home and confirmed in April of 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dumont. Lois received her primary school education from a country school in rural Dumont and then went on to finish her high school education at West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, graduating in 1957. After high school she attended the University of Minnesota where she interned at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where she was certified as an X-Ray Technician, staying on to work there.

Lois was united in marriage on November 22, 1958 to Marvin Donald Peterson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dumont. To this union two daughters were born. The family resided in St. Paul from 1958-1981. The summer of 1981 they moved to the New London area, moving into their current residence on Games Lake in 1992. Together Lois and Marvin shared in 49 wonderful years of marriage.

Lois was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake, where she was active in choir, WELCA, Prayer Chain Facilitator, and served in various ways. Lois passionately volunteered with Rice Hospice for 11 years.

Lois enjoyed many activities including golf, home extension, Lois club, morning coffee groups, crafts, reading, music, flower gardening and traveling. She touched many lives with her kind and joyful spirit, always giving of her time and opening their home to friends and family. She was a very devoted and loving wife, mom and grandma, adding her special touch to every moment shared with her family. She will be dearly missed.

Lois J. Peterson died Thursday morning, November 22, 2007, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 68. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Peterson of Sunburg; daughters, Pamela (Troy) Haverly of New London, Shelly (Brian) Ziemer of New London; grandchildren Justin Ziemer, Elizabeth (Jeff) Rohner, Jonathan Haverly, Cassondra Ziemer, Jason Ziemer, siblings, Dennis (Kathy) Smith of Brooklyn Center, Sam Smith of WA, Mary Kaye Smith of Brooklyn Park, and Bonnie (Ken) Warner of Dilworth. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Melvina Peterson of New London; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, and nephews.

Matthew B. Spillman age 25, of New London, died on Saturday morning November 17, 2007. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Matthew Barry Spillman was born on September 18, 1982, in Willmar, the son of David E. and Gaylette C. (Ziegelmann) Spillman. Matt was baptized on November 28, 1982 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer and confirmed into the Christian Faith on April 26, 1998 also at Faith Lutheran Church. He grew up in rural New London and attended Prairie Woods Elementary School and graduated from New London-Spicer High School with the class of 2001. Matt was very active during high school with the FFA and the Ag Program. In 2005 he began work as a mason for Haats Masonry. Matt enjoyed bowling in the New London Bowling League, sport shooting, hunting, ishing, and raising animals. Matt was a great uncle to his nephew, Gage and niece, Kendra. He loved to spend time with them and they couldn’t wait to see him. He always spoke to everyone, and never met a person he didn’t like. Matthew B. Spillman died on Saturday November 17, 2007 at the age of 25.

He is survived by his parents, David and Gaylette of New London; brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Megan Spillman of New London; niece Kendra, nephew Gage.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martin and Christina Spillman, and Clarence Ziegelmann.

Virgil D. Olson age 82, of Paynesville, died Monday, November 12, 2007 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. Interment will be held at the Eden Valley Cemetery following the service. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Virgil DeLloyd Olson was born on June 18, 1925 on the family farm in the Danielson Township, the son of Lawrence and Agnes (Anderson) Olson. He grew up on the family farm where he attended country school for his primary education and then later graduated from Litchfield High School. After his graduation Virgil entered the United States Army where he served his country in the Pacific Campaign. After his service he returned home and was united in marriage to Mary Hanson on February 14, 1947 at the First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. To this union 2 boys and 1 girl were born. The family farmed near Cosmos for 11 years before Virgil accepted a job with Barton Contracting where he drove truck for road construction projects. In 1964 the family moved to Paynesville. Virgil drove truck until 1987 when he retired.

Virgil was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2818 in Litchfield, and a member of the American Legion Post 612 in Lake Henry.

Virgil enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding birds, dancing to the old time polkas and waltzes, and bowling. Above all else Virgil enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Virgil D. Olson died on Monday, November 12, 2007 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, David (and Diane) of Alexandria, Bradley (and Linda) of St. Michael; grandchildren, Ronnie (and Kris) Olson of Alexandria, Robin (and Robert) Payre of Canyon Country CA, Randall Olson (and fiancé Tori Dalton of Alexandria, Natasha Barthel of St. Michael, Jeremiah Olson (and fiancé Tara McLaughlin) of Zimmerman; great-grandchildren, Jazmine and Devyn Olson, Dylan Olson, Gabrielle Payre, Tanner and Tatum Barthel. He is also survived by is niece, Kay Mattzetello; nephew Kim Petersen; and many cousins and friends.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Agnes Olson; daughter, Sue Ann Olson; sister, Eunice Petersen.

Lorraine J. Gerding age 88 of Melrose, formerly of Belgrade, died Friday afternoon, November 9, 2007 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, where there will be a 5:30 Christian Mother’s Rosary and 7:30 p.m. Parish Prayer Service. Visitation will continue on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lorraine Johanna Gerding was born on March 21, 1919 in Melrose, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Maas) Trisko. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. She grew up in Melrose where she attended St. Boniface Elementary School and Melrose High School, graduating in 1937. On March 29, 1940, Lorraine was united in marriage to Gene Gerding in St. Cloud. To this union two sons and one daughter were born. They made their home in Elrosa for a short time before moving to Belgrade in 1947, where she raised her family and worked as a homemaker. They moved to Melrose in 2004. Together Lorraine and Gene were able to share in 67 years of marriage.

Lorraine was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was active in Christian Mothers, Church Choir, and parish council. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, baking, music, visiting with family and friends and going out to eat with Gene. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed and remembered for her wonderful cookies and immaculate house keeping.

Lorraine died on Friday afternoon, November 9, 2007 at the age of 88 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. She is survived by husband, Gene of Melrose; children, Dr. Dale (Mary) Gerding of Chicago, IL, Dr. James (Dodie) Gerding of Spokane, WA and Susan (Steven) Chirhart of North Oaks; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sister Evelyn and six brothers, Edward, Ralph, Clarence, Ervin, Joe, and Richard.

Lyle “Doc” Munneke, 73, of Willmar, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital. A service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery in Corsica, South Dakota. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.

Doc was born on October 31, 1934, in Geddes, SD, the son of Albert and Clara (Haugum) Munneke. He was raised on a farm in the Corsica area and graduated from Corsica High School in 1952. On January 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Alvina Isakson in Corsica. He continued his education at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion for pre-med, graduating in 1957. Doc then attended Medical School at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating from Medical School in 1959, he served his residency in Duluth before moving to Clara City and starting his practice. In 1976, Doc moved his practice, Family Practice Medical Center, to Willmar. He truly cared for his patients, retiring from general practice in 2002. He was still Kandiyohi County Coroner, of which he served for many years.

He was involved in numerous civic, volunteer and professional organizations including, Lions, Mason – Sharon Lodge 104, Shriner’s, Circle of Support, Rice Memorial Hospital Foundation and People on Watch, over the years. Doc especially had a commitment to the following organizations that were dear to his heart and profession, Rural Physicians Associates Program, Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians, of which he served as President, founder and Chairman of Minnesota Rural Health Care Coop and of course, the local Harley Hog Chapter.

He was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Corsica and was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church where taught Christ Care and was involved in Men’s Bible Study.

Surviving are his wife, Alvina; sons, Douglas (and Joy) Munneke of St. Cloud; Dwight Munneke of Willmar and daughter, Dawn (and Kenneth) Fisch of Willmar; brothers, Rev. Keith (and Ruth) Munneke of Edwardsburg, MI; Lloyd (and Pearl) Munneke of Rock Valley, IA; and sister, Charlotte (and Richard) Larsch of Mt. Vernon, SD as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry H. Wetterling, 75, of Willmar, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital. A service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Jerry was born on February 18, 1932, in Kensington, MN, the son of Joe and Pearl (Skaugseth) Wetterling. He was raised in Kensington where he graduated from high school in 1950. Following his schooling, he worked for Ottertail Power Company for a number of years. On June 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Betty Belgum in Kensington at Nora Lutheran Church. He continued to work for Ottertail Power Company while living in Elbow Lake. Starting in 1953, he began his carpentry career with Erick Person Construction. In 1962, they moved to Willmar and was a partner in Thompson – Wetterling Construction before starting WSW Construction in the early 1970’s.

He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Kensington and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Jerry had been an usher, greeter and helped with Meal on Wheels.

Jerry was never idle and nothing grew under his feet. He was constantly, hunting, fishing, mowing, golfing, working and tinkering. Most of all, he followed his grandchildren in all that they did; being proud of their success and able to teach a lesson in their failures, with unconditional love.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; sons, Jon (and Judy) Wetterling of Willmar; Lee (and special friend, Julie Reese) of Willmar; daughter, Lynn (and Roger) Mischke of St. Joseph; four grandchildren Steven, Matthew, Jennifer and Joseph; siblings, Joyce (and Robert) Jacobson of Willmar; Carole (and Richard) Lofquist of Kensington; David (and Renee) Wetterling of Hutchinson and brother-in-law, Joel Hauglie of Kensington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elaine Hauglie.

Joseph W. Merhar, 88, of Willmar, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. A service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Willmar.

Joseph was born on November 1, 1919, in Nashwauk, Minnesota and was raised in the Iron Range area where he attended his schooling. He worked for the CCC and later in the iron mines of the Mesabi Range of northern Minnesota. On October 25, 1947 he was united in marriage to Rita Kamphake in Urbank, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Virginia, Parkers Prairie and Lake Lillian prior to moving to Willmar in 1964. He was a truck driver and drove for Hanson Silo Company, Lake Lillian, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed woodworking, fixing cars and belonged to a CCC group that met regularly.

Surviving are his children, Linda (and Gordon) Hemze of Willmar; David (and Cindy) Merhar of Ham Lake, MN; Louise (and John) Ashley of New London; four grandchildren, Andrew and William Merhar, Joseph and Raymond Whitaker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rita in 1996 and granddaughter, Robin Haskins.

Eleanor L. Monson 87, of Willmar, died on Wednesday at Bethesda Pleasantview, where she had been a resident for the past 7 ½ years. A service to celebrate her life will be 11:00 am Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday 1 hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.

Eleanor Lorraine (Feifarek) was born on March 31, 1920, in Roseland Township, the daughter of Ludwig and Anna (Toupal) Feifarek. She grew up in Roseland Township where she attended Dist 90 country school. Prior to her marriage Eleanor worked for area families and business.

On September 27, 1941, Eleanor was united in marriage to Clifford R. Monson at the Baptist Church parsonage in Willmar. Following their marriage they farmed the Monson family homestead south of Willmar until their retirement. They continued to live on the family farm following their retirement. Clifford preceded her in death on May 7, 1983, following his death Eleanor moved into Willmar where she enjoyed entertaining her friends.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church at the time of her death.Eleanor’s family recalls what a kind and giving person and a beloved mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker and a dedicated caregiver for her family. Eleanor loved to garden, a good cup of coffee, loved a good laugh, to dance and have fun and visit with her friends. She enjoyed baking and playing cards. She was a very hard worker.

On Wednesday November 7, 2007, Eleanor died at Bethesda Pleasantview, where she had been a resident for the past 7 ½ years. Surviving are her children, Donavon (and Kathleen) Monson of Willmar, Mary (and Jack) O’Rourke, Charlotte, North Carolina, Gary Monson, Willmar, Calvin (and Diane) Monson, Willmar and Darlene Monson Kropp of St. Cloud; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Monson, Matthew Monson of Willmar; Mark O’Rourke and Michael O’Rourke of Charlotte, NC; Char (and JoAnn) Monson of Willmar; Amy Monson of Willmar; David (and Jenna) Monson of Kandiyohi; Christopher Monson of St. Cloud; Anna Monson of Willmar; Stephanie Kropp and Michael Kropp, both of St. Cloud; two great grandchildren, Grace and Cale Monson of Willmar. Also surviving are her nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

In addition to her husband Clifford of 42 years, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Anna; son Roger in 1976; brother, Ervin Feifarek and sister, Louise Ennenga.

Arthur Kjeldahl age 88, of Brooten, died Wednesday afternoon November 7, 2007, at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Big Grove Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4- 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Carl Arthur Kjeldahl, the son of Julius and Emma (Moen) Kjeldahl was born on April 6, 1919. The family lived in Brooten until 1924, when they moved to the farm in North Fork township. Arthur attended country school at District #109, known as the Gulsvig School. He attained his diploma from the eighth grade on July 1, 1932. Arthur was baptized and confirmed at the Big Grove Lutheran Church, and was a lifetime member there.

Arthur started farming with his father during the depression years of the 1930’s, and farmed together with his brother George until semi-retirement in the 1980’s. They also did custom work for many area farmers; including corn shelling, combining, and grain hauling. He was married to Marjorie Henke in 1968. To this union one son was born, they were subsequently divorced.

Arthur enjoyed hunting and fishing trips up north, of which he could recall countless stories. He also enjoyed visiting with neighbors and taking evening drives to look at the crops. He was very close to his family and enjoyed getting letters from far away brothers and sisters. He especially enjoyed children and was very proud of his grandson.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2007; Arthur died at the Belgrade Nursing Home at the age of 88 years. He is survived by one son, Bradley & (Karrie) of Willmar; 2 sisters, Norma & (Russell) Sondrol of Crystal, MN, Viola Lee of Minneapolis, MN, and grandson, Elias.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Rapp, Edith Gustafson, and Ruth Thostenson; and 6 brothers, Nels, Ebert, Milton, George, Sherman, and Walter; and four grandchildren.

Tim Welch, 43, of Willmar, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar from a 12 month fight with a rare kidney cancer. Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Timothy Orlin was born on January 10, 1964, in St. Cloud, the son of Clarence “Kelly” and Maxine (Nordstrom) Welch. He was raised in Willmar attending Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Willmar High School in 1982.

Tim had worked as a sales associate at Wal-Mart and was a laborer for Minnesota Trap Line Products. He also was self-employed operating Minnesota Brand Tackle and was a professional outdoorsman. Tim was a past club member of Little Crow Anglers.

He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud and was confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar where he was a member.

Surviving are his parents, Kelly and Maxine Welch of Willmar; siblings, Jeff (and Becky) Behm of Raymond; Jodi (and Troy) Anderson of Blacksburg, VA; Scott (and Taffany) Welch of Sartell; three nieces and five nephews: Cameron and Cory Behm; Jessica, Jamie and Jenna Anderson; Jordon, Ramsey and Christian Welch.

His grandparents preceded him in death.

Merlin John Meierhofer, 87, of Willmar, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Friday at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with a Parish Prayer service at 4:30 pm and rosary prayed at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass on Friday.

Merlin John was born on December 11, 1919, in Watkins, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Irene (McMakin) Meierhofer. He was raised in the Watkins area, graduating from Kimball High School. He worked for his parents in Watkins prior to enlisting into the United States Army in 1942. He served during WW II, receiving his honorable discharge on November 14, 1945. On June 27, 1946, he was united in marriage Jeanette Grossman at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. Following their marriage, they lived in Maple Lake where he worked for Progressive Dairy. He was a traveling salesman for a few years prior to owning and operating Midway Grocery in Sauk Rapids. Merlin and Jeanette lived in Prescott, Arizona from 1988 to 1990 when they moved to Willmar.

While living in Maple Lake he was a Cub Master, member of Lions, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion where he had served as past Commander. Since moving to Willmar, he has been a member of Church of St. Mary and American Legion Post #167, Willmar.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette; children, Thomas (and Joanne) Meierhofer of Willmar; Daniel (and Sandra) Meierhofer of College Park, GA; Mary (and G.John) Larson of Watertown, SD; Joan (and Paul) Blair of Mesa, AZ; John (and Teresa) Meierhofer of Lino Lakes, MN; seven grandchildren, Jeanette, Dennis, Gretchen, Jessica, Elizabeth, Sarah, Joshua; siblings, Maynard (and Virginia) Meierhofer of Ripon, WI; Jo Ann Round of Monticello and Gene (and Cindy) Meierhofer of Belgrade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister.

Henry Vande Steeg, 85, of Willmar, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Funeral services will be 2:30 pm, Thursday, November 15th at Willmar Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be at 1:00 pm, Thursday, November 15th at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, November 14th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

He was born on March 2, 1922, in Hospers, Iowa, the son of Marinus and Alice (Toering) Vande Steeg. He grew up and lived in the Prinsburg area for most of his life. After attending school in Clara City, he entered the US Army and served in WW II, from 1942-1946. He loved being a baker in the Army. He attended Kansas City School of watchmaking and graduated in 1948. He was united in marriage to Miriam Langenbach on August 21, 1948 in Mexico, Missouri. After apprenticeship in Elbow Lake for two years, he opened Van’s Jewelry in Brooten and in 1956; he moved his store to Willmar. He retired in 1985 due to health reasons.

He was a member of Willmar Christian Reformed Church where he had served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School and Tuesday School teacher. Over the past years, he was active in a men’s Bible study, Noon Lion’s Club Toastmasters and a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s. He loved to fish, garden, watch baseball games, (especially the Twins) and was very proud to be the founder of the Willmar Farmer’s Market, which was organized over 40 years ago. He cherished the times spent playing and watching his grandchildren growing up. S special highlight each summer holiday was to serve outdoor breakfast to neighbors and friends at their cabin on Lake Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam of 59 years; daughters, Chris (and Terry) Reimer, Marleen (and Myron) Clark, Sallie (and Stan) Green all of Willmar; Amy (and David) Mattioli of Leucadia, CA; nine grandchildren, Christina (and Bill) Jurgenson, Ben Andy and Mollie Clark, Mindy, Anna and Daniel Green, Patrick and Kirstin Mattioli and great grandchildren, David, Lily and soon to be baby Jurgenson. Also surviving are his sisters, Martha Kiel, Kathleen (and Wayne) Hayunga both of Willmar; Marion (and Mare) Vande Steeg of Hudsonville, MI and sister-n-law, Martha Vande Steeg of Prinsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clarence.

Marilyn Docksey, 80, of Willmar, died Monday, October 29th at Rice Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Saturday, November 10th at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Friday, November 9th with a parish prayer service at 4:30 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Marilyn was born on May 29, 1927, in Wausau, Wisconsin, the daughter of Arthur and Alvina (Weir) Skinner. She was raised and graduated from high school in Wausau. Marilyn then continued her education at receiving her RN Degree. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee for five years. On June 17, 1950, she was united in marriage John Docksey in Wausau, WI. They lived in Wausau, Milwaukee and Philadelphia, while John attended Marquette University Medical School and served his internship and surgical residency. In 1956, they moved to Willmar.

She was a member of Church of St. Mary in Willmar.

Surviving are her husband, John; children, J. Ross (and Chris) Docksey of Long Grove, IL; Susan (and Don) Gunnin of Breckenridge, CO; Anne (and Jay) Newell of Roundup, MT; Laura (and Tom) Downey of Anchorage, AK; Tom (and Karen) Docksey of Owatonna; Jim (and Jan) Docksey of Chippewa Falls, WI; Sara (and Paul) Mullaney of Chanhassen; Andrew Docksey of Milwaukee; 18 grandchildren, Katie, Dan and Abbey Newell, Jessica and Melissa Downey, Ben, Sheala, Quinlyn and Kevin Mullaney, Sam, Max, Nick, Jake and Kate Docksey, John and Adam Docksey, Joe Docksey and Tessa Gunnin. Also surviving are her sister, Jean Ostlund of Willmar; brothers, Jim (and Sue) Skinner of Chesterfield, MO and Tom (and Mary) Skinner of Sun Prairie, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Anne Mullaney.

Michael “Mike” Lang, 53, of Willmar, died on Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Michael Myron “Mike” Lang was born on May 8, 1954, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Orvis and Rhoda (Johnson) Lang. He grew up in Willmar, attending Garfield Elementary and graduated from Willmar High School in 1972.

On December 2, 1989, Mike was united in marriage to Marie Lene at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Benson. Following their marriage they lived in Willmar. Mike worked with his father at Lang Plumbing for 15 years. In 1994, Mike began working with developmentally challenged adults through REM, working until the time of his death.

He was baptized in 1967, at the Church of God and was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church at the time of his death.

His family recalls Mike’s love of fishing, even taking his clients fishing to Mille Lacs Lake to fish on a charter. He looked forward to the many hunting trips with his father and friends, for deer, pheasants, ducks and geese. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his niece, Lavender and nephew, Bryton. Mike will be missed by all, especially his closest companion, his dog Abby.

Surviving is his wife, Marie; parents, Orvis and Rhoda Lang, Willmar; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Preston Dodds, niece, Lavender; and nephew, Bryton all of Corcoran, MN; mother-in-law, Delaine Lene of Benson; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father-in-law, Charles Lene.

Loren J. Eickoff, 85, of Belgrade died Monday night, October 29, 2007, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran West Cemetery in Belgrade. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Loren John Robert Eickhoff was born on May 21, 1922 in Fairmont, the son of Charles and Mary (Harder) Eickhoff. He grew up in Truman, where he attended country grade school in Fraser Township of Martin County. On October 22, 1942, he entered the United States Army where he served his country during the WWII until his honorable discharge on Dec. 23, 1945. On May 4, 1943, Loren was united in marriage to Verna Meyer in Oregon. To this union nine children were born. After his military service, they made their home in Truman until 1959 when they moved to Belgrade where Loren farmed, managed Belgrade Produce and did shoe repair. In 1976, they moved to Aitkin, where they owned and operated the Big K Campground until they returned to Belgrade in 1979. Together, they were able share in 65 years of marriage.

Loren was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and lifetime member of the Belgrade VFW. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and camping with his wife, Verna. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, special occasions and spending time with his family.

Loren died on Monday evening, October 29, 2007 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 85. He is survived by wife, Verna of Belgrade; nine children, Phyllis (Duane) Bendorf of Chaska, Deloris (Kenny) Hamann of Albany, Larry (Lorraine) Eickhoff of Kandiyohi, Joyce (Howard) Soine of Belgrade, Velma (Jim) Gable of Belgrade, Sharon (Roger) Oeltjenbruns of Belgrade, Karen (Mark) Kuefler of Belgrade, Carol Eickhoff of Willmar and Dennis (Rosalyn) Eickhoff of Belgrade; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Viola Range of Fairmont, Leona Thilges of Emmetsburg, IA, Florence Westphal of Fairmont and Grace Olson of Park Rapids; brother, William (Marvel) Eickhoff of Ellmor, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; a sister; son-in-law, Larry; granddaughter, Angie and great-grandson, Hunter.

Martin R. “Marty” Schriner, 35, of Plymouth, died on Saturday from a boating accident on Eagle Lake. Memorial services are being held at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church, 17205 Co Rd. 6, Plymouth, MN on Thursday at 3pm. Local arrangements were handled by Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.

Martin Richard “Marty” Schriner was born on May 20, 1972, in Port Huron, Michigan, the son of Charles and Judith (Tikkanen) Schriner. He grew up in Port Huron, graduating from Port Huron Northern High School in 1990. He continued his education at the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1994 with a BS in Education. He received his Masters in Education from St. Mary’s.

On June 4, 1994, Marty was united in marriage to Julie Baker, at Willmar, Minnesota. They lived in Roanoke, VA until 1996, when they moved to Plymouth. Marty was currently teaching Social Studies at North View Junior High and was the assistant coach for the Wayzata High School Varsity Hockey team.

Surviving is his wife, Julie; step mother, Marilyn Schriner, East China, MI; sister, Michelle (Tom) Kimbro, Rochester Hills, MI; Matt (Raedene) Schriner, Macomb, MI; three nephews, Keith, Kurt and Karson; in-laws, Jerry and Vicki Baker, Willmar, sister and brother-in law, Renee and Brian Gilbertson, Maple Grove; niece Erin; nephew Jeremy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Hazel Florence Beliveau, age 87 of Willmar, died on Friday, October 26, 2007 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 10:30 am, on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7pm on Monday with a 6:30 pm prayer service at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Hazel Florence Beliveau was born on March 22, 1920, in Hawick, Minnesota, the daughter on Arthur and Blanch (West) Welch. She grew up in the Hawick, New London area where she attended country school. She was united in marriage to Fred Beliveau on October 3, 1937 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kandiyohi.

The couple lived in Willmar where Fred worked for the Great Northern Railroad and Hazel worked at the Willmar State Hospital as a technician for 22 years. She also drove taxi in Willmar for many years.

Fred died on July 7, 2003. Hazel continued to live in Willmar and entered Bethesda Heritage Center.

She was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar.

She was also a member of a card club and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing cards and board games with everybody. She also enjoyed cooking, shopping and spending time with her family. She and Fred traveled to Arizona in the winter months and they would spend the summer months with their family at the lake.

Hazel is survived by her son, James (and Jean) Beliveau of Austin, Texas (formerly of Willmar); daughter Bonnie (and Lloyd) Hartmann of Hopper, Nebraska; grandchildren: Troy Beliveau, Rod Beliveau, Kelly (and Tom) Welle, Perry (and Kathy) Hartmann, Steve (and Stacey) Hartmann, Amy (and Joe) Grof; great-grandchildren: Therese, Christopher and Brandon Beliveau, Elizabeth and Benjamin Welle, Anlis, Alika, Keenan, Delaney, and Teagan Hartmann and Ashley, Bret and Darian Grof, and great-great-grandson Lexyn Grof.

In addition to her husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Bernard Steigerwald, 89, of Willmar, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, October 29, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 pm, Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Memorials preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church and Rice Hospice.

Bernard was born on July 24, 1918, on the south side of Chicago, IL and was raised by his Grandma Bode. On October 18, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Ane Petersen. As a member of the “Greatest Generation,” Bernie proudly served in the United States Army during WW II and was honorably discharged in 1945. Bernie and Dorothy chose New London, MN and later Willmar to make their home and raise their family. Bernie worked as a shoe salesman at Howard’s Shoes, Habicht’s and Torgerson’s. For the last few years before his retirement in 1983, he was a clerk at Rice Memorial Hospital.

Most important to Bernie throughout his life was his Lord and his church, Calvary Lutheran, of which he was a member for more than 50 years. He was President of the congregation during the building of the current church, served as Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher, and was on numerous other committees and boards.

Second only to his faith was Bernie’s joy and devotion to his family, Paul (and Susan) Steigerwald of Lake Florida and Plymouth; Donald (and JoAnne) Steigerwald of Princeton; Ane (and Pete) Rogers of Walker; Jean (and Steve) Rasmussen of Forest Lake; nine grandchildren, Todd Steigerwald, Nichole (and Paul) Springer; John, Derek and Erin Steigerwald, Peter (and Krista) Rogers, Sarah Rogers, Mitchel and Bryce Rasmussen; three great grandchildren, Madeline and Emma Springer and Merritt Rogers. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Rodney (and Thoma) Petersen of Wheaton, MD and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dorothy preceded him to the Kingdom of Heaven in 1987 and Bernie was reunited with Dorothy and transferred to the Church Triumphant on Thursday, October 25, 2007.

Janet Lynn Flick, 61 of Willmar, died on Thursday at Rice Memorial Hospital, living with ovarian cancer since 1999. Memorial services will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Friends may call on Monday from 5 until 7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home. The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.

Janet (Shaw) was born on October 14, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Howard and Edna (Krause) Shaw. They moved to Denison, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from high school. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education from Midwestern College of Denison in 1970.

While attending college she met Fred Flick. They were married on June 12, 1966. In 1970, they moved to Stratford, Iowa, and in 1972, they relocated to Rockwell City, Iowa. They moved to Willmar in 1980.

Janet began her full-time teaching career in 1980. She was most recently employed as Coordinator of Adult Basic Education in 11 school districts in west central Minnesota. She was a trainer/presenter for the Minnesota Literacy Network and in 2005, named Minnesota Community Education Educator of the Year.

She served on various boards and organizations throughout her life. She was Chairperson of the Kandiyohi County Corrections Board, Adult Education Consortium leader, and a United Way volunteer. She was a Campfire leader, a member of Eagle Creek Golf Course and an Honorary Chair of Relay for Life.

Janet was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA, She and Fred joined Calvary Lutheran Church in 1980, where she was an active member. Janet served on the church council and call committees, was a Sunday school teacher, and participated in the Advent Festivals, sang with the Senior Choir and One Accord. She enjoyed WELCA, small group bible study, and delivering Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; three children, Amy (and Kevin) Bebler of Chaska, Ann (and Steve) Trochlil, Willmar, and Cole (and fiancée Beth Remme) of Dassel; one brother, Gary (and Carol) Shaw of Wichita KS; 10 grandchildren, and well as nieces, nephews and many loving friends,

Richard L. Carlson, 90, of Kerkhoven died on Tuesday at his home following an illness. Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church with interment at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 5 until 8 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home Kerkhoven Chapel and on Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Richard Leonard Carlson was born on July 6, 1917, at Kerkhoven, Minnesota the son of Oscar and Gjeretine (Stölen) Carlson. He grew up in the Kerkhoven area, graduating from Kerkhoven High School. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1940, with a degree in engineering.  He served in the Army Air Force as a navigator during World War II.

In 1951, Richard was united in marriage to Dorres Ostling. This union was blessed with two sons. Richard worked with his father at the International dealership in Kerkhoven. In the early 1950’s he worked for McDonald Douglas. He later worked with his brother Roy in a tiling and drainage business. He also worked in sales for Norling Brothers Silo and Menards and did surveying independently and was a viewer for Swift County. Dorres preceded him in death in 1960. On August 15, 1970, Richard was united in marriage to Mary Lou Marohn at the Evangelical Free Church in Willmar. They made their home in Kerkhoven. Richard continued working as a viewer and was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Willmar for 10 years.

He served 17 years on the Kerkhoven - Sunburg School Board, eight years on Bethesda Homes Board in Willmar and nine years on the Swift County Planning Commission. He was a member of Kerkhoven Lutheran Church where he served as church treasurer and was a youth sponsor

His family recalls his strong faith, reading the Bible daily. He jogged well into his 70’s, loved to golf, love to visit with friends and family, and enjoyed going to coffee at Sherrie’s Café and Freida’s. Richard loved to meet new people; nobody was a stranger to him. Richard was proud of his family and looked forward to the family picnics. At his 90th birthday party, his family asked Richard what he would like them to remember and his response was “You can’t do everything” and “Put your trust in the Lord.”

On Tuesday October 23, 2007, Richard died at his home at the age of 90 years. Surviving is his loving wife Mary Lou; children, Barry (and Kathryn) Carlson, Willmar; Craig (and Suzanne) Carlson, Kimberling, MO; Robin (and Ron) Nelson, Johnstown, CO; Dan Carlson, Alvin, TX; Linette (and Paul) Werner, Apple Valley; and Stephanie Carlson, Kerkhoven; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Ruth Warner of Leasburg,FL.

In addition to his first wife Dorres, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy; and sisters, Margaret and Hazel.

Marlys Jane Bergman, 82, of Willmar died Monday, October 22, 2007, at Rice Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Marlys Jane Bergman was born on April 13, 1925, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Engvald and Minnie (Amundson) Qvale. She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in the class of 1943.

She was united in marriage to Donald Bergman on March 13, 1948, in Willmar. They lived in Redwood Falls and in 1952, returned to Willmar. This union was blessed with three children. In addition to being a homemaker, Marlys worked at Woolworths and took telephone orders for Sears. She later worked for the West Central Tribune in circulation. Following their retirement the couple traveled through out the US, Canada, and Mexico, driving everywhere they went. Donald died on April 10, 2001. Marlys continued to live at her home in Willmar.

Marlys was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Willmar where she was involved in the choir and circle in the past. She was a Girl Scout Leader and also active with the Willmar Senior Citizens.

Marlys enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, gardening, and traveling. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always attended their extracurricular activities, whether hockey games or band concerts. She and Don were even honored with being the fans of the year for the Little Crow Ski Team.

Marlys was very organized both at home and with her schedule, she was always on time. She had set days of the week to have lunch with her sister and son and to get her hair done every Friday at 11am.

Marlys Jane Bergman died Monday October 22, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 82 years. She is survived by her son, Jeff (and Brenda) Bergman of Spicer; son-in-law: Ronald Fostervold of Spicer; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and sisters: Mayme Lynch of Willmar and Roxie (and Quint) Norby of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Nancy Bergman in 1975, and Judy Fostervold in 1981.

Alice M. Langager, 93, of Willmar, died Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Friday, October 26, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 – 8:00 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Alice was born on August 18, 1914, in Willmar, MN, the daughter of Nels H. and Ida (Holland) Anderson. She attended school in Willmar, graduating from high school in 1932. Subsequent to graduation she worked for Montgomery Ward. On August 18, 1936, she was united in marriage to Alvin Langager at her parents’ home and they were life long residents of Willmar.

She was a lifetime member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she was baptized on September 20, 1914 and later confirmed. Alice was active with Ladies Aid and volunteered for the Advent Festival.

She enjoyed being a hostess in her home, always having the door open, coffee on and a variety of cookies to share. She was an avid gardener, gifted seamstress and was a quiet, humble, behind the scenes supporter of her church and family.

Surviving are her children, Bruce (and Constance) Langager of Blaine; Joan (and Larry) Lorenz of Eau Claire, WI; four grandchildren, Chad Langager, Jennifer (and Chad) Kettering, Luke (and Jill) Myhers, Jacob Myhers and great grandson, Gunner. Also surviving is her sister Dorothy Lindquist of Minneapolis and her sisters-in-law, Helen Langager of Willmar, Rachel Langager of Willmar and Mary Helen Lind of Sun City, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin on May 29, 1984, and brother, Harold Anderson.

Donald R. Skrypek age 66, of Paynesville died on Monday, October 22, 2007, at his residence in Paynesville. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 Thursday, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Interment will be at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and continue one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Don was born at St. Joseph’s hospital in St. Paul to Cecelia (Bofenkamp) and John Skrypek on January 18, 1941. Don was the forth of ten children. He attended St. Columba Elementary School and graduated from Cretin High School in 1959. He entered the United States Navy in 1959. He returned to Minnesota in 1964 to attend college at the University of St. Thomas. Don graduated from St. Thomas with a Bachelors of Arts in History and a minor in Spanish, with a K-12 teaching and counseling certificate.

Don met Lorraine Baxter in White Bear Lake. They were married on December 18th, 1971. The next fall Don took an elementary counseling position in Paynesville, Minnesota. Don continued to teach several different positions within the district for the next 30 years. When Don retired from teaching in 2001 he had educated young people for 34 years in a variety of areas inside and outside the classroom. He was also involved in coaching athletics and a leader of the Science Club.

Don hobbies included fishing, golfing, hunting, laughing, and visiting with friends and family. He also enjoyed every moment he could with his grandchildren. He always seemed to mesmerize them with his great speaking voice while he read them books.

Don was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. He was a member of the Paynesville American Legion Post # 271, and the Knights of Columbus. Don was a past member of the American Legion Color Guard, Paynesville Lions Club, and Paynesville Jaycees. He was a leader in the community doing many activities through church and the community to help young people.

Donald Raymond Skrypek, 66 went to his eternal rest on October 22nd, 2007. Don had been fighting pancreatic cancer since October 2006. He is survived by his three children and spouses, Suzanne (and Dan) Hansen of Litchfield, Jennifer (and Lameck) Arika of Burnsville, Jeff (and Marnessa) of Big Lake; grandchildren, Natalie, Greta, and Ingrid Hansen, Treyton, Arika, and Tyler and Carter Skrypek. He is also survived by his siblings, Patty (and Gene) Schwartz of Shoreview, Jack Skrypek of St. Paul, Janet Skrypek, of St. Paul, Greg Skrypek of Stillwater, Rod (and Nancy) Skrypek of White Bear Lake, Bev (and Bill) Berglund of St. Paul, Terry (and Val) Skrypek of White Bear Lake, Randy (and Mary) Skrypek of Shoreview, David (and Cathy) Skrypek of Inner Grove Heights; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine in 2002, and unborn baby, Jesse.

Paul A. Lindquist, age 85 of New London, died Thursday afternoon, October 18, 2007 at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical Covenant Church in New London. Burial will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Paul Arthur Lindquist was born August 16, 1922 in New London, MN the son of Herman F. and Edith (Carlson) Lindquist. He grew up on a farm in New London Township and attended District 9 Country School and graduated from New London High School in 1940, where he played football. Paul graduated from the Minnesota School of Business, then moved to California and worked for Douglas Aircraft until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1943. He served in Europe and survived the attack of the SS Leopoldville on Christmas Eve of 1944. He was later awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received during the attack.

He returned home and married Adell Olson on August 10, 1946 at the New London Covenant Church. They farmed at Lake Lillian for 3 years. Afterwards they moved into New London, then to Spicer in 1953. He worked for Halvorson Co. in Spicer for 35 years as a farm implement dealer.

Paul was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Covenant church in New London where he served on various boards and committees and taught Sunday school for many years.

He enjoyed his retirement traveling with Adell, also spending several winters in Arizona. He loved to visit and spend time with his children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

On Thursday October 18, 2007 Paul died at the GlenOaks Care Center at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife, Adell; children, Linda of Minneapolis, Joyce (Larry) Roberg of Paynesville, Larry (Karen) Lindquist of Spicer. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Jason (Cindy) Roberg of Paynesville, Jennifer (Jason) Sands of New Zealand, Sara Lindquist of Littleton, CO, Amy Lindquist of Fridley, Kevin Lindquist of St. Cloud, Anna Lindquist of Spicer; great-grandchildren, Weston, Andrea, and Leanna Roberg, Jade Lindquist and Eli Sands.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Roy and Rudy: 2 sisters, Ruth and Esther.

Caroline Noor, 96, of Pennock, died Saturday, October 20, 007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. Burial will be in Mamrelund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pennock. Visitation will be from5-7 pm, Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Caroline was born on March 4, 1911 at her parent’s home southwest of Swift Falls, Minnesota. She was the first child of David M. and Sophia (and Johnson) Davidson. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed by Rev. G. G. Beito at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Swift County. She was raised on the family farm and attended District 14 School, rural Swift Falls. Caroline worked for neighbors as a housekeeper until moving to Willmar where she worked for Blossom Bakery.

On March 31, 1936, she was united in marriage to Dave Noor at the United Methodist Church in Raymond. They were blessed with five children. They stayed in the Raymond area until moving to Leonard, Minnesota, where they cleared the land, built a house, barn and began farming. After six years, they moved to Pennock and farmed.

Caroline enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing and crocheting, making many Afghans, quilts and doilies. Her lefse, flat bread, apple pies were enjoyed by many who attended the church bazaar. She also loved gardening and tending to her lawn. She was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church where she had been a member of WELCA. Caroline also was a member of 50+ Over Club and a Home Extension Group.

Surviving are her children, James Noor, Springfield, OR: Shirley Nelson of Pennock; Howard (and Vicki) Noor of Pennock; Sandra Abell of Willmar; six grandchildren, Robert (and Julie) Noor, Barry (and Charity) Noor, Reed (and Julie) Noor, Todd (and Glenna) Nelson, Traci Nelson, Kelly (and fiancée, Danny Walton); 18 great grandchildren, Derek, Wesley and Jared Noor, Alysha, Shayla, Trey, Ashley Nelson, Mason and Kari Andert, Zackary and Aria Walstad, Joseph Stodolski, Dallas Walton, Caleb, Benjamin, Abigale, David and Katie Noor; great great grandson, Keynan Noor; two sisters, Josie Tollefsrud of Willmar; Sylvia (and Chuck) Pake of Rufus, OR; brother, Edward Davidson of Benson and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Noor of Benson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dave; son, David, brother, Richard and sisters, Olga Svor and Leila Davidson and two sisters in infancy. Also preceding her in death was grandson, Gregory and great granddaughter, Nicole Noor.

Rick Alan Brendmoen, 51, of Willmar, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Rice Care Center. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Rick was born on February 2, 1956, in Valley City, North Dakota, the son of Raymond and Shirley (Sandness) Brendmoen. He attended grade school in Valley City and Grand Forks before moving to Granite Falls in 1969, where he attended high school. He lived in Minneapolis for a number of years before moving to Denver in 1988. In June of 2007, because of declining health he moved to Willmar.

He was baptized at Free Lutheran Church in Valley City and was confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Shirley (and Willis) Johnson of Willmar; brothers, Steven (and Kelly) Brendmoen of Montevideo, MN; Paul Brendmoen of Alexandria and Mark Brendmoen of Scottsdale, AZ; three step-brothers and a step-sister.

Bradley Johnson, age 42 of Willmar died on October 17, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, October 22, 2007 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Bradley Duane Johnson was born on October 30, 1964 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, The son of Harvey and Darlene (Iverson) Johnson. He grew up in the St. Cloud area and attended school. Brad worked various jobs and moved to the Willmar area in 1993. He worked for Rick Carlson roofing, and was a cook and custodian for the Willmar Eagles Club and the Willmar American Legion Club.

Brad was a member of the Willmar Eagle's Club Aerie 2334, and son of the American Legion in Willmar. Brad was an avid NASCAR race car fan, especially Jeff Gordon, he loved sports, playing golf with his friends, and volunteered his time, energy and heart wherever and whenever needed.

Brad will be very sadly missed by his family and his many, many friends. We love you Brad!

On Wednesday, October 17, 2007 Bradley died at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 42 years. He is survived by his son Bradley Johnson Jr. of St. Paul, Minnesota; mother Darlene M. Johnson of Willmar; brothers and sisters: Brian Johnson of Alexandria, Candace Johnson of Willmar, Brett Johnson of St. Cloud, Judy Johnson of Willmar, Lorilee Johnson of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Terry Johnson of Hopkins; and special friend Amy Ritz of Willmar.

Dorothy E. (Stock) Hans, 83, of Willmar, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am, Monday, October 22, 2007, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Appleton. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm, Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Dorothy was born on February 17, 1924, on the family farm, in Shible Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Adolph and Lydia (Rau) Stock. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Appleton High School in 1942. She worked as a cook at the elementary school in Appleton for many years. In 1973, she moved to Willmar. From 1976 until 1992 she worked at the Willmar State Hospital.

She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Dorothy was a very faithful and devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran, having been involved in many church activities. She was also a volunteer for Hospice and as “Grandma Dorothy” at Kennedy Elementary School in Willmar.

Birthdays, reunions, Christmas’ and other family events were extremely important to her. She always made time and traveled many miles to attend grandchildren’s concerts, sports and other activities. Dorothy taught her family many things, but faith in God and willingness to trust God's will was her most important legacy.

Surviving are her husband, Alvin of Willmar; daughters, Elaine (and Charles) Johnson of Princeton; Joann (and David) Sorenson of Appleton; Lois (and Roger) Koosmann of Spicer; Linda (and Mark) Opsahl of Elk River; 16 grandchildren, 13 great – grandchildren; her brother, Virgil (and Clarice) Stock of Appleton and brother-in-law, Loren (and Phyllis) Harste of Appleton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, great granddaughter, two sisters, and two brothers.

Leona B. Hanson age 85, of Belgrade, died Wednesday morning, October 17, 2007, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers memorial are suggested to Crow River Lutheran Church or Leukemia research fund of University of MN.

Leona B. (Lawrence) was born on November 2, 1921 in Volin South Dakota, the daughter of David O. and Alice (Ellingson) Lawrence. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith as a child at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls South Dakota. She attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls and later graduated from Volin High School in Volin, South Dakota. On August 9, 1942 Leona was united in marriage to Ernest Hanson at Sault Ste Marie Michigan. Two boys and two girls were born to this union. After their marriage Leona lived in Canton South Dakota with Ernest’s family until he returned from the war. When Ernest returned in 1946 they moved to Harrisburg, South Dakota and made their home there until 1955 when the family moved to the farm in Colfax Township. Leona helped farm and made a wonderful home for her family. On June 16, 2001 Ernest passed away, together they enjoyed 59 years of marriage.

Leona was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls South Dakota while she lived in South Dakota and later a member of Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. She was very active in both congregations, participating in the Ladies Aide and the WELCA. Leona was a member of the VFW Post #1825 Ladies Auxiliary, and of the Rose Bud Garden Club.

Leona and Ernest Volunteered as 4-H leaders and foster parents caring for 23 foster children from 1963 to 1977. They enjoyed square dancing as members of the Bonanza Stars Square dance club and wintering in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her apple trees. But above all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Leona B. (Lawrence) Hanson died on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville at the age of 85.

She is survived by her children, Jan Hanson of Golden Valley, Deb (Bruce) Klaassen of Willmar, John (Mary Kay) Hanson of Eden Valley; grandchildren, Josh Klaassen of Willmar, Erin Klaassen of Clara City, Sarah (Matt) Nelson of Plymouth, Emily (Matt) Lawin of Minnetonka; great-grandchildren, Haley and Samantha Klaassen, and Carter Lawin. She is also survived by her sisters, Arlene (Arnold) Warner of Bella Vista, AR, Verna (Claude) VanDriel of Luverne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; son, David; parents, David O. and Alice Lawrence; brothers, Clifford, Leland, Ellsworth, and David O. Jr. Lawrence.

Vicki Peterson, 60, of Willmar, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at her home. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one our prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Margrethe Vicki Lynn was born September 4, 1947, in Fargo, North Dakota, the daughter of Charles and Margrethe (Fagerlie) Dunnweber. In 1949, her family moved to Morgan, Minnesota where she went to elementary school and graduated from Morgan High School in 1965. She continued her education at Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis and received her medical secretary certificate. She began working for the Medical Arts Building in Minneapolis. On May 4, 1967, she was united in marriage to John Peterson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan. Following their marriage, they lived in Richfield and Eagan. John died on August 23, 1971 and Vicki moved to Willmar. She held various jobs in the area, including many years at Heart Warming Gifts and most recently at Schwegman’s Cleaners.

She was baptized in Fargo and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan. Vicki was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church where she was active with the library guild and was in a circle.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey of Morris; sister, Charlene (and Sid) Smith of Willmar; brother, Charles (and Sandra) Dunnweber of Elgin, IL;

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, and parents, Walter and Margrethe Drusch.

Craig S. “Louie” Christianson 55, of Willmar, died on Saturday October 13, at Rice Care Center. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Monday, October 22nd at Calvary Lutheran Church. Private family interment will be at Vikor Cemetery rural Willmar. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 until 6 pm at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, with a time of sharing at 6 pm. The visitation will continue on Monday 1 hour prior to the services at the church.

Craig Steven Christianson was born on August 31, 1952, in Willmar, Minnesota, one of seven children born to Maynard L. and Alice Jean (Reese) Christianson. He grew up in Willmar where he attended Garfield Elementary and graduated from Willmar High School in 1970.

Craig was united in marriage, to Lois Patzoldt and this union was blessed with three children. Following their marriage they lived in the New London and Willmar communities. Craig was one of the founders of Christianson Brothers Construction where he worked construction and later worked as a mason. He also was a musician playing lead guitar and vocals in numerous bands for over 30 years including, TASZ, Man Eye 3, Grey Steel, Freight, Time Piece, Mixx Up, Mile City Band, Saint Clair Louis Band and CC and the Lost Cause Band.

Craig’s family recalls his love of reading, hunting and most of all how proud he was of his children. He always had a passion for music, starting and playing in bands in the mid 60’s, holding the practices in the basement at the family home. Their house and neighborhood was always rocking. He was a self taught musician, never reading music, but was blessed with the ability to hear a song and then to play and sing it.

Surviving are his children, Kyle Christianson, New London, Ashley Christianson and Felicia Christianson, both of Willmar; grandson Ethan; his mother, Alice Jean Asche, Spicer; siblings, Doreen (and John) Magnuson, Willmar; John (and Sandy) Christianson, St. Cloud; Alyce (and Jerry) Miley, Avon; Ron (and Jeanine) Christianson, Kevin Christianson and Todd (and Lisa) Christianson all of Willmar. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard L. Christianson and his nephew, Jay Magnuson.

Earl V. Peterson age 90, of New London, died on Thursday evening, October 11, 2007, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London. Burial will be in the church cemetery.Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Earl Victor Peterson was born on October 13, 1916 on the family farm in Lake Andrew Township, the son of Emil and Anna Peterson. He died on Thursday night, October 11, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. He attained the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 28 days.

Earl grew up on the family farm and attended school in District #108. He was baptized at Lake Florida Mission Church and confirmed at Lebanon Lutheran Church in New London.

On June 9, 1945 he was united in marriage to Eldora Anderson at Tripolis Lutheran Church by Kandiyohi. They made their home for 62 years on their farm in Lake Andrew Township.

Earl farmed for over 30 years. In 1975 he began working as a custodian for the Willmar Public Schools retiring in 2002. He began working at the Shores of St. Andrew Bible Camp near New London in the early 1970’s, continuing until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Lake Andrew Township Board for 30 years, serving as chairman for several years. He was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church where he was on the church council and an usher. He later became a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake where he served on various committees.

Earl is survived by his wife, Eldora; daughters Nancy Brandt Salmi of Grand Rapids; Mary (and Roger) Jeseritz of Kerkhoven; Lorna Peterson of Willmar; Helen (and Steve) Gronli of New London; son, Richard (and Mona) Peterson of New London; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mercedes Peterson and Fern Ristow both of Willmar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, 3 sisters, 2 sons-in-law, and 1 nephew.

Albert “Butch” Snyder age 50 of Brooklyn Center, formerly of Belgrade, died October 3, 2007 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 13, 2007 at Gausdal Lutheran Church in rural New London. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.

Albert LeRoy "Butch" Snyder was born December 14, 1956 in Paynesville, Minnesota, the son of Raymond and Hazel (Strand) Snyder. He was baptized December 30, 1956 at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade.His family moved to Minneapolis when he was a young boy and he attended elementary and High School in northeast Minneapolis. As a young adult he started driving truck for his fathers' company (Ger-Ray Trucking) and continued driving for several years. Later on in life he went to work for Twin City Concrete and was there for 15 years.Butch returned to the area often where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an avid hunter and fisherman- a true sportsman at heart.

Butch died Wednesday evening, October 3 2007 at HCMC in Minneapolis at the age of 50, surrounded by friends and family. He is survived by his son, Michael; mother, Hazel of Minneapolis; brother, Raymond (Barbara) Snyder of Brooklyn Center; niece Linda (Richard) Nelson and children of Dawson; and nephew John Paul Snyder and children of Dawson; along with several cousins, family, and friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his father Ray in 1994, sisters Linda in 1964 and Teresa, Mary, and Arvilla in infancy; brothers, Joseph and Albert in infancy; and his grandparents.

Margaret Sonstegard, age 85 of Paynesville, died Friday afternoon, October 5, 2007 at her home. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday October 9, 2007 at the Paynesville Lutheran Church. Vistitation will Monday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Paynesville Lutheran Church and also one hour prior to the service. A Private Family burial will be held Monday at Paynesville Cemetery.

She is survived by children, Judie (Harry) Buerman of Medford, Jean Wentzel of Florida, James (Kathy) Sonstegard of California and Janet Sonstegard of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by Husband, Oleen Sonstegard.

Arrangements are the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Richard Saulsbury, age 52 of Murdock died on Friday, October 5, 2007 at his home in Murdock, after a 2 year battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 10:30 am on Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Murdock. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Murdock and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers. Richard Michael Saulsbury was born on January 26, 1955 in Appleton , Minnesota , the son of Ken and Gerda (Larson) Saulsbury. He attended elementary school in Appleton and moved with his family to Willmar . He graduated from Willmar High School in 1973. After high school Rick worked for the S&F Supply Furniture store. He helped his Dad with his plumbing business and also worked in house painting.
on August 8, 1979 he married Jane Miller in Watertown , South Dakota . The couple returned to Willmar and where Rick worked at S & F Supply. In 1988 the family moved to Murdock where he was employed at Dooleys Petroleum, then as a custodian at KMS Elementary. He helped Jane with the family Daycare business and in 1995 he took over the daycare by himself. He retired in December of 2006 due to his health.

Rick was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton and confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar . He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Murdock where he taught Sunday school, served on church council and ushered. He was a 4-H adult leader and played on the Murdock horseshoe league.

Rick enjoyed being with his family, watching birds and looking for deer, playing horseshoes, NASCAR races,doing crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, cryptoquips, and bonfires. He loved to paint and painted many sawblades, pictures and murals for everyone he loved. Rick will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his continuous good mood. He was often heard singing, humming or whistling, or playing his albums loud enough for the neighbors to hear. Rick really enjoyed children and the children enjoyed him just as much.

Rick is survived by his wife Jane Saulsbury of Murdock; parents: Ken and Gerda Saulsbury of Willmar; three daughters: Amanda (Mike) Berg of Carver, MN, Tobia Saulsbury (Brandon Smith) of Willmar, Dorothy Saulsbury of Murdock; two grandchildren: Savannah Berg and Malakye Bonham; brothers, Bob (Jan) Saulsbury of Spicer, Lonnie (Donna) Saulsbury of Albertville; and sister: Bonnie (Peter) McKenzie of Willmar.

Rick was preceded in death by his daughter Abby Marie and by his brother Ed.
Paula (Boland) Pauling, age 51 of Maynard, died on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer . Funeral services will be 1:30 pm on Wednesday at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City . Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Clara City Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Paula Sue (Boland) Pauling was born on July 24, 1956, in Baton Rouge , Louisiana , the daughter of Henry and Florence (Pratt) Boland. She grew up in Baton Rouge where she attended Glen Oaks High School graduating in the class of 1974.

Paula was united in marriage to David Pauling on July 10, 1982 in Tampa , Florida .

Paula worked outside the home in office administrative positions throughout her life at various schools, Churches and businesses in Baton Rouge,La.; Tampa, Florida; Mt. Carmel and Munster, Indiana; Mobile, Alabama; Omaha, Nebraska and Plymouth, MN.

The couple moved to their home in rural Maynard in August of 2000. Paula began taking classes at Ridgewater College in Willmar . She received an Associates of Applied Science degree graduating with highest honors in May 2004. She became a Registered Health Information Technician and in 2004 began working for the Swift County-Benson Hospital where she was currently working.

Paula was baptized and confirmed at Fairfields Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, La. She was an active member of Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. She was also a member of the Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT), and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Paula enjoyed watching her sons play sports, quilting, sewing, cooking, and was an avid reader. She loved being outdoors whether camping with her family in northern Minnesota or bicycling on one of her many biking trips. Her family will remember her willingness to always help others.

Paula died on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 51 years. She is survived by her husband David Pauling of Maynard; two sons: Aaron Pauling of Moorhead State University , Ethan Pauling of Maynard; parents Henry and Florence Boland of Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters, Kristy Boland of Phoenix, AZ, Sharon (Bruce) Netterville of Belden, Mississippi; and three nephews Joshua, Matthew, and Andrew.

Paula was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Lorraine (Tony) Felton, age 87 of New London, died Friday morning, October 5, 2007 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 11:00 Tuesday, at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church in rural New London. Burial will be following the service at Colfax Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue at the church one hour before the service.

Lorraine (Tony) Felton was born on May 15, 1920 on the family farm in Colfax Township of Kandiyohi County, the daughter of Peter and Cora (Hagen) Tangen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She grew up in Colfax Township, where she attended rural country grade schools. On August 8, 1942 she was united in marriage to Carlos Felton in Litchfield. To this union three daughters and two sons were born. Early in their marriage they made their home in St. Paul before moving to Willmar in 1949. They moved to the farm near Kandiyohi in 1968 where they lived until moving to New London in 1991. Lorraine worked for Somody Supply for 34 years before retiring in 1993.

Lorraine was member of Peace Lutheran Church but had also been active at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Quilters, East Norway Lake Quilters, Fraternal Order of Eagles and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Lorraine died on Friday morning, October 5, 2007 at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 87. She is survived by children, Sharon (Harlan) Meester of New London, Bruce (Rosemary) Felton of Apache Junction, AZ, Dee Dee (Bill) Johnson of Spicer, Dwight (Socorro) Felton of New London, and Janet Felton of Spicer; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruby Patterson of Oakdale, George (Norma) Tangen of New London and Doris (Jim) Madison of Willmar.

Preceding her in death were husband, Carlos in 1996; three brothers; one sister; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson

Geneva Ruud, 86, of Willmar, died Thursday, October 04, 2007 at Infinia at Willmar. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church Chapel in Willmar. Burial will be in the Lake Lillian Community Cemetery. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Geneva was born on August 26, 1921, in East Lake Lillian Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar and Hannah (Gunderson) Ruud. She attended District 81 in East Lake Lillian Township and graduated from Bird Island High School in 1939. She continued her schooling at Hutchinson Normal Teacher’s Training, completing her coursework in 1940. She taught for 5 years before having to retire due to health reasons.

She was baptize and confirmed at First Lutheran in Lake Lillian where she was active in Luther League.

Surviving are her brother, Royce (and Norma) Ruud of Willmar; sister-in-law, Margaret Ruud of Lake Lillian, two nieces and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Ruud.

Delmar Bratsch, 85, of Willmar, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at New Ulm Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, October 6th, at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services will at the church on Saturday.

Delmer was born on July 18, 1922, in Renville County, Minnesota the son of Karl and Catherine (Flannigan) Bratsch. He attended country school for his education. Following his schooling, he worked for Blue Diamond Hatchery, National Youth Administration, farmed and was a lumberjack.

On February 21, 1944, he was united in marriage to Tina Ruter in Willmar. They lived in Willmar and Delmer worked for the City of Willmar as Chief Engineer at the power plant. He retired in 1982 after 38 ½ years of service.

He was a member of First Covenant Church where he served as an usher for over 25 years and helped with the lawn care for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Tina; children, Delmer Bratsch of Annandale; Larry (and Myrna) Bratsch of Buffalo; Kathy (and Steve) Christensen of New Ulm; Marty (and Donna) Bratsch of Little Falls; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and his sister, Adella Kuhn of Minneapolis.

His parents, nine brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

 

Bernice L Cumber age 93, of Paynesville died on Tuesday morning, October 2, 2007 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Interment will be at Burr Oak Cemetery in rural Paynesville. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bernice Lucille (Peterson) Cumber was born on September 5, 1914, on the family farm in the Union Grove Township, the daughter of Andrew and Phebe (Flanders) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed as a child at Union Grove Methodist Church. Bernice received her education at District 36 Country School and Grove City High School.

In 1939, she was united in marriage to David Cumber at the Peterson family farm. One son and one daughter were born to this union. Bernice and David took over her family farm in 1942. They continued to farm until 1972 when they moved to the “Hobby Farm” to retire. On May 26, 1993, David passed away. Together, they shared in 54 years of marriage. After David’s death, Bernice moved to the Green Wing Apartment Complex in Grove City until April of 2007 when she moved to Koronis Manor.

Bernice was a member of Union Grove Methodist Church and later Grace United Methodist Church. She was a member of the SWAPS Club of the Union Grove Methodist Church. She was a member of the adult Sunday School, women’s circle and always available to volunteer for any event. Bernice enjoyed crocheting, was a good cook and a very hard working lady.

Bernice Lucille Cumber died on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at Koronis Manor in Paynesville, at the age of 93. She is survived by her children, Gary (Fay) Cumber of St. Louis Park, Donna (Douglas) Haagenson of Grove City; grandchildren, Debra Kummet of Eden Valley, Juliet (Bryan)Brutger of rural Paynesville, Amanda Ellevold of Eden Valley; 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Phebe; husband, David; brothers, Lloyd and Russell Peterson and great granddaughter, DeAnn.

Norman Peterson, age 69 of New London, died Tuesday morning, October 2, 2007 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday October 5, 2007 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 8:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to the services. Arrangements are pending with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Norman Elroy Peterson was born on July 6, 1938, in New London, the son of Ole and Marie (Anderson) Peterson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Nordland Lutheran Church. He grew up in New London where he attended elementary and high school, graduating in 1956. At the age of 12, he began working at The Big Store in New London as a stock boy and eventually became manager and owner. On August 2, 1970, Norm was united in marriage to Helen Walquist at the Presbyterian Church of Spicer. They made their home in New London. Norm retired in December of 2006, after 55 years.Norm was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the Memorial Trust Fund Board. He was also active in the New London community, serving on the City Council, Commercial Club, New London Housing Committee, New London Investment Club and Sibley State Park Improvement Association. He served in the National Guard and was a member of the New London American Legion.

Norm enjoyed antique cars and served as a board member of New London to New Brighton Antique Car Club. He also completed all 16 attempts to make the drive with his antique car. One of Norm’s passions in life was for helping children through the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop #228 for 29 years. Under his leadership, 37 scouts received the Eagle Scout Award. Through his service to his church and community, he was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, The Lamb Award from the Lutheran Council and the WCCO Good Neighbor Award.

Norm died on October 2, 2007 at GlenOaks Nursing Home at the age of 69, with his wife, Helen by his side. He is survived by his wife, Helen; sister, Ruth (Ken) Gjerde of Spicer; nephew, Eric Gjerde of Iowa City, IA; niece, Erica (Erik) Achman of Annandale; mother-in-law, Elsie Walquist of New London; sister and brothers-in-law, Elaine Peterson, Alice (Robert) DeGrote, Dorothy (Byron) Klemmetson, Judy (Jim) Braeger, Leonard (Gwen) Walquist and Robert (Norma) Walquist and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Russell Peterson.
