Obituaries September-October 2006
Florence Spletter 90, of Willmar died on Monday at Infinia at Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church Chapel. Interment will be Oakland Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call on Thursday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Florence Marion (Holmgren) was born on February 16, 1916, at Lafayette, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Gustafson) Holmgren. She grew up in the Lafayette and later Raymond, Minnesota.

On May 27, 1933, Florence was united in marriage to Henry Spletter at Raymond, Minnesota. This union was blessed with four children. They farmed in the Willmar, Kerkhoven, Maynard, later moving to Lake Lillian and Hutchinson. Henry preceded her in death on April 10, 1964; Florence continued to live in Hutchinson until 1966, when she moved back to the Willmar community.

She was baptized in 1916 at Bernadette Lutheran Church, Lafayette and confirmed on April 13, 1930, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond and was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar at the time of her death.

Florence’s family recalls her hobbies of crocheting, making doilies, tableclothes and bedspreads. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She was a wonderful cook, sharing this gift with her daughters not only cooking with them but giving them many recipe books as gifts over the years. Florence looked forward to her grandchildren’s visits, playing games and cards with them. A childhood memory her children have, is how close Florence was to her siblings, sharing Christmas and birthdays with them. Her children were very close to her, sharing weekly visits, sharing coffee, and looking forward to their mother’s wonderful smile, something she never lost as her illness progressed.

Surviving are her daughters, Sharalyn (and Dennis) Flann, Lake Lillian; and Janet (and Bill) Seefeldt, Dassel; 7 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Doris (and Harvey) Goldenstein, Kerkhoven, and Myrt Johnson, Willmar.

In addition to her husband, Henry, Florence was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, three sisters, and two daughters.

  Howard G. Oslund, age 87 of Willmar and Northfield, died on Friday, October 27, 2006 at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, Minnesota. Memorial service will be 2:30 pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Howard Gustav Oslund was born on January 25, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Tillie (Christiansen) Oslund. The family moved to the Willmar area where he attended Ringo Lake School.

In December of 1942 he entered the United States Navy Air Force during WWII where he was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received an Honorable Discharge in September of 1945. Howard was united in marriage to Inez Carlson on February 7, 1945 in Mount Vernon, Washington. The couple lived in Washington where Howard farmed. In 1951 the family moved to Willmar where he went to classes and started working for the Willmar Power Plant as a Steam Engineer. In May of 1963 he went to St. Olaf College where he worked as Chief Engineer at the St. Olaf College Power Plant, retiring in 1983.

Howard liked to fish, hunt and play golf. He enjoyed music and liked to sing and played guitar in his youth. His family will miss his bright sense of humor.

Howard and Inez spent the winter months in Yuma, Arizona for 16 years. In 2002 they moved from Northfield back to Willmar. Due to declining health, Howard entered the Rice Care Center in Willmar and in August 2006 moved to St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Howard died on Friday, October 27, 2006 at St Lucas Health Care Center in Faribault at the age of 87 years.

He is survived by his wife Inez Oslund of Northfield; sons: Clifford Oslund of Northfield, Stanley Oslaund of St. Paul, and David Oslund of New Castle, Wyoming; two granddaughters: Jessica (Shawn) Bonds of Oregon, and Jill (Pat) Condon of Northfield; and two great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his brother, Dick (Vi) Oslund of Riverview, Michigan; sister Ellen (David) Hestad of Prior Lake, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, and two brothers.

  Mabel S. Johnson, 108, died, Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral services will 10:30 am, Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the nursing home. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Mabel was born on November 4, 1897, in Fosston, MN, the daughter of Gulbran and Elsie (Erickson) Myhre. She was raised in Fosston where she graduated from high school. She continued her education at St. Paul Hospital nurses training, graduating in 1920. She worked during the worst flu epidemic in United States history, caring for the nurses who became sick caring for others. On December 28, 1935, Mabel was united in marriage to Fritz Johnson in Rockford, IL. They lived there until 1947 when they moved to Willmar. She was nurse for many years at Rice Memorial Hospital, Christian Nursing Home (now Rice Care Center) and GlenOaks Nursing Home in New London, retiring in 1972. Fritz preceded her in death in 1981. She had been a resident of Bethesda Heritage Center belonging to the Red Hat Society there. She was active with the Senior Citizens and a RN Club.

She was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fosston and was a member of First Covenant Church in Willmar. She was active with the orcas Circle and Keenagers.

Survived by nieces and nephews and many friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Ronald A. Neuhaus, age 58 of Paynesville formerly of Willmar, died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Infinia Care Center in Willmar, after suffering from a hemorrhagic stroke on September 25. Memorial service will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Ronald Allan Neuhaus was born on November 26, 1947 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Laura (Larson) Neuhaus. He grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson High School in the class of 1965. He attended St. Cloud State University and received a Bachelors Degree in Art in 1970. Ron was united in marriage to Paulette K. Birch in Benson. The couple lived in various areas of Wisconsin, Colorado, and Minnesota where Ron taught high school art and also worked in sales. They moved to Willmar in 1987 and had lived in Paynesville for the past four years.

Ron was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Ronald was active in church choir, Paynesville Lions Club and Koronis Lake Association.

Ron enjoyed being outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, gardening, watching wildlife, like birds and squirrels or visiting the mountains in Colorado. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and granddaughters. Ron’s true love was art and teaching art. He made many pottery and jewelry pieces and had even designed and made their wedding bands. His family will miss his cooking, and the many things he would prepare from scratch.

Ron died on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Infinia Care Center in Willmar, after suffering from a hemorrhagic stroke on September 25at the age of 58. He is survived by his wife Paulette of Willmar; daughters: Leah (Rick) Meyer of Big Lake, Dena Neuhaus of Denver, CO, and Haylee Neuhaus of Mankato; and granddaughters: Alyssa and Anika Meyer; brothers and sisters: Donald (Ardis) Neuhaus of Benson, LuVerne Neuhaus of Grand Terrace, CA, Duane (Doris) Neuhaus of Benson, Beverly (James) Mead of Minnetonka; and brother-in-law Charles (Rita) Connelly of Benson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Connelly.

Richard “Bucky”Kallevig 54, of Tomah, Wisconsin and formerly of Willmar, died on Sunday October 22, 2006, at the Tomah VA Hospital following a short battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Tuesday October 31, 2006, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church; interment will be at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services at the church. Local arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.

Richard Stanley “Bucky”Kallevig was born on May 6th 1952, the son Stanley and Sylvia (Grahn) Kallevig. After high school he served in the US Army and the National Guard. He worked for Bethesda Homes and Stacy’s Nursery before moving to Tomah, Wisconsin. While living in Tomah he worked for the VA Golf Course and ACE Taxi Service.

Surviving is his brother, Ronald (and Beverly) Kallevig of Willmar; sister, JoAnn (and Richard) Gehrke of Monticello and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Warren and one brother in infancy

Merlin M. Miller, of Maynard, died Monday, October 23, 2006 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 27, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Burial will be in Buffalo Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural DeGraff. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Merlin was born on March 27, 1925, near Sanborn, MN, the son of Lyman and Vernie (and Kyar) Miller. They lived in the Springfield area where he attended country school. In 1944, the family moved to the Maynard area. After his schooling, Merlin helped his father with farming and their livestock trucking. On June 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Viola Tomschin at the Kerkhoven Lutheran Church parsonage. Following their marriage, they lived in the Maynard area until 1952 when they moved to the DeGraff area. In 1958, they moved to their current home. He retired from farming and their dairy operation in 1986.

Surviving are his wife, Viola; children, Nancy (and Charles) Anderson of Rice; Jerry (and Karol) Miller of Smartsville, CA; Rodney (and Barb) Miller of Raymond; Kathy (and Eldon) Mahlum of Kerkhoven; Linda (and Kevin) Korn of Garretson, SD; Eric (and TerryJo) Miller of Clara City; Mark (and Kim) Miller of Clara City; 22 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Terry in 1987.

John C. Lepler 94 of New London passed away Friday, October 20, 2006, at the Glenoaks Care Center in New London. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London, with Rev. Kathy Hartley officiating. Interment will be held at Lebanon Cemetery in New London. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

John Claus Lepler was born on June 25, 1912 in Clara City, the son of John and Justine (Niemeyer) Lepler. He grew up in the Clara City area where he attended school. In June of 1939 he was united in marriage to Harriet Holm. To this union one son and one daughter were born. They made their home in New London where John owned and operated the Holm Our Own Hardware Store for 68 years. He retired in 1980. Together Harriet and John were able to share in 41 years of marriage before Harriet’s death in January of 1981. On December 26, 1982, John was united in marriage to Ilo Nepsund. They made their home in New London where they enjoyed retirement together.

John was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he held many church offices through the years. He also belonged to many clubs and organizations and was a generous supporter of the community, having donated land for the Senior Citizen building in New London and lakeshore property for parks in the area.

John died on Friday morning, October 20, 2006 at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife, Ilo Lepler of New London; one son, Bruce (and Diane) Lepler of Metairie, LA; step-children, LuAnn (and Leslie) Dengerud of Big Lake and Curt (and Jan) Nepsund of Maple Grove; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, August Lepler of Arizona and one sister, Violet Thorkelson of Granite Falls.

John was preceded in death by his first wife, Harriet; daughter, Judy; and parents, John and Justine.

Mildred C. Nordberg, age 88 of Willmar, died on Monday, October 23, 2006 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am on Thursday at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with a 7pm Prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mildred Catherine Nordberg was born on March 18, 1918 in St. Leo, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Bofenkamp) Nosbusch. She lived Munich, North Dakota where she graduated from Munich High School in 1938. She lived in Devils Lake, North Dakota, and later moved to California.

On February 27, 1943 she was united in marriage to Harry Nordberg in the Catholic Mission Church in San Raphael, CA. Following their marriage they lived in Redwood City, California moving to Willmar in 1945.

Harry co-owned and operated Downtown TV in Willmar for 36 years.
Harry died on September 9, 1998.

Mildred was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith and was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing and gardening both vegetables and flowers. Mildred also liked to play cards and board games (chess and checkers).

She is survived by her sons: James (Teresa) Nordberg of Fall River, MA and John (Jennifer) Nordberg of Brooklyn Center in; five grandchildren: Kenneth (Mary Beth) Bazinet Elizabth (Daniel) Moriarty, Greg Bazinet, Christian Nordberg and Marin Nordberg; 3 great-grandchildren.

J Rambow J Stevenson Rambow 16, of New London, died on Sunday morning at Rice Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London with interment in Lebanon Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 until 8 pm at Peace Lutheran Church and on Thursday 1 hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

J Stevenson Rambow was born on September 26, 1990, the son of Steven and Janae (Sandbo) Rambow. He grew up in the New London area attending Prairie Woods for elementary schooling and was a sophomore at the New London –Spicer High School. J played basketball and baseball for the New London Schools and also participated in summer VFW baseball.

J worked at the Big Kauna, helping with the Go-Karts.

He was baptized in November 1990 and confirmed in October 2005, and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church at the time of his death. He was active in the Senior High DIG.


Surviving are his parents, Steve and Janae Rambow; brother, S Scott, at home. Also surviving are his grandparents, Alice Sandbo, Willmar and Glen and Signe Rambow, Raymond.

He was preceded in death great grandparents; grandfather Johnny Sandbo; and sister, Stefanee Janae, on December 21, 1993.

Archie L. Bowman 72, Kerkhoven died on Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church in Kerkhoven. Private family interment will be at Frank Lake Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home Kerkhoven Chapel, and on Wednesday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Archie Lee Bowman was born on May 10, 1934, in Swift County, Minnesota the son of Walter and Lottie (Oles) Bowman. He grew up in Six Mile Grove Township where he started his school. Their family later moved to H ayes Township, where he completed his schooling.

On October 1, 1960, Archie was united in marriage to Sharon Carlson at Frank Lake Covenant Church. This union was blessed with five children. They farmed in rural Murdock where Archie also worked as a Blacksmith. In 1981 he retired from farming but continued to work as a Blacksmith until 2004, when due to his health he retired. He has been a resident at Bethesda Plesantview since January 2006.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at the time of his death.

Surviving is his wife, Sharon; children, Marlycs (and Keith) Van Heuveln, Kerkhoven, Sherrie McCoy, Kerkhoven, Stacie (and Jim) Feldman, Murdock, Kevin (and Kim) Bowman, Kerkhoven, and Jon ( and Jeanine) Bowman, Sunburg; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Luella Kugath 93, of Willmar and formerly of Watertown, Minnesota, She was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Rice Care Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Watertown. Interment will be in the Community Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Luella Emilia Lena (Grimm) was born on January 28, 1913, at Waconia, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman H. and Mina A. (Hasse) Grimm. She grew up in Carver County, attending Trinity Lutheran School in Watertown for her education.

On June 4, 1935, Luella was united in marriage to Henry Kugath at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia. This union was blessed with three children. They farmed near Watertown and Henry preceded her in death in August 1973. Following his death Luella worked as a cook at St. Paul’s School in Watertown. She moved to Willmar in 1991.

While living in Watertown Luella was active with the Senior Citizens.

She was baptized in March 1913, and confirmed on May 8, 1927 at Waconia. While living in the Watertown area she was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She had been active with the ladies aid, quilting for Lutheran World Relief. While living in Willmar, Luella was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and had been active with the ladies aid, and helped minister to the shut-ins.

. Surviving are her daughters; Carolyn Goldfish, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Bernice (and Roy) McClain, Willmar, and daughter-in-law and her husband Marva (and Rev. Roger) Janke, Oak Creek, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Henry, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister; son Gerald, and son-in-law, Rev. Stan Goldfish.

 

 

Gene Doesken, 53, of Cottage Grove, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at his home following an illness. He was employed by the City of Mpls. Gene was born on August 25, 1953, in Willmar the son of Marvin and Gail (Carlson) Doesken. He attended Willmar schools graduating in 1971.

Gene worked at Champlin Café, Grumpies Cove, South Highway #71 and 7, and later drove for Raymond Transfer and Minnesota Express. In 1982, Gene moved to Minneapolis and was employed by the City of Minneapolis as a driver and trainer in the Trucking and Equipment Service Division.

He was baptized and confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church.

Gene was a member of Teamster #544, Willmar and Teamster #320, Minneapolis.

He loved his cocker spaniels Colby and Mattie. Gene enjoyed watching sports, football and baseball. His hobbies included deer hunting and fishing. He was also working on restoring his 1975 Chevelle, Laguna.

Surviving his wife Arlene Heuer, children Sarah and Dan Heuer, parents, Marvin and Gail Doesken, Willmar; sister, Jan Hood, Spicer, 2 nieces, 3 nephews; 2 great nephews and 1 great niece,

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother Bruce Doesken in October 2001.

Sarah Pearl Hayunga, 95, of Clara City, died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the Clara City Care Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 19, 2006, at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm, with family present from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Harvey Anderson Clara City Funeral Home.

Sarah Pearl Hayunga was born on August 16, 1911, near Clara City, the daughter of William and Winnie (Kray) Andresen. She grew up in the Clara City area and attended Clara City High School. She was united in marriage to Ted Hayunga on January 14, 1932, at her parent’s home. The couple farmed west of Clara City and retired to their home in Clara City where Pearl worked part time at the Variety Supply Company. Following Ted’s death in 1975, Pearl moved to Prairie Park Place and spent her last years at the Clara City Care Center.

Sarah was a member of Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City where she was a life time member of Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Garden Club and Homemakers Club. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her positive cheerfulness and desire to take care of others shall be remembered.

Sarah is survived by her sons: Dale (and Ainez) Hayunga of Cushing, MN, Delroy (and Jean) Hayunga of Carmel, CA; seven grandchildren: Tammi, Dorothy, Laurie Ann, Brenda, Grant, Blake, and Maya; 16 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marge Andresen of El Paso, Texas, and Andrea Andresen Geiger, a special niece whom she cared for as an infant.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Fred and Andres and sister Gepke, at the age of ten months.

Richard Angel Olson, 82, of Willmar, died on Monday October 16, 2006 at his home. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church with interment at Cloverleaf Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 until 6 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Richard Angel Olson was born on July 9, 1924, at Georgeville, Minnesota, the son on Rasmus and Agnes (Sonstegard) Olson. He grew up in the Georgeville area where he attended his schooling. In 1946, Richard moved to Willmar and worked as a carpenter for Edmund Swanson.

On May 21, 1949, Richard was united in marriage to Helen Anderson at Dassel, Minnesota. This union was blessed with five children. Richard continued to work with Edmund Swanson until 1961 when he went to work for Somody Supply as a carpenter and later helped with custodial work, retiring in 1996.

He was baptized and later confirmed on December 1, 1940, at Gausdal Lutheran Church and was a member of Calvary Lutheran in Willmar at the time of his death. Richard served as an usher, greeter and was active with NTY.

He was a member of Blomkest Sportsman Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE 2334.

His family recalls Richard’s love of fishing, especially ice fishing. Their family enjoyed renting a cabin for many years at Nevis, Minnesota as the children were growing and later camping there. They enjoyed celebrating the holidays together and a meal Richard was always ready to eat no matter what the occasion was Lutefisk. Richard and Helen continued to camp after the children left home and were members of Glacial Trail Camping Club. Richard looked forward to going to his grandchildren’s events. He liked to snowmobile, visit and have coffee, always introducing himself as Richard Olson and asking if you have meet which ever family member that was with him.

Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; children, Sheila (and Steve) Scarrella, Woodbury, Douglas (and Rita) Olson, Tucson, AZ, James (and Shirley) Olson, New London, Bruce Olson, Rosemount, and Michelle (Brad) Fostervold, Kandiyohi; six grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Lawrence Olson, Fountain Hills, AZ, Silas (and Marlys) Olson, Grand Rapids, and Ella Erickson, Willmar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Henry, Swen, Alfred and George; and two sisters, Clara and Evie.

Ronald D. McLouth, 69, of Willmar, died Monday, October 16, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 20, 2006 at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Ronald was born on June 20, 1937, in Colfax Township, Kandiyohi County, MN, the son of Duane and Eunice (Johnson) McLouth. He lived and was raised in New London where he graduated from high school in 1956. On November 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to, his high school sweetheart, Carolyn A. Beck at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church, rural New London. Following their marriage, they lived in New London until 1963 when they moved to Willmar. He worked for MeGarry Brothers Construction of St. Cloud from 1952until 1963 when he began working at the power plant for Willmar Municipal Utilities, retiring in 1995. After retiring from the power plant, he worked part-time for Perkins Lumber Company.

He was baptized and confirmed at New London Covenant Church and was a member of First Covenant Church in Willmar. He had served as a trustee, bus driver, was on the Building and Grounds Commission and sang in the choir.

His family recalls Ron’s interests in black powder hunting, fishing and woodcarving. He enjoyed traveling, story telling and carpentry, being a handyman. His fondest and most precious memories were the times he could spend with his grandsons.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Carolyn; daughter, Debra McLouth of Minneapolis; son, Mark (and Jolanda) McLouth of Ft. Meade, Maryland; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexander and Nickolaus. Also surviving are his sister, Betty (and Craig) Nelson of Spring Park; brother, Neil (and Sheila) McLouth of Forest Lake; mother-in-law Gladys A. Beck of Willmar; brother-in-law, Roger (and Carol) Beck of Sunburg and sister-in-law, Kathy (and Barry) Carlson of Willmar.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

William R. Henke, 73, of Spicer, died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at his home. Funeral services will be
10:30 am, Monday, October 9, 2006 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial with Military Honors will be at 2:30 pm, Monday at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Wabasso. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

William “Bill”was born on June 19, 1933, in Redwood County, MN, the son of Julius and Hulda (Doose) Henke. He attended his schooling in Redwood Falls, graduating from high school in 1951. During his high school years, he began his career at JcPenney and enlisted into the United States National Guard. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served during the Korean Conflict, being discharged in 1955. Bill was united in marriage to Patricia Schultz on October 17, 1953 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon his discharge, he continued his education at Mankato State College, graduating in 1960 with a double major in Economics and Administration. During this time, he continued to work for JcPenney and eventually worked in the following communities: Redwood Falls and Mankato, MN; Sioux City, Council Bluffs Iowa; Elkhart, IN. He had been a manager in , Peru and Warsaw, Indiana for many years. Bill helped open the store in Warsaw. They having been living in Warsaw, IN and summering in Spicer, Minnesota.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, having been confirmed on Palm Sunday in 1947 by Rev. Ed Birkholz.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; daughter, Tonya (and Larry) Jakel of Cold Spring, MN; son, Troy Henke of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Joseph (and fiancée, Leah Schmitz), Justin, Jerod, Abigail and great-granddaughter, Erika. Also surviving are his sisters, Lucella Phillips of Willmar; Ardella Dickerson of Spicer and Adrian (and Royce) Day of Raymond.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Lou as a toddler.

Karen M. Theel age 53, of Paynesville passed away, Friday afternoon September 29, 2006, at the St. Cloud Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Friday, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville, with Rev. Rick Koehn officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Karen was born in Willmar on September 5, 1953, the daughter of Arnold and Alice (Hanson) Eastman. She attended Washington Elementary School in Willmar and graduated in 1971 from Paynesville High School. On July 22, 1972 Karen was united in marriage to Warren Theel at Calvary Baptist church in Paynesville. Two children where born to this union. She was later divorced. Karen was member of Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Her church was a very large part of her life. Karen loved music and was a member of the String O Pearls, The Directors Choir, she was on the music committee at Grace United Methodist Church, church pianist, and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by children, Jennifer Theel, of Paynesville, and Ryan Theel of Paynesville; parents, Arnold Eastman of Paynesville, and Alice Johnson of Lake Lillian; 2 grandchildren; brother, Wade (Donna) Eastman of Hutchinson.


Ronald W. Jacobson, 58, of Willmar, died Monday, October 2, 2006, at his home. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167 and VFW Post #1639 at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-9 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Ronald was born on September 6, 1948, the son of Harold and Myrtle (Westby) Jacobson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1967 and then entered the United States Army, serving two tours during the Vietnam War. He received the following medals and commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Air Medal. Following his discharge with full disability, he attended Willmar Vo-Tech. On June 18, 1988, he was united in marriage to Wilma “Robin”McMahon. They lived near Nest Lake before moving into Willmar in 1995.

Ron was an active member of Vietnam Vet’s Club-Last Man’s Club, Past Commander, current Post Chaplin and District Chaplin of VFW Post #1639, American Legion Post #167, DAV-West Central Chapter #34, Willmar Elks Lodge #952, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2234, Kandiyohi County Red Cross Disaster Team and Ham radio Operators. He was an extremely active member of Boy Scouts of America, having received the following; Silver Beaver Award, Wood Badge Award, District Award of Merit and a 30 year service pin.

Ron was baptized at Opdal Lutheran Church, rural Sacred Heart and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar where he had served as an usher.

Even though Ron was disabled, you never heard him complain. He lived today, not yesterday nor tomorrow. Ron will be remembered for his patience, generosity and support in helping others. He could always be seen at Red Cross Blood Drives, Boy Scout functions, the numerous organizations he helped and at church. He cared more for others than himself. He was never able to have children, but through Boy Scouts he had many children.

Surviving are his wife, Robin of Willmar; sisters, Linda Theessen of Mankato, MN; Bonnie (and Dave Cleveland) Ringwelski of Warner Robbins, GA and father-in-law, LeRoy McMahon of Durand, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers in infancy, and sister, Viona Sietsema.

  Roy W. Paglusch age 70 of Paynesville, died on Saturday night September 30, 2006, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
A Prayer Service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Roy William Paglusch was born on March 5, 1936 in Hancock, Minnesota, the son of Paul and Ida (Paulson) Paglusch. He grew up on the family farm and attended country grade school in the Hancock area. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at the Lutheran Church in Hancock. In 1965, Roy was united in marriage to Kathleen Forster. To this union one daughter and one son were born. They later divorced. Roy made his home in St. Cloud for the past twenty years where he worked for Frigidaire as a forklift operator. He retired in 2001 and moved to Paynesville in 2003.
Roy enjoyed fishing, especially with his grandson, playing his handgames of solitaire, and watching and listening to baseball and football on t.v. and radio.
Roy died on Saturday evening, September 30, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 70. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Bahner of Paynesville; son, Brian Paglusch of Paynesville; four grandchildren and one brother, Marvin Paglusch of Elmwood, WI.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Norton Pederson, age 64 of Willmar died on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at his home in Willmar. Service will be 11am, Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar with Rev. Tom Mundahl officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Norton Erling Pederson was born on June 28, 1942 in Barnesville, Minnesota, the son of Ernest and Cora (Walen) Pederson. The family lived in Arthur, North Dakota and in 1951 they moved to Cokato where Norton attended Cokato Elementary School. In 1957 they moved to Willmar and Norton graduated from Willmar High School in the class of 1960. He then attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter where he received his Bachelor's degree.


Norton then enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at
Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan. Norton received an Honorable
Discharge in 1967, returning to Willmar in 1972.

Norton was baptized in 1942 at Gran Lutheran Church in Barnsville and
confirmed his faith in 1956 at Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was currently a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar where he served for many years on Bethel's Mission Committee and served as chairman for a number of years.

Norton loved music and in his youth was active in high school and college choirs, and Barber Shop Chorus. He had an extensive collection of Jazz music that he loved to share with others and listen to on his state of the art stereo equipment. Norton was an avid sports fan and loved to watch and attend Twins games. He was also a strong supporter of high school sports; he was especially excited about Willmar's new Taunton Baseball Stadium. Norton also enjoyed playing Bridge and keeping current on all of the latest gadgets.

Norton's family remembers his generosity and how he would keep in touch with his friends, always sending birthday and Christmas cards.

On Saturday, September 30, 2006, Norton died at his home in Willmar. He is survived by his mother Cora Pederson of Willmar; sister Eileen (Carl) Lund of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; brother Barry (Terri) Pederson of Roseville; nieces: Erika Lund (Mark Andersen), Ilsa Lund (Brian Kraatz); Ingrid Pederson, Krista Pederson; great-nieces: Ella Lund Andersen and Lucy Lund Andresen.

Norton was preceded in death by his father.

Elmer D. “Pat”Patterson, 95 of Willmar, died on Thursday at Rice Care Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at United Methodist Church with interment will be at Roseville Cemetery, Hawick. Friends may call on Monday from 5 until 7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Tuesday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Elmer David “Pat”Patterson was born on June 1, 1911, in Mandan, North Dakota. As a young man he moved to Minneapolis.

He served in the US Navy during WWII and was a member of VFW Post #1639 of Willmar at the time of his death.

In 1948, Pat was united in marriage to Jeanette Welch in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis until 1953, when they moved to Willmar. He worked at Allstate Hatchery in the maintenance department. Pat did interior decorating, painting and papering for several years for homes built by Standard Lumber and UBC in the area, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Willmar for over 50 years. He served as an usher and greeter for many years.

His family recalls in the Pat talking about his Golden Glove Boxing days in the 40’s. He helped Jeannette with her many flower gardens, making many lawn crafts and ornaments to help highlight their yard. He was a good cook, making his own rotisserie for his grill. A special day was their 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration held at the church. They had a special love for each other, always greeting each other with a kiss. Pat loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting ducks, pheasants, and deer with his son Rick for over 40 years and later his grandson Adam, joining their deer hunting party.

On Thursday September 28, 2006, Elmer died at Rice Care Center at the age of 95 years. Surviving is his son, Richard (and Judy) Patterson, Buffalo; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Patterson, and his loving wife, Jeannette on September 17, 2005.

  Wilton Hedlof, 74, of Blomkest, died on Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at Svea Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, rural Blomkest. Friends may call on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.

Wilton Axel Hedlof was born December 22, 1931, in Kandiyohi County, the son of Axel T. and Thelma (Bengtson) Hedlof. He grew up in the Blomkest area where he attended his schooling. In 1939, Wilton moved into Blomkest. He worked as a laborer for Blomkest Fertilizer, retiring in 1994.

He was baptized in 1931 and confirmed in 1945 at Svea Lutheran Church.

Wilton enjoyed having coffee with his buddies; he enjoyed playing Chinese Checkers and pitching washers with his family. Over the years their family shared many family gatherings and picnics at the farm. Wilton was very meticulous about his yard, making sure it was mowed on a certain day and you could set your clock by when he would get his mail and do other tasks. Wilton was so proud of his new car, knowing that he was avoiding all the repairs he had with his old one.

Surviving is his brother, Mike (and Ruth) Hedlof of Stillwater and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen and brother, Kenneth.

Herman “Doc”Ahrenholz, 85, of Willmar, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, September 29, 2006 at Willmar Christian Reformed Church. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167 will be in Emden Cemetery, rural Renville. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Doc was born on December 31, 1920, in Renville, MN, the son of George and Gertie (Hoogerman) Ahrenholz. He was raised in Renville where he graduated from high school in 1938. He continued his education at National University of Health Sciences in Chicago, receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic. On October 11, 1940, he was united in marriage to Hattie Bakker in Raymond. Following their marriage, Doc finished his schooling and moved to Oakland, California and Doc worked in the shipyards until being drafted into the United States Army in 1944. After his discharge in 1946, they moved to Willmar and he purchased the Chiropractic Office of Dr. Coss. He retired in 1985. Doc and Hattie enjoyed spending many winters in Florida. Doc had recently been living at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar.

Doc was active in the Willmar community during the years having been a member and President of Willmar Opportunities Inc., President of Willmar Scholarship Association, Director of the Willmar Area Chamber of Commerce, Municipal Utilities Board Member, Salvation Army Campaign Executive Committee and Director of the Christian Rest Home. He also was President of the Minnesota Chiropractic Association and Trustee of National University of Health Sciences. He received the Chiropractor of the Year in 1961.

He was a member of Willmar Christian Reformed Church where he was a charter member, Sunday School Teacher and had served on the church council.

Surviving are his children, Diane (and Marlin) VanDenEinde of Sioux Falls, SD; Gerald (and Jeanne) Ahrenholz of Stoughton, WI; three grandchildren, Kathy (and Brett) Aamot of Willmar; Paul (and Monica) VanDenEinde of Andersonville, TN; Jeff (and Sue) VanDenEinde of Willmar; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Bria, Mariel, Gabryell, Ellie and Lexi. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Edith Ahrenholz of Willmar; Alvina Ahrenholz of Prinsburg and Thresa Berghuis of Prinsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hattie in 1995, children in infancy, Steven and Rosemary; brothers, Lubbert, Dick and Harold and sisters, Ella VanDenEinde and Grace Ahrenholz.

Raymond E. Hillstrom, 75, of Willmar, died on Sunday at Rice Memorial following a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday at Willmar Evangelical Free Church. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 until 7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Friday 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Raymond Elving Hillstrom was born May 16, 1931, at Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Paul and Emma (Ramsey) Hillstrom. When he was an infant their family moved to a farm near Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota. Ray attended Church Hill School for his elementary education and graduated from Willow River High School in 1948. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota graduating with his Bachelor’s degree in 1957 and his Master’s in 1963.

On June 22, 1957, Ray was united in marriage to Mary Thompson at Moose Lake, Minnesota. They moved to Willmar in 1958. This union was blessed with three daughters. Ray taught Agriculture and Shop at the Willmar Senior High School, retiring in 1993, after 35 years teaching. He also served as the FFA advisot for many years at the high school.

He served in the US Marine Corps being discharged on May 27, 1960.

Ray was a charter member of Willmar Evangelical Free Church. He had served as chairman, secretary and treasure of the Evangelical Free Church, taught Sunday School and served on the Board of Elders. Ray was also active with Sowers ( a volunteer Christian Ministry).

He was active with the Willmar Car Club, Central Minnesota Board of Education and Willmar Education Association, and served with Habitat for Humanity.

Surviving is his loving wife, Mary; daughters, Sharon (and Dean) Weflen, Hudsonville, MI; Sue (and Loren) Newberg, Willmar; and Cindy (and Kim) Greenwell, Wailuku, HI; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Daniel (and Marianne) Hillstrom, Plymouth, and Rev Dwight (and Edie) Hillstrom, Hudsonville, MI. Also surviving is his mother-in-law Pearl Robinson, Willmar; brothers and sisters- in-law, Gene (and Rosie) Thompson, Colorado Springs, CO; Sue Thompson, Kalispell, MT; Eileen (and Jim) Lundquist, Willmar; Duke (and Faythe) Thompson, Loveland, CO; and Linda (and Jim) Knutson, Savage, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Boyd Thompson.

Ruthann C. Aasen, age 62 of New London, died Sunday afternoon, September 17, 2006 at her home in rural New London. Funeral services will be 11:00, Wednesday at Crow River Lutheran Church in Rural New London, with Rev. Michael DeKraai and Rev. Catherine Rood officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5 to 8 on Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Ruthann C. Aasen was born on October 19, 1943, in the Colfax Township, to Casper and Ruth (Hanson) Hamborg. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith at Crow River Lutheran Church. Ruth attended Belgrade elementary and high school with the class of 62. In 1962 she was united in marriage to Harold Hegreberg, to this union 2 children where born. On July 30, 1981 she was united in marriage to Donovan Aasen, they made their home on Norway Lake for many years. Ruth was the architect of three homes in the area. She was an active member of Crow River Lutheran Church, a member and former chaplain for the VFW post #1639 in Willmar.
Ruth is survived by her husband Donovan Aasen; children, Robin Hegreberg, of Spicer, Chad (and Lori) Hegreberg, of Yor Balinda, CA; brothers, Ronald (and Betty) Hamborg, of Belgrade, and Orlyn, of Sunburg; sister Eunice (and Merven) Kuehn of Richfield; and 5 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; and 1 sister.

Verda Delgehausen, age 91 of Paynesville, died Friday afternoon, September 15, 2006 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at Paynesville Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jeff Bergman and Dave Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Orono Cemetery in Elk River. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Verda Mildred Delgehausen was born on May 22, 1915 on the family farm in Fairfield Township of Swift County, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Winkelman) Fischer. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith in St. John’s Lutheran Church near Holloway. She grew up on the family farm where she attended country school in district #51. On September 27, 1934, Verda was united in marriage to Albert W. Delgehausen in St. John’s Lutheran Church. They made their home and farmed for 10 years on the Degehausen family farm near Appleton. In 1946 they moved to Elk River, where Verda worked as a homemaker and for the Towne and Country Dress Shop. They moved to Paynesville in 1994 where they have lived since. Together, Verda and Albert were able to share in 64 years of marriage before Albert’s death on January 14, 1999.

Verda was a faithful and active member of Paynesville Lutheran Church, former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Appleton, and charter member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Elk River. Among the things she enjoyed were flower and vegetable gardening, reading, dancing, and artistic endeavors such as decorating her home, sewing, quilting, crocheting and craft projects. Her family remembers her fondness for life on the farm, great cooking, resourcefulness, deep and abiding commitment to Albert, love of children and grandchildren, and steadfastness in her faith.

She is survived by four children, Vivian (Bud) McMillan of Paynesville, Yvonne Sappenfield of Scottsdale, AZ, Inez Rydeen of Minneapolis and Dan Delgehausen of
Laverne; 11 grandchildren, Scott (Andrea), Jim, and Paul (Beatrice) McMillan, Nancy (Dennis) Lindsay, Ross (Heather) and Ryan (Kristina) Sappenfield, Kris and Jenny Rydeen and Jason, Erika, and Senta Delgehausen; 12 great-grandchildren, Molly, Michael, Montana, Lauren, Erica, Tatiana, Parker, Sydney, Sage, Ali, Hailey and Rainie; three sisters, Doris (Elmer) Sachs of Elk River, Sadie Radtke of Appleton, Vera Mae (Clint) Sperr of Moses Lake, WA and sister-in-law, Louise Fischer of Holloway

Verda was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, brother Leroy Fischer, and sister, Bernice Giese.

Lillian E. Bodin, age 90 of Murdock died on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Homestead Assisted Living in Murdock. Memorial service will be 10:30 am on Friday, September 22, 2006 at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Kerkhoven and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Lillian E. Bodin was born on May 11, 1916 in Willmar, Minnesota the daughter of Christ and Ella (Berkeland) Gundershaug. She grew up in the Priam area where she attended school. She graduated from Willmar High School. She worked at the state hospital before marriage. Lillian was united in marriage to Carl "Lester" Bodin on December 12, 1937 in Willmar. The couple lived and farmed in Mamre Township. She resumed work at the state hospital, completed her LPN, and retired in1981. In 1968 They retired from farming and moved into Kerkhoven. Lester passed away on March 27, 2002. Lillian continued to live in Kerkhoven and later entered the Homestead Assisted Living in Murdock.

Lillian was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. She was a member of Kerkhoven Lutheran Church in Kerkhoven where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and in Ladies Aid. Lillian helped start the Meals on Wheels program in Kerkhoven and was an active 4H leader. She was a great Norwegian cook, and talented seamstress and able knitter.

Lillian is survived by her daughter Marilyn (and Richard) Murphy of Murdock, Carol Bodin of New London, six grandchildren: Jill (and Mark) Gadbaw, Tom (and Kim) Murphy, Sheila (and Mike) Derry, Erica(and David) Flynn and Matt (and Leah) Murphy, 6 great-grandchildren, and sisters: Ellen(and Ken) Smith, Frances Smith and Lorraine (and Jim) Warren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son John and 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

William B. Kopacek, 55, of Willmar, died Saturday, September 16th, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 20th, 2006 at Evangelical Free Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

William “Bill-Musky”was born on December 8th, 1950 in Redwood Falls, MN, the son of Charles and Blanche (Frantik) Kopacek. He grew up in Olivia and graduated from Olivia High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1971-1973 during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he attended college in Marshall before going to Willmar Vo-Tech, graduating in 1976 with a degree in accounting. On March 21st, 1976, he was united in marriage to Nancy Watkins at Bethel Baptist Church in Kerkhoven. Following their marriage, they lived in Bird Island before moving to Willmar in 1978. He was a bookkeeper for Nelson International for the past 27 years. He also has been working at the Eagle Lake convenience store for the past few years.

He was baptized and confirmed at Faith United Methodist Church in Olivia and was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Willmar.

His family remembers his love of sports, his fun loving personality and his enjoyment of camping in the Black Hills for the past 30 years. He was most proud of his children and their accomplishments and they were grateful for his unending support.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy of Willmar; Cassie, Allie, Kalyn and Lexi all at home; Jarrett (and Kylie) Kopacek of Raymond; Tammy Kopacek of Willmar and Shannan Kopacek of Willmar and his brother, Charles “Skeeter”(and Jan Schemmel) Kopacek of Olivia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Howard E. Berg 84, of Willmar, died on Wednesday at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church with interment in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 until 7 pm at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Monday 1 hour prior to services at the church.
Howard Elmer Berg was born on July 28, 1922, at Eden Prairie, Minnesota, the son of Martin Elmer and Alice Fay (Albertson) Berg. Their family moved to the Svea in 1930. Howard graduated from Willmar High School in 1940.

Howard was in the US Navy during WW II, serving in New Guinea, and the Philippines. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion.

On December 3, 1945, Howard was united in marriage to Donna Warren at Swedish Lutheran Church in Grove City, Minnesota. This union was blessed with six children. They lived in Redwood Falls until 1978, when they moved to Willmar. Howard was self employed as a painter and also worked in the maintenance at Jennie-O-Foods for 18 years retiring in 1998.

Howard was baptized at Eden Prairie and confirmed at Svea Lutheran Church. While living in Redwood Falls he was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and did all the finishing work for their new church building. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church at the time of his death where he served volunteering for many projects. Howard and Donna were the first recipients for the Volunteer Award at Calvary. In addition to all of his work at the church, Howard did the painting and repairs at both the Green Lake Bible Camp and the Shores of St. Andrew.

He had served with Meals on Wheels for a number of years and Habitat for Humanity, doing the finishing work on many of their homes in the area. Following the tornadoes in the Comfrey and St. Peter area, Howard volunteered many hours staying in the area helping people rebuild their homes.

Surviving is his loving wife, Donna; children, Shirley Pettis, Willmar, Gary (and Ann) Berg, Rosemount, Peggy Sampson, Stan (and Donna) Berg, Zimmerman, Trudy (and Rodney) Schlieman, Holloway, and Corey (and Pam) Berg, Savage; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Gene (and Marjorie) Berg, St. Cloud, Bonnie Thompson, Alexandria, and Judy (and Roland) Peterson, Tracy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harold “Pete”Hagert, 67, of rural New London, died on Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Spicer. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm Friday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, 1000 19th Ave SW, Willmar, MN (320-235-0545) with Parish Prayers at 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be 4:00 pm on Saturday at Minneopa Cemetery, Mankato.

Harold Peter Hagert was born on July 9, 1939, in Wabasso, Minnesota, the son of Tony and Beatrice (Haecheral) Hagert. Their family moved to Sleepy Eye and later to Maynard where Pete graduated from Maynard High School in 1957. He continued his education at Mankato State where he graduated with his Bachelors Degree in Education. Pete continued his education earning his Masters Degree from Mankato State and continued at St. Cloud State.

On August 25, 1962 , Pete was united in marriage to Mary Anderson at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. This union was blessed with five children. They lived in Mankato, Morgan, Mapleton and Glencoe, prior to moving to the Kerkhoven and New London areas, where Pete served as principal at KMS for 25 years, retiring in 1997. He continued to be active following his retirement, driving for Riley and Rustad Bus Companies. He also enjoyed helping his family on their farm, driving truck for them.

Pete was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, and was confirmed at St. Clara’s Catholic Church, Clara City. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Spicer at the time of his death. Pete served as a eucristic minister for the home bound and was on the planning committee for the new church building.

Surviving is his loving wife, Mary; children, Susan (and Kevin) Lundberg, Murdock, Peter (and Marie) Hagert, Lake Crystal, Paul (and Karen) Hagert, Chandler, AZ, Peggy (and Scott) Tersteeg, Olivia and Amy (and Mark) Syvertson, Paynesville; 15 grandchildren, Jeremy, Bryan, Nicholas, Kayla, Josephine, LaTasha, Joshua, Justin, Nicole, Seth, Amanda, Spencer, Teirrah, Easton, and Elli. Also surviving are his siblings, Pat (and Dan) Soltau, Bemidji, Diane (and Ken) DeBoer, Pine Island, Duane Hagert, Bulverde, TX, Corinne (and Delbert) Kimpling, Maynard, Tammy Chehouri (and Dave Jackson) Roseville, and Tony (and Jane) Hagert, Granite Falls; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Marvin J. Lensing 88 of Belgrade passed away Friday evening September 8, 2006 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday September 12, at 11:00 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Belgrade. Interment will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, with honors provided by the American Legion Post # 612, of Lake Henry. Friends may call at the church in Belgrade from 4:00 to 8:30 pm on Monday September 11 and two hours before the service on Tuesday. Parish prayers will be held at 7:30 pm at the church and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm.

Marvin Lensing age 88 of Belgrade passed away Friday evening at his home. Marvin was born to Herman and Elizabeth (Froehle) Lensing on May 28, 1918 in Bancroft, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Valeria Eveslage, September 7, 1948 at St. Andrews Catholic, in Greenwald. Marvin served his country during WWII from 1941 to 1945, in the Army. After the service he worked as a mechanic in Elrosa, and in 1950 purchased a farm in Belgrade. After 35 years of farming he retired and moved to Belgrade. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, helping out on the farm, mowing his lawn, caring for his flowers, and watching his grandchildren play sports. Marvin was a member of American Legion Post #612 in Lake Henry, Catholic Aid, Knights of Columbus, St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Board, and active in his church.

Marv will always be remembered as a faithful Christian and dedicated DAD who raised his family of seven children as a widower. Sharing the fish he caught with the town people was his pride, along with helping on the farm, he also enjoyed card playing and going to morning coffee.

Lois M. Fredrick, age 71 of Melrose, formerly of Paynesville, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, September 9, 2006, at her home in Melrose. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade, with Rev. Dan Hermanson officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday for two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Gausdal Lutheran Cemetery in rural New London. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.

Lois Margaret Fredrick was born on December 20, 1934 in Montevideo, the daughter of Richard and Margaret (Olson) Zimmerle. She grew up in Montevideo where she was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The family moved to a farm near Belgrade in 1945. She attended country grade school, and high school in Belgrade, graduating in the class of 1952. On September 13, 1953 she was united in marriage to Donald Fredrick, on her parents farm near Georgeville. To this union four daughters were born. They made their home near Georgeville until moving to Paynesville in 1961. Lois worked as a nursing assistant until she began working as a seamstress for the Animal Fair, Wonderalls and Koronis Parts. They moved to Melrose in May of 2002. Together, Lois and Don were able to share in 53 years of marriage.
Lois was a former member of Gausdal Lutheran Church where she had been confirmed in the Christian faith on September 21, 1947. She also served as an organist, Sunday school teacher and had held offices in the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing piano, spending time with her family, baking, canning, sewing, flowers, traveling, visiting and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Lois died on Saturday morning, September 9, 2006 at her home in Melrose at the age of 71. She is survived by her husband, Donald Fredrick of Melrose; four daughters, Julienne (and Butch) Gustafson of Deer Creek, Charlene (and Gene) Altenbrun of Staples, Arlene (and Ken) Feldewerd of Sauk Centre, and Lorene (and Tom) Meyer of Melrose; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two brothers, Cleon Zimmerle (and sp friend, Gayle Anderson) of Brooten and Leon (and Sherelle) Zimmerle of Spicer.

Verna Louise Harms, 95 of Willmar and formerly of Watertown, died on Saturday September 9, 2006, at Prairie Senior Cottages. Private family services will be held. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.

Verna Louise (Bottolfson) was born on May 8, 1911, in Aldon, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Alma (Moe) Bottolfson. After completing her grade school in 1925, Verna and her older sister Mabel, moved to Amery, Wisconsin to attend high school, graduating in 1929. Verna continued her education at Twin City Business College in St. Paul, taking a secretarial course graduating l in 1930, during the depression. From 1930 -1939, Verna worked at several different places, her jobs ranged form babysitting to waitressing to credit manager. She was able to save enough money to buy her first car in 1937.

On September 29, 1939, Verna was united in marriage to John “Jack”Harms at Mason City, Iowa. They lived in St. Paul, where Jack worked as a Pharmacist with his father at the family drug store and Verna worked for Rogers Insurance Agency. In 1944, they purchased Harms Pharmacy in Watertown. That same year Verna and Jack were blessed with the adoption of their first child, a daughter, Pamela Jean. In 1947, they were blessed again with the adoption of a son, John Robert.

Verna was very involved with the Watertown community, including be the “First Lady”of Watertown, when Jack was elected mayor from 1951-1956. Among her various achievements, Verna was President of the Minnesota Pharmacy Auxiliary, a great honor and source of pride. She also kept her Norwegian heritage close at heart. Among her various church and community activities, Verna also did the book work for the pharmacy.

As the children grew up and moved out, Verna and Jack spent winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they had many family and friends.

After living 45 years in Watertown, they moved to Cold Spring. Shortly after moving there, Jack died. Verna continued to be active in the Cold Spring community, including helping out at the local Senior Citizen Center. She also continued to make the winter trip to Mesa.

Verna enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, with friends and family, traveling around the world, going for walks, golfing and playing shuffleboard. Se was a great cook and enjoyed making meals for family get-togethers. Due to failing health, Verna moved to Willmar in 2002, where she lived until her death.

Verna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Pam (and David) Harder of Willmar, and her son John Harms, Elk Grove, California. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Reid and Ragen Harder and several members of her extended family.

In addition to her husband Jack, Verna was preceded in death by her parents and six sisters.

Harland D. Heairet, 76, of Paynesville passed away Thursday evening September 7, 2006, at the Paynesville Area Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at Paynesville Lutheran Church with Rev. Dave Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Paynesville Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville on Monday from 4 to 8 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm.

Harland D. Heairet was born on October 15, 1929 in the township of Alta Vista in Lincoln County Minnesota, the son of Harland and Elsie (Mohr). Harland attended an elementary country school, and graduated from Lynd High School in 1948. In 1951 he enlisted in the Navy where he served his country until 1955. After enlisting he married the love of his life Darlene Buesing, on June 30, 1951. To this union eight children were born. While in the Navy Harland and Darlene lived in Illinois, South Carolina, and Virginia. In 1954 the family moved back to Minnesota where they made there home in Clara City, Waconia, Clearwater, Regal, and Paynesville. Darlene passed away in December of last year; together they shared 54 years of marriage.
Harland worked as an area manager for Conklin products where he earned the Man Of The Year Award in 1975. Later in his career Harland worked as an independent product consultant for Tahitian Noni International. During Harland’s life he was on Board of directors for the Paynesville Area Community Center, a member of the Paynesville American Legion Post #271.

Harland’s house was always the central gathering scene for the family; he loved the Vikings, Twins, and his cat Gomer; and he always looked forward to beer Friday at his house.

Harland passed away Thursday evening at the Paynesville Area Hospital. He is survived by his children, Thomas, of Paynesville; Kevin of Young, AZ; Brad (and Jody) of McMinnville, OR. Michelle (and Gene) Lahr of Grey Eagle; Janelle (and Mark) Leyendecker of Grove City; Laura (Luke) Martinson of Paynesville; David (and Nancy) of Albertville. 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, brother Dean, of Omaha NE. Harland was preceded in death, by his parents, wife, Darlene; son Douglas; and brother, Richard. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Rebecca Ann “Becky”Loven 53, of Plymouth and formerly of Willmar, died on Friday at her home following an illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday at First Covenant Church in Willmar with interment at Lundby Cemetery, rural Willmar. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5until 7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Wednesday 1 hour prior to services at the church. The Family prefers Memorials to Hospice.

Rebecca Ann Loven was born on December 1, 1952, in Willmar, Minnesota the daughter of Ardell E. and Doris (Danielson) Loven. She grew up in the Willmar area graduating from Willmar Senior High School in 1970. Becky continued her education at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus. She lived in the in the Chicago area for a brief period before moving to Minneapolis where she has worked in the Medical Claims area at Associated Clinics of Psychiatry in Minneapolis for the past number of years.

She was baptized and confirmed at First Covenant Church in Willmar and was attending the Church of the Open Door in Maple Grove at the time of her death.

Becky’s family recalls her life work, friends, neighbors, and family all-important parts of her life. She will always be remembered for all she has done to help with family even these past two years as she was dealing with her own health. Becky loved to read and her dog Blondie was always by her side.

Surviving are her parents, Ardell and Doris Loven, Willmar; sisters, Susan (and Frank) Almandarez, Stockton, CA. and Sandra (and Lyle) Heinitz, Elkhorn, WI; nieces and nephews, Jon, April, Aiden, Liz and Mike. Also surviving are her many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Edward Green, age 92 of New London, passed away on Wednesday evening September 6, 2006 at GlenOaks Care Center. Funeral service will be on Saturday, September 9, 2006, 10:30 am at Johnson Funeral Home New London, Minnesota

Edward Green was born on September 26, 1913, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of William and Lydia (Wood) Green. On November 29, 1935, Ed was married to Myra Martin in Sioux City, IA. Eight children were born to this union. The family lived in the Oto, Iowa area until 1953 when they moved to Minnesota where they farmed. In 1993, after 54 years of working the farm, Ed retired from farming. On June 19, 1995 Myra passed away, they had been united in marriage for just short of 60 years.

In 2004, Ed moved into Willmar before moving to GlenOaks Care Center earlier this year. Ed will be remembered by his family and friends, for his love for them and his wonderful smile.
He is survived by his children, Richard (and Wanda) Green, of Coon Rapids, William (and Arlene) Green of Paynesville, Donna Carver of New London, Lois (and Ron) Nelson of New London, Carol (and Jerry) DeGeest of Willmar, Patsy (and Darell) Onstad of New London, and Gary Green of New London; 25 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myra, son, Larry, one brother and three sisters.

Rev. Thomas L. Hoogendoorn, 59, of Willmar, died, Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Thursday, September 7th, 2006 at First Reformed Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Friday, September 8, 2006 at 11:00 am in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Thomas was born on March 6, 1947, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Cornelius and Wilhelma (VanderWeele) Hoogendoorn. He was raised in Kalamazoo and graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1965. He continued his education at Western Michigan University and graduated from Western Theological Seminary in 1975. He was united in marriage to Janice Kuitert on March 31, 1967 in Kalamazoo, MI. He pastored the following churches: Pembroke Reformed Church, Pembroke, IL; Alto Reformed Church, Alto WI; Immanuel Reformed Church in Belmond, IA; Grace Reformed Church, Corsica, SD; Mt View Reformed Church, Denver, CO: The Reformed Church, Dell Rapids, SD: First Reformed Church, Sanborn, IA and First Reformed Church, Willmar, MN. As he Pastored the churches he was involved in many positions with the Classis’, Denver Southwest Ministries, food pantry and housing, prison ministries, Optimist Club and Ministerial Associations. He served on a school board, was active with Southern Gospel Music and was a director and board member of Inspiration Hills Reformed Church Camp in South Dakota. Thomas truly enjoyed his preaching, teaching and singing. He also played Santa Claus in several places through the years. Participating and watching all sports, especially softball, golfing and stock car racing. Thomas cherished the time he could spend with friends sharing laughter, food and playing cards. But his best memories and times were spent with his children and grandchildren and their activities. He loved to live his life by God’s grace and love.

Surviving are his wife, Jan of Willmar; his mother, Willema of Kalamazoo, MI; daughters, Rebecca (and Brian) Needles of Milaca, MN; Rachel (and Spencer) Larsen of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Randy (and Jenny) Hoogendoorn of Belton, MO; six grandchildren, Derek, Payton and Mika Hoogendoorn and Lily, Sophia and Sage Larsen. Also surviving is his sister, Donna (and Larry) Egberts of Westminster, CA and brothers-in-law, David (and Berta) Kuitert and David Kuitert both of Plainvwell, MI.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Clarence M. Hegreberg, 93, of Spicer, died Thursday, August 31, 2006, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, rural Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Friday at 8610 60th St NE, Spicer and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Clarence was born on June 17, 1913, in Minot, North Dakota, the son of Andrew and Anna (Nelson) Hegreberg. The family lived in Minot until 1920 when they moved to a farm in Green Lake Township. Clarence attended District #51 Country School and farmed with his parents. On June 6, 1936, he was untied in marriage to Stella Olson. They lived and farmed the Hegreberg home farm. To this union three children were born, Larry, Renee and Harold. Stella died on January 3, 1998. On September 18, 1999, Clarence was united in marriage to Hazel Johnson in her garden at her home near New London. Following their marriage, they lived on the Hegreberg Farm.

Clarence was an extremely generous man, not only with his family but with everyone. His care and concern was for all, having a heart for others more so than him. He enjoyed company and visiting with others. Clarence was generally a happy-lucky go man, never having a harsh word for anyone.

He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Spicer and was a member of Eagle Lake Lutheran Church where he had served as a trustee.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel; children, Larry Hegreberg of Ogilvie; Renee (and Ray) Larsen of Wyoming and Harold Hegreberg of Spicer; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with one more on its way; and sister, Bernice Anderson of Willmar.

Beside his first wife, Stella, he was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Lillian Renstrom, 93 of Willmar, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, September 1, 2006 at Blomkest Baptist Church in Blomkest. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, rural Blomkest. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Lillian was born on December 7, 1912, in Fahlun Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota the daughter of Louis and Tilda (Lundgren) Strand. She was raised in Fahlun Township and attended a country school. When she moved to Minneapolis she worked as a nanny and housekeeper. On August 8, 1936, she was united in marriage to Gordon Renstrom at Fourth Baptist Church in Minneapolis. They moved to Roseland Township and later East of Lake Lillian where they farmed. She worked for a number of years at Jennie O Foods. Upon their retirement in 1976, they moved into Blomkest and later Willmar.

Lillian would always recall her days of fond memories on the farm. She was known by her children and grandchildren for her love of baking and making sure no one left with an empty stomach. Her family remembers the many family holidays and birthday celebrations she provided. She also enjoyed doing her crocheting and knitting which she shared with family and friends.

She was a woman of faith having belonged to the Blomkest Baptist Church. In her retirement, she belonged to the Senior Saints, Red Hats, enjoyed the Twins immensely and loved to play bingo and dominoes. Commenting many times that she had to teach these old people how to play!

Surviving are her children, Allen (and Gloria) Renstrom of Aitkin; Algene (and Alice) Renstrom of Willmar; Madeline (and Ralph) Radtke of Buffalo Lake; Linda (and Robert) Gauer of Farmington and LeRoy (and Becky) Renstrom of Litchfield; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Elaine Lindquist of Maplewood; Ella Renstrom of St. Paul and Rosetta Strand of St. Louis Park.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gordon on September 15, 2001, four brothers and one sister.

Marie Anna Schoenberg, 56 of Willmar, died on Saturday at her home. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Friday, September 1, 2006, at Harvest Community Church. Interment will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, Spokane, Washington. Friends may call on Friday 1 hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and West Central Cremation Service.

Marie was born on February 5, 1950, in Spokane, Washington, the daughter of Frank J. Madison and Vivian Bernice Owens. She grew up in the Spokane area where she graduated from Ferris High School.

Marie was united in marriage to Edward Joseph Schoenberg Jr.; this union was blessed with three children. They lived in the Spokane area. Edward preceded her in death on November 13, 1997. Marie moved to Willmar in 2001.

Surviving are her children, Diane Lubbers, Svea, Rick Schoenberg, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Cassandra Schoenberg, Svea; three grandchildren. Also surviving is her mother Vivian Bernice Owens, Spokane, Washington; three brothers, Donald Owens, Spokane, Washington, Bill Owens, Missoula Montana, and Timothy Owens, Anaheim, CA.

In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her father.
