Bessie L. Gunn, 86, of Willmar, formerly of Spicer, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Scandia Assisted Living in Willmar. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be at Spicer City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 pm on Friday, at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bessie Louise Gunn was born on October 28, 1922, in Pine City, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Ethel (Mankoff) Garrett. The family lived in Faribault, and Owatonna, before moving to Lakota, IA, where Bessie received the majority of her schooling. On October 18, 1941, Bessie was united in marriage to Daniel Gunn in Esterville, IA. This union was blessed with four daughters and a son. They lived in Cylinder, IA until 1948 when they moved to Swea City, IA for a year and then to Senica, IA. In 1950 they moved to Spicer where they farmed until 1967, when they moved to Sauk Rapids. In 1985 they moved back to Spicer. Daniel passed away on January 2, 1990. Together, they shared in 48 years of marriage. In 1999 Bessie moved to the Scandia Central Minnesota Senior Care Center.
Bessie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. She loved to have fun playing cards, dice, and board games. She also enjoyed putting jig saw puzzles together, old time music, dancing, and playing the piano. She had many pets over the years that she loved greatly. Most of all Bessie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bessie L. Gunn died on Tuesday night, March 31, 2009, at Scandia Assisted Living in Willmar, she was 86. She is survived by her children, Ruth Hoffman of Kandiyohi, Phyllis (John) Wilken of St. Cloud, Daniel (Carol Beekman) Gunn of Long Beach, CA, Betty Thurston of Sauk Rapids; 7 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Daniel; daughter, Cindy; son-in-law, Dave Thurston; two brothers and two sisters.

Bernice E. Hatlestad, age 94 of Willmar, died Thursday morning, April 2, 2009 at Bethesda Heritage Care Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake and also for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Bernice Ethel Hatlestad was born on May 15, 1914 in Norway Lake Twp., the daughter of Ole and Alma (Torgerson) Rasmusson, and one of sixteen children. She was baptized and confirmed at Sunburg Lutheran Church. She grew up in the Sunburg area and attended country grade school in dist. #73. On Sept. 26, 1935, Bernice was united in marriage to Selmer T. Hatlestad in New London. This union was blessed with two sons. They farmed in the Sunburg area, moving to the city of Sunburg in 1964. They later moved to Kerkhoven, where they resided until 1994. Bernice worked at Farmers Produce in Willmar in the 1960’s and Jennie-O Turkey Plant in the 1970’s, retiring in 1983. She also made lefse with her sister-in-law, Luella Erickson for local grocery stores and worked part-time at the Sunburg Café. Together, Bernice and Selmer were able to share in 62 years of marriage before Selmer’s death on Sept. 21, 1998. Bernice has been a resident of Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar for the past few years.
Bernice was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake, where she was active in the ladies group and altar guild. She was also a member of the Farmers Union and Ladies VFW Auxiliary #8457 of Sunburg.
Bernice died on April 2, 2009 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar at the age of 94. She is survived by son, Silas (Darla) Hatlestad of Sunburg, daughter-in-law, Mary Hatlestad of Kerkhoven; 9 grandchildren, Scott (Robin) Hatlestad, Brian (Robyn) Hatlestad, John (Terri) Hoff, Wayne (Jill) Hatlestad, Brent (Tammy) Hatlestad, Darren (Gina) Hatlestad, Dain (Angie) Hatlestad, Yvette (Scott) Rajewsky, and Deanna Stamer; 16 great-grandchildren, Kristie, Craig, Brenna, Rylan, Abbie, Alex, Sadie, Jarrett, Shawn, McGwire and Dalayne Hatlestad, Emily and Sara Rajewsky, Destinee Stamer, and Nathan (Amber) and Nicolle Hoff; siblings, Vangie Palmer of Fridley, Carl (Charlotte) Rasmusson of Willmar, Wilton (Doris) Rasmusson of Minneapolis, Walter (Maxine) Rasmusson of Ft. Collins, CO, Brothers-in-law, Dewayne Rudningen of Sunburg and Glen Olson of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Doris Rasmusson of Willmar; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Selmer; son, Leland in 2006; grandson, Bradley Hatlestad; great-grandson, Jeffrey Hatlestad; parents, 4 brothers and 8 sisters. |

Dorthy R. Bakken, age 90, of Willmar died on April 2, 2009 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 pm Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment is in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Calvary Lutheran Church or Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center (PWELC).
Dorthy Rae Bakken was born on Sepember 20, 1918 in St. Peter, Minnesota, the daughter of Roy and Esther (Hallander) Johnson. She grew up in St. Peter and graduated from St. Peter High School. She was united in marriage to Doaine Bakken on May 10, 1941 in Shakopee, Minnesota. They later moved to Willmar where Doaine worked with First Federal Savings and Loan Assn. Doaine died on March 5, 1985. Dorthy continued to live and be active in Willmar. In July of 2004, she entered Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Dorthy was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, serving with circle, altar guild, and Stephen’s Ministry. She was also instrumental in developing “The Sewing Club” which has been active for over 60 years.
Dorthy enjoyed baking, cooking, entertaining and traveling with Doaine throughout the U.S.
On April 2, 2009 Dorthy died at Rice Care Center in Willmar at the age of 90 years.
She is survived by her three daughters: Karin (John) Gilbertson, Linda (Wayne) Nelson, and Mary (Russell) Merlin Pelkey all of Willmar; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters: Elaine Webster of Minnetonka, Julie (Gerald) Kehrli of Roseberg, OR; brother Roy Johnson of Spokane, WA and sister-in-law Pearl Bakken of Tempe, AZ; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her husband, Doaine, she was preceded in death by her parents. |

Roger Lieser, age 42 of Belgrade, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his home in Belgrade. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, where there will be a 6:00 p.m. parish prayer service. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning for one hour prior to the services at the church.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. Roger Arthur Lieser was born on June 2, 1966 in Melrose, the son of Jerome and Eileen (Kotschevar) Lieser. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael Catholic Church in Spring Hill. He grew up on the family farm and attended Melrose High School. After his schooling he farmed with his brother, Danny. On June 11, 1991, Roger was united in marriage to Joan Terres in St. Cloud. To this union two sons and a daughter were born. They later divorced and he made his home in Belgrade where he worked at L & M Services the past 10 years. He enjoyed ice fishing, hunting and spending time with his children and friends.
Roger died unexpectedly March 28, 2009 at his home in Belgrade at the age of 42. He is survived by his children, Kyle and Brittany; mother, Eileen Lieser; siblings, Daniel Lieser (Cindy), Karen (Gary) Gruber, Debbie (Randy) Hemmesch, Diane (Leon) Roelike, Gary (Trudy) Lieser, Mary (Dan) Hopfer, Mike (Mary) Lieser, John (Tonya) Lieser, Doris (Michael) Reinke and Jodi (Bill) Carroll; maternal grandmother, Veronica Kotschevar and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by infant son, Bradley; father, Jerome; sister-in-law, Michelle “Ma” Lieser and grandparents, Michael and Thecla Lieser and Chris Kotschevar.

Donald “Pete” Hagen, 77, of Belgrade, died on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Paynesville Area Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Monday, at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be at the Grace Lutheran West Cemetery. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Donald D. “Pete” Hagen was born on March 31, 1931, in Belgrade, the son of Arthur B. and Clara T. (Hamborg) Hagen. The family lived in the Belgrade area where Donald received his schooling from the Georgeville country school. He was baptized on April 26, 1931, and confirmed on May 5, 1946, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Belgrade.
Donald was employed with Duininck Brothers and Gilchrist, in Prinsburg for several years. From 1952 to 1954, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On January 11, 1956, he married Marilyn Hald. To this union a daughter and two sons were born. Donald continued his employment with Duininck Brothers as a road crew foreman for a total of 40 years, retiring in 1990 due to health reasons.
Donald is a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and a life member of Belgrade VFW Saboe-Levorson Post #1825. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed years of hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing on his many secret spots on Lake Andrew.
Donald D. Hagen passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Paynesville Area Hospital, he was 77 years, 11 months, and 26 days old. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Patricia Wold of Willmar; sons, Bradley Hagen of Moose Lake and Brian Hagen of San Jose, CA; three grandchildren, Justin (Martina) Wold, Joshua Hanson and Nicole Hanson; nine great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and a sister.

Deline Clinton “Dick” Bredeson, age 89 of Willmar died on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral service will be on 11:00 am on Monday at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Deline Clinton “Dick” Bredeson, was born on May 15, 1919 in Sacred Heart, Minnesota, the son of Ole and Helmina (Jevne) Bredeson. He grew up in the Renville / Sacred Heart area; where he attended country school. He later attended Ag school. He entered the United States Army Air Corp. during WWII stationed in England where he worked as a Teletype Operator on B-17 aircraft. He obtained a Corporal rank and received an Honorable Discharge in October of 1945. He returned to the Renville area and was united in marriage to Evelyn Dammermann on April 21, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. The couple moved to Willmar where Dick worked for Allied Gas and the City of Willmar. He later delivered flowers for Crown Floral.
Dick was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Lutheran Church and was a member of Vinje Lutheran church where he served as an usher.
He belonged to the Willmar V.F.W. Post #1639 and the Willmar Legion Post #167. He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants, traveling, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Dick died at St. Cloud Hospital. He is survived by his wife Evy of Willmar, four daughters: Kathleen Bredeson of Edina, Nancy Bredeson of Grand Rapids, Peg (Ivar) Siqveland of Walker, and Kristy Bredeson of Hopkins; three grandchildren: Ted (Nina), Ingrid, Ana and step-grandson John; two great-grandchildren: Theo and Tristan Deline; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Richard Allen; brothers: Elmer, Benny, Otis; three sisters: Milda, Hazel, Jeanette.

Carol Peterson, age 70 of Brooten, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Redeemer Health and Rehab Center in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran East Cemetery in Belgrade. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade..
Carol Peterson was born on April 23, 1938 on the family farm in Norway Lake Township, the son of Alfred and Verna (Sorenson) Peterson. The family later moved to a farm near New London, where Carol attended New London High School, graduating in 1956. He entered the United States Army in 1960 and served his country during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. In December of 1965, Carol was united in marriage to Jean Glauvitz in Belgrade. To this union three sons were born. They were stationed in Germany, Ft. Ord, California and Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Carol retired from the service in 1981 and they moved back to Brooten where he worked for Crow River Industries for over 20 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Belgrade VFW. He enjoyed painting, collecting many different things and spending time with Jean at garage sales and flea markets. Together they were able to share in 43 years of marriage before Jean’s death on July 29, 2008.
Carol died on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Redeemer Health and Rehab in Minneapolis at the age of 70. . He is survived by sons; Steve (Debi) Peterson of Minneapolis, Todd Peterson of Minneapolis and Jonathan Peterson of Brooten; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Danielle; siblings Charlotte (Dave) Andreen of Kasson and Arnold (Kathy) Peterson of Sunburg.

Linda Jean Kasik, 53, of Willmar, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at her home. Services will be held later in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Kandiyohi County Relay for Life or American Cancer Society. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Linda was born on April 28, 1955, in Chicago, IL, the daughter, of Andrew and Theresa (Jaroch) Sarna. She grew up in Chicago where she attended her schooling. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith.
On March 15, 1980, she was united in marriage to Mark Kasik in Chicago. In March of 2001, they moved to Willmar. She has been a cashier for the past 10 ½ years at Wal-Mart.
Surviving are her husband, Mark; father, Andrew Sarna of Cape Coral, FL; daughter, Gina Kasik of Shell Lake, WI; son, Mark Kasik, JR. of Plymouth; and brothers, Michael (and Sandy) Sarna of Chandler, AZ and Lee (and Margie) Sarna of Homer Glen, IL.
Her mother, Theresa, preceded her in death.

Michael L. Lundberg, age 39 of Orlando, FL, formerly of Spicer died March 23, 2009 from injuries sustained in an accident in Orlando. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be in Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Michael Lee Lundberg was born on February 8, 1970 in Paynesville, the son of Leland and Linda (Masters) Lundberg. He was baptized on March 15, 1970 at Harrison Presbyterian Church and confirmed on June 23, 1985 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. He grew up on the family farm near Spicer and attended Atwater High School graduating in 1988. He continued his education at Willmar Community College in Ag Business. On April 1, 1992, he entered the United States Navy, where he traveled the world and was stationed at many international bases. He was discharged on August 1, 2006 and made his home in Orlando, Florida where he owned and managed townhomes and worked for Disney and Universal Studios.
Michael enjoyed photography, listening to music, gardening, reading poetry, films, exercising, meditation and spending time with family and friends, especially his world wide travel with his close work colleagues. He will be remembered as a friend to all who knew him and the kind of person always willing to lend a helping hand.
Michael died on March 23, 2009 in Orlando at the age of 39. He is survived by his parents, Leland and Linda Lundberg of Spicer; brother, Mark Lundberg of Chicago and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Irene M. Mathiason, 93, of Belgrade, formerly of Brooten, died on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Belgrade Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday night from 5-7:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. I Lieu of Flowers Memorials are preferred to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
Irene May Mathiason was born on February 25, 1916, in rural Parkers Prairie, the daughter of Syver and Florence (Barker) Iverson. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School. After her graduation she moved to Alexandria, where she met the love of her life, Lawrence Mathiason. She was united in marriage to Lornie on May 21, 1936, in Albany. To this union four sons and a daughter were born. The family lived in Alexandria and Glenwood before Irene and Lornie bought the bakery in Brooten in 1948. Irene worked hand in hand with Lornie at the bakery until their retirement in 1975.
After their retirement they enjoyed traveling, taking extended vacations to California, Colorado, Texas, and Arizona. They also enjoyed their summers at their cottage on Lake Amelia. Lornie died in 1985, together they shared 49 years of marriage.
Irene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. She was a WELCA Circle member, Sunday school teacher, and volunteered her time where ever needed. Irene enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing, and bowling. There was never a time when the coffee wasn’t on and the doughnuts weren’t made for anyone stopping in. The love for her children was unending, she took care of her son, Junior, who was disabled with cerebral palsy for 71 years.
Irene M. Mathiason died on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Belgrade Nursing Home, at the age of 93. She is survived by her children, Junior of Belgrade, Sonja (Richard) Nelson of Dana Point, CA, Fred (Elaine) Mathiason of Houston, TX, and Jim (Norma) Mathiason of Belgrade; 9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and a great-great grandson. She is also survived by her sister, Violet Lien of Moorhead; and a brother, Clifton Iverson of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; son, Gary Michael; brothers, Sheldon, Lester, Lloyd, and Harris.

Gerald O. Reed, 72, of Willmar died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar following an extended illness. His service will be Friday at 11:00 am at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is in Vinje Lutheran Cemetery, Willmar. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Rice Hospice in Willmar.
Gerald Owen Reed was born August 21, 1936, in Willmar at the home of his parents Oswald and Geneva (Swenson) Reed. He attended and was confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1954. After graduation, he served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Boxer until 1957, receiving an honorable discharge on February 8, 1958. Gerald was united in marriage to Carolyn Enger and to this union three children were born. He was employed at Standard Lumber for a few years before beginning work at the Kandiyohi County Highway Department. He retired in 1993, after 33 years of employment.
Gerald was active with the Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing baseball and tennis, traveling, fishing, deer hunting, and photography. He was a great carpenter and mechanic, using these gifts to build a home. Most of all, Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was also a caregiver to his parents for several years, helping them whenever needed.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; children, Debbie Walker of Willmar, Linda (and Steve) Elbert of Maple Grove, Michael (and Karla) Reed of Mishawaka, IN; five grandchildren, Stephanie Walker (and Brian Grindell) of Kenton, OH, Kayla and Grant Elbert of Maple Grove, and Sierra and Anthony Reed of Mishawaka, IN. Also surviving are his siblings, Bob (and Betty) Reed of Lakewood, CO, Ivan (and Heather) Reed of Superior, WI, and Patricia Moore of Las Vegas, NV; mother-in-law, Inga C. Enger of Willmar; sisters-in-law, Jacqualine Johnson of Spokane, WA, Denise Enger of Willmar; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Mark Lee Gerdes, age 29 of rural Kerkhoven, died on Friday, March 20, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Wednesday at Kerkhoven Evangelical Free Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 on Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Kerkhoven and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Mark Lee Gerdes was born on January 31, 1980 in Willmar , Minnesota , the son of Kenneth and Karon (Wallace) Gerdes. He grew up in rural Kerkhoven where he attended KMS school. He worked with his father on the family farm and later worked in construction for Lake Region Contracting. He married Rebecca (Breuer) Gerdes on February 15, 2009. The couple lived in rural Kerkhoven.
Mark was baptized at Mamerlund Lutheran Church in Pennock and
he accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior in the fifth grade, he reaffirmed his faith and was
anointed on Dec. 31,2008.
Mark enjoyed going to farm auctions, collecting farm toys, playing darts, bowling, riding four wheelers and snowmobiling. He loved farming- seeing the seeds sprout and watching the crops grow. He would often drive around looking at the crops and watching how much they changed each week. He had a soft spot in his heart for baby animals; kittens, puppies, calves and would come up with names for many of them.
Mark’s family describes him as a big kid and his greatest joy was spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was always in the middle of every game whether indoors or outside. Mark’s free spirited nature would allow him to drive around the country side with no particular place to be. Wherever he ended up, seemed to be a good place.
Mark passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 20, 2009, surrounded by his wife and family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Surviving are his wife Rebecca Gerdes and unborn son Matthew Lee; parents Kenneth and Karon Gerdes all of rural Kerkhoven; sisters: Monique (Scott) Dorow of Eldora, IA, Melinda Gerdes of Golden Valley, Katherine Gerdes (Lynn Peters) of Kerkhoven; nieces and nephews: Victoria, Micah and Josiah Dorow, Cody, Elizabeth, Ethan and Katlyn Peters; grandmother Eleanor Gerdes of Kerkhoven; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Dale and Doris Breuer of Gaylord.
Mark was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Herbert and EvaLee Wallace; and grandfather Julius Gerdes and uncle Gerald Wallace. |

Betty Gangle, 70, of Willmar passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date.
Elizabeth “Betty” June Gangle was born June 1, 1938, in Madison, MN, the daughter of Harold “Charlie” and Marie (Schmieding) Kirchberg. She grew up in Madison, attending St. Michael’s Catholic School and graduating from Madison High School in 1956. After graduation, she worked as a waitress. On September 13, 1958, Betty was united in marriage to Donovan Joseph Gangle in Madison. Following their marriage they lived in Aberdeen and Brookings, SD, until 1973, when they moved to Willmar. Betty did daycare work at Kandi Courts and the Kandi Entertainment Center in Willmar and also did daycare out of her home. In 1994, Betty and Don had worked as caretakers for an apartment complex in Marshall for several years. Don preceded her in death on August 24, 2000.
Betty was a member of the Church of St. Mary, where she had been active with the Daughters of Isabella, Altar, and Rosary and also taught Sunday School.
Betty served as a Girl Scout Leader and was chairperson for their annual cookie sale for many years. Her family was very important to her, and they recall the Sunday drives they would take, how she enjoyed fishing with Don, going for coffee or out to eat and spending time with her grandchildren.
Betty also enjoyed collecting Betty Boop memorabilia.
Surviving are her children, Greg Gangle and Susan Gangle, both of Willmar; Kathy (and Tom) Harrah of Rochester, MN; and two grandchildren, Cassidy and Sean. Also surviving are her siblings, Cheryl (and Gene) Hodge of Madison, Rosie (and John) Blowers of Marshall, Barb (and Howard) Jorgenson of Montevideo, Deb (and Glen) Henningson of Ortonville, Becky Kirchberg of Marshall, and Pam (and Jim) Saboe of Zion Hills, PA; several nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

Willard E. Brandt, age 89 of Willmar died on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Monday (March 23) at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Lake Lillian Community Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Sunday (March 22) at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Willard Einar Brandt was born on September 22, 1919, in Kandiyohi Township the son of Gerald and Amy (Peterson) Brandt and died on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. He grew up in Kandiyohi Township and attended District 61 school. Willard farmed with his father and brothers, and later worked in a Kerkhoven department store before he entered the United States Army in 1942, during WWII, and was stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He received an Honorable Discharge in November of 1943. He returned to the Willmar area where he worked sales for Central Dairy, Holsum Bread Company, and Farmers' Union Oil Company, and was supervisor for Norling Silo Company where he retired in 1982.
Willard was united in marriage to Althea Coil on January 29, 1944 in Olivia, Minnesota. Three daughters were blessed to this union. The couple lived in the Willmar area where Willard worked. Following his retirement, he and Althea volunteered much of their time with: Senior Citizens' Club; AARP; Salvation Army; People On Watch; and 55 Alive. Willard was also a member of Willmar American Legion Post #167.
Willard was baptized and confirmed at Tripolis Lutheran Church in rural Kandiyohi. He was a long-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar where he served as an usher, on church council, visited nursing home residents, assisted with Meals-On-Wheels, participated in Over 60s, and was involved with the summer day camp, which was a partnership between the churches and the Hispanic community.
Willard enjoyed reading, fishing, especially with his grandchildren, and spending time with his family. Willard and Althea had taken numerous trips throughout the U.S. traveling to every state, Canada, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. His family will miss Willard making lefsa over the holidays.
Willard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Althea of Willmar; daughters: Carol Jean Mork (Hillary Freeman) of Minneapolis, Mary Lou Kley (Thomas) of Moorhead, Joan Brandt of St. Paul; four grandchildren, Andrew Mork (Beth) of Cloquet, Jason Kley (Sheila) of St. Louis Park; Joshua Kley (Chantelle) of Bulgaria, and Leah Johnson of St. Paul; and two great-grandchildren, Anders and Neenah Mork; and family friend, Mary Sweeney. He is also survived by his brothers: Burton (Loretta) Brandt of Willmar, Wallace (Corinne) Brandt of Raymond; sister Alice Thompson of Annandale; brother-in-law, Erland Coil; sisters-in-law, Delores Coil and Novia Coil; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie J. Carlson, a lifetime resident of Willmar, died at Willmar Commons on March 19, 2009. She was 96. Graveside service will be 1pm Friday at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.
Marie was born January 5, 1913 in Willmar. Her parents were Jennie Selseth Sletten and Torger Sletten, both of whom had immigrated from Norway. She graduated from Willmar High School, Willmar Normal Training, St. Cloud State University where she earned a B.S. in education and the University of Minnesota where she earned an M.S. in special education. She taught in two rural schools near Willmar, District 60 and District 63, The Village School in Kandiyohi and several elementary schools in Willmar.
She married Clarence R. Carlson on September 24, 1936, in The Little Brown Church in the Vale near Waterloo, Iowa. They had two children, Judy Lokensgard of Mankato, Minnesota, and John (Sue) Carlson of Irvine, California and Aurora, Colorado, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, sister Agnes Carlson.
Marie was a life-long member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar, having been baptized and confirmed at Vinje. She was active in many church organizations at Vinje, being a charter member of the Altar Guild, serving on the Church Council, teaching Sunday School and Released Time classes, and belonging to various Circles, Workshop Committee, Fellowship Committee and the Library Guild.
She was a member of the Rice Hospital Auxiliary, Rice Hospital Volunteers, Bethesda Homes Volunteers, Library Friends, Sons of Norway, and AAUW where she had served as Secretary, Treasurer and Historian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, sisters: Bernyce Demko, Helen Webster and brother Selmer Sletten. |

Hazel B. Framstad, age 97 of New London, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London and for one hour prior to the service. In Lieu of Flowers memorials are preferred. Funeral arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Hazel Berdella Haugen Framstad was born on February 1, 1912 on the family farm near Hannaford, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Horvei) Haugen. She grew up on the family farm and attended Goplin country grade school and Hannaford High School, graduating in 1931.
Following her education she moved to Willmar where she worked in retail sales and as a buyer for Habichts Dept. Store. On October 2, 1965, Hazel was united in marriage to Julian H. Framstad at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. They made their home on the Framstad Family farm in Roseville Township and Hazel worked at the Big Store in New London. Together they were able to share in 5 years of marriage before Julian’s death on January 31, 1971. After selling the farm in 1973, she rented a home in New London, later purchasing a home in 1975. She retired in 1974 but continued to work part-time.
Hazel was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in Peace Lutheran Women, Tuesday Bible Study, Christian Service Day and Quilting.
Hazel died on Monday, March 16, 2009 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 97. She is survived by children Sandra (John) Mogren of Tucson, AZ, Judy (Jim) Thompson of New London, James (Phyllis) Framstad of Annandale; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and numerous very special nieces and nephews.

Mable E. Stieler, 91, of Willmar, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Willmar Commons. A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 23, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN. Burial is in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Mable was born on November 28, 1917, in Sundown Township, Redwood County, Minnesota the daughter of Carl and Marie (Polzin) Kieper. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in December of 1917 and confirmed in 1933. Mable attended District 13 through the eighth grade and graduated from Springfield High School in 1936. She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Telephone Company and later Western Telephone Company.
On April 8, 1943, she was united in marriage to Otto Stieler in Springfield. Following their marriage, Otto served in the United States Army and while he was states bound Mable stayed with him and when he went overseas, Mable returned to Springfield. Upon Otto’s honorable discharge, he returned to Springfield to help run his father’s bakery. Mable and Otto attended Wilton School of Cake Decorating in Chicago, and she helped in the bakery as well as continuing to be an operator. She also attended LaSalle Extension University for interior design. In 1964, Otto sold the bakery, they moved to Mankato, and she became an interior designer for Landkammer Furniture until her retirement in 1979.
Mable and Otto enjoyed spending their winters in Las Vegas for the next 15 years while enjoying their summers in Minnesota. Otto died on November 18, 1993 and Mable moved to Willmar. Since 1998, she has been a resident of Willmar Commons.
Surviving are her nieces, Carol and Eileen Kieper of Willmar and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Her husband, parents and three brothers, Elmer, William and Alfred, preceded her in death.

Antoinette “Toni” Marie Braness was born September 1, 1954, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Milton and Patricia (Notaro) Hanson. She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1973. Following graduation she attended the University of MN, Minneapolis, and graduated with a bachelors degree in English. She moved to Willmar and worked at ACMC in the billing department and with Kandiyohi County Public Health. She later became the Director of Pact 4 Families Collaborative in Willmar. Toni was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.
Her family recalls her caring, compassionate way and the love she had for children. Toni enjoyed reading, especially John Grisham novels, and going to the library. She also enjoyed knitting, music, shopping, going out to eat with family and friends, and politics.
Surviving are her husband, Jim of Willmar; children, Edward Braness, Michelle (and Randy) Thomas, Becky Braness, and Robbie Braness (and fiancée , Amanda Andrews), all of Willmar; and three grandchildren,
Ethan Thompson, Morgan Thomas, and Isabella Brower. Also surviving are her father, Milton Hanson of Minneapolis; siblings, Steve (and Terri) Hanson of Plymouth, Jeff & Holly Hanson of Hill City, Kathi Hanson (and Dave Teague) of Fridley, Theresa Hanson of Minneapolis, Diane Hanson of Minneapolis, and Richard (and Julie) Hanson of Champlin.

Rachel Elaine Helland was born January 6, 1933, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Jonas and Agda (Storegard) Helland. She grew up in the Seattle, WA, area where she attended her schooling. The family moved to Thief River Falls, MN, where Rachel graduated from high school. Following her graduation, she attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. Rachel taught business and English classes in Okee, Roseau, Benson and Rochester before moving to Willmar in 1966. She continued her education at N.D.S.U. receiving her Masters Degree. She taught in Willmar until her retirement in 1996. In 2001, she moved to Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was active with Circle, finance board and a quilting group. She also was a member of AAUW and was treasurer of WEA for several years.
In her earlier years, Rachel enjoyed golfing and riding bike. She also enjoyed reading and traveling, making trips to Norway, England, Russia and Asia.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cora E. (Wiig) Erickson was born in Norway Lake Township in 1917 to Haaval and Eline (Teige) Wiig. She was united in marriage to Ole Erickson in 1944.
She is survived by her son, Lanny of Watertown, SD; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by parents, husband, Ole and four brothers, Ludvig, Melvin, Elmer (infancy), Reuben and sister, Emma Stork.

Elmer Koenen, 84, of Clara City, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at Harvey Anderson Clara City Funeral Home from 5-7 pm and one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday.
Elmer was born on February 22, 1925, in Sacred Heart, Minnesota the son of George and Bessie (Aeikens) Koenen. He was baptized at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City where he remained as a lifelong member. He grew up in the Sacred Heart/Renville area and helped his parents on the farm.
On January 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Caroline Mae Bakker at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Renville. Following their marriage, they farmed on his parent’s farm for the next 9 years. In 1957, they moved to Clara City and he began working for V.S.C. Inc and later worked for Luther Haven in Montevideo in maintenance until the early 1980’s. He never really retired as he worked part time for a number of people in the area.
Elmer cherished the time he could spend with his grandchildren, was an avid gardener of flowers, especially rosebushes and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his sons, Jeff (and Renae) Koenen and their children, Chad (and Danielle) of Glenwood, Ryan of Moorhead and Brittany of Wheaton; Kevin (and Cheryl) Koenen and their children, Megan and Andrew of Apple Valley; brother-in-law, Walter Bakker of Alexandria and special friend, Anita Gayken of Montevideo; one niece and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Caroline Mae on September 13, 2002 and sister, Clara Sande.

Marshall C. Walters, 85 of Paynesville died on Friday, March 6, 2009 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Paynesville Lutheran Church in Paynesville. Burial service Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Ft. Snelling. A visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Marshall C. Walters was born on May 3, 1923, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Marvin and Emogene (Smith) Walters. He grew up in Minneapolis where he attended elementary school and Roosevelt High School. In 1940 he joined the United States Navy where he earned his GED and then became an electrician. Marshall served his country in the Pacific Fleet during WWII.
Marshall was united in marriage to Ethel Griepentrog on May 13, 1944, in Seattle, WA. This union was blessed with three daughters and a son. After Marshall returned from the war he went to school at the Wahpeton State School of Science. He then went back to the Navy where he served during the Korean War. After the war he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad. His job took him from Minneapolis to Dickinson, ND, and then to Glendive, MT. In 1967 the family moved back to Minneapolis where they lived at Ft. Snelling while Marshall worked the VA Hospital. On July 14, 1978 Ethel passed away, together they shared in 34 years of marriage.
After Ethel died Marshall left the VA and became an independent heating/cooling contractor. In February of 1980, he was united in marriage to Elaine Brack at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis until Marshall retired and they moved to Paynesville.
Marshall was a member of Paynesville Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Paynesville American Legion, a former Mason, and a ham radio operator. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Montana, woodworking (he built their home in Glendive), and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marshall C. Walters died on Friday, March 6, 2009 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, he was 85. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Elaine; children Claudia Anderson of Glendive, MT, Cathy Hauck of Coon Rapids, Constance (Timothy) Carroll of Dillon, MT; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Mary Walters of Boise, ID; sisters, Mary Schmelz of Edina, Glory Simon of Edina; and brother, Robert (Carrie) Walters of Waite Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Ethel; son, Marshall “Moe”; brother, William; and son-in-law, Tony Hauck.

George was born on May 17, 1996 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN, the son of George and Lori (Walker) Olson and was baptized at the hospital. He attended Prairie Woods Elementary School and was currently a 6th grader at New London – Spicer Middle School. He was enjoying his first year of band, playing the baritone. He also had been involved in Cub Scouts.
George enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding his snowmobile and working outside in the yard and especially enjoyed trips to northern Minnesota. He also liked watching the Packers with his Dad and sister, Sarah. Most of all, George loved being with his dog, Maggie.
Surviving are his parents, George and Lori; sister, Sarah; grandparents, Robert and Carol Walker of Willmar; Sophie Olson of West Bend, WI; aunts and uncles, Jayne (and Todd Feld) Walker of Mesa, AZ; Julie (and Steve Swokowski) Olson of Scottsdale, AZ; Phil (and Mary) Olson of Brookfield, WI and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Edry Olson and aunt, Barbara Olson.

Ronald Douglas Jorgenson, 82, of Willmar, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 9th at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Ronald “Jorgie” was born on March 3, 1927, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Walter and Bernice (Bjur) Jorgenson. He grew up in Willmar until he was 15 when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He spent a short time in Granite Falls and was later transferred to Ah Gwah Ching State Hospital, in Cass County where he was cared for into his early 20’s, and he received his high school diploma.
On April 14, 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Blair at the Salvation Army in Willmar. Following their marriage, Ronald worked for Erickson’s Filling Station for a few years and then began his career as a parts man for CD&T and Broman’s of which he worked for many years. Before retiring in 1989, he worked for four years at Jennie-O Foods.
Ron enjoyed drawing airplanes, pictures of Jesus and wrote poetry. For many years, Ron wrote Shirley a “love note” and left it for her in the morning as he went to work. He was an avid Vikings fan and for all that knew him and his relationship with his sisters, they also knew about his penguin collection.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Shirley; daughters, Linda Nelson (and special friend, John Moller) of Willmar; Nancy Nelson (and special friend, Steven Skaalerud) of Minneapolis; Cheryl (and Roger) Wig of Spicer; Rhonda (and Bruce) Wold of New London; Doreen (and Joe) Kotzenmacher of Willmar; Alanna (and Craig) Hass of Spicer; Jodi (and Ray) Barboza of Little Rock, AR; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; his brother, Rev. Rodger (and Helen) Jorgenson of Rockton, IL; sisters, LaVone Jensen of Paynesville; DeeDee Emberland of Willmar and Elaine (and Ed) Meshriy of San Dimas, CA.

Robert H. Madsen, 89, of Belgrade died on Thursday, March 5, 2008, at the Belgrade Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be at Grace Lutheran West Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Belgrade VFW Post #1825. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-5:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert H. Madsen was born on April 5, 1919, on the family farm in Aberdeen, SD, the son of Christ and Christine (Westergard) Madsen. He attended a small country school until the third grade when his family moved to Belgrade. He grew up in Belgrade and attended Belgrade High School. At the age of 16 he became the youngest businessman ever in Belgrade when he took over the Webb Station in town. In 1942 Bob bought the former Sinclair building and opened a Standard Station there. On June 12, 1944 Bob was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps. He served his country faithfully during World War II. On June 7, 1946 Bob received an honorable discharge and returned home to run the station.
On November 13, 1944, Bob was united in marriage to Lillian Iverson. This union was blessed with three sons and a daughter. The family lived in Belgrade where Bob continued to run the station. After 42 years of work Bob sold the business in 1978.
Bob was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. He was a member of past church councils, cemetery committees, and was on the Grace Lutheran Church Building Committee. Bob served his community as a volunteer fireman for 27 years, and as a member of the Belgrade City Council. He was also on the advisory board for Standard Oil, the nursing home board; he was a member of the Senior Citizens Group, and a lifetime member of the Belgrade VFW Post #1825. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and refinishing furniture. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he was very proud of. His family will remember him as a true gentleman that was always willing to help out a neighbor.
Robert H. Madsen died on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Belgrade Nursing Home, he was 89. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian; children, Bruce (Carol) of Andover, Tom of Belgrade, Linda (Allen) Krystosek of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Symoniak of Brooklyn Park, David Madsen of Andover, Tim Krystosek of Colorado Springs, CO; great grandchildren, Christopher, Keegan, and Camden. Bob is also survived by his siblings, Donald (Judy) of New Brighten, Betty Edwin Krug of Tucson AZ, and Russell (Betty) North Hill CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald; and siblings, Elmer “Mickey”, Arthur “Archie”, Alice, and Richard.

Marie Charlene Twitchell was born on January 5, 1943 in Venice, California, the daughter of Darrel and Margarite Wilson. She grew up in Venice where she attended high school, graduating in 1960. After her schooling, Marie was united in marriage to Kenneth Rich. To this union two sons were born. They made their home in California before moving to the Twin Cities in 1968. After their divorce, Marie moved to the New London-Spicer and Willmar area, where she worked as a cashier for Casey’s, Target and Eagle Lake Convenience Store. In 1978, she was united in marriage to Allen Halbakken at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer. Together they were able to share in 14 years before Allen’s death in 1992. On February 14, 2001, Marie was united in marriage to Tom Twitchell. They made their home in Willmar and were able to share in 8 years of marriage.
Marie attended Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. She enjoyed music, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was active in Quitplan and attended numerous social clubs throughout the community.
Marie died on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 66. She is survived by husband, Tom Twitchell of Willmar; sons, Earl (Lynae) Rich of Spicer and Darrel (Julie) Rich of Manchester, IA; and six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Courtney, Avery, Dakota, Isaiah and Faith.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Allen Halbakken.

Ruth Bueide, 98, of Lincoln, formerly of Willmar, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at The Monarch in Lincoln. Her funeral will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to service at the church.
Ruth was born December 17, 1910 in Carpio, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Elisa (Haaland) Haaland. She grew up in Carpio and graduated from Carpio High School in 1929, she continued her education at Minot State Teacher’s College, receiving her Teacher’s Certificate in 1930. Ruth taught in rural schools in North Dakota for the next six years.
On July 13, 1939, she was united in marriage to Rev. P. K. Lawrence Bueide at Carpio Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they live in the communities of Fergus Falls, Luverne, Willmar and Frost, Minnesota. In 1970, Ruth passed the test to become a Licensed Practical Nurse by studying her daughter’s textbooks and yet never went to a class. She practiced nursing for 15 years before retiring in 1985. Following her husbands death in 1987, Ruth continued to live in Willmar and in 2005, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be near her daughter, Elsa.
Whether she was teaching Sunday school, working as the custodian, participating as a Bible study leader, helping with Meals on Wheels or the Stephen’s Ministry, Ruth was always active in the churches she attended.
Surviving are her children, Paul (and Marsha) Bueide of Scottsbluff, NE; Katherine (and Tom) Renstrom of Montgomery, NY; Elsa (and David) Larson of Lincoln, NE; eight grandchildren and spouses, Mary (Brad) Hall, Michael (Christina) Bueide, Beth (Rick) Sunblade, Paul and John Renstrom, Eric (Kati) Larson, Karen (Chad Gerking) Larson and Daniel Bueide; 12 great grandchildren and great, great grandson, Jayson Renstrom. Also surviving are her brother, John (and Chris) Haaland of Albuquerque, NM; and sisters-in-law, Doroles and Helen Haaland both of Minot, ND.
Besides her husband, her parents, sons, Harold and Daniel, 5 brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Jim D. Gulbranson Sr, age 59 of Paynesville, died February 22, 2009 at the University of Minnesota Fairview Medical Center in Minneapolis with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009 at Paynesville Lutheran Church in Paynesville. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and for one hour prior to the services at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Paynesville American Legion.
James David Gulbranson Sr. was born on March 3, 1949 in Chicago, IL, the son of John G. and Jean (Cowan) Gulbranson. His family moved to Omaha, NE and later Denver, CO where he attended Westminster High School, graduating in 1967. His childhood was shaped and influenced by his relationships and the fond memories with his Janklow cousins and extended Gulbranson clan that continued throughout his life. He continued his education at Metropolitan State College in Denver for two years before world events led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, serving his country in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Denver where he owned and operated a Mexican Restaurant before moving to the Black Hills where he met his wife, Kim. On June 16, 1979, Jim was united in marriage to Kimberly Kruse. To this union one son was born. They made their home in the Black Hills and Denver before moving to Paynesville in 1986. Jim spent most of his career as a chef and most recently worked as a banquet chef
for the Green Mill Kelly Inn in St. Cloud. Together, Jim and Kim were able to share in 30 years of marriage.
Jim loved traveling and gardening with Kim. He enjoyed golfing and hunting, especially with his son and Canadian fishing trips. Jim spent time writing stories and a cookbook; painting with water colors and sketching with India Ink were other favorite pastimes. He was proud of making 2 holes-in-one at Koronis Golf Course.
Jim died on February 22, 2009 at the University of Minnesota Fairview Medical Center in Minneapolis at the age of 59 with his family by his side. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Kim of Paynesville; son, James (Lori) Gulbranson of Clearwater; and their children, J.D. and Max; daughter, Kate Spitzmiller of Boston, MA; brother, John (Dee) Gulbranson of Pensacola, FL; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Alice Kruse of Sioux Falls; sister-in-laws, Nancy (Dana) Oas of Harrisburg, SD and Sandy (Phil) Hamman of Sioux City, IA; 2 nieces; 2 nephews and numerous cousins.

Rose E. Krueger, 94, of Willmar died Monday at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. A funeral service will be 11:00 am, Friday at Assembly of God in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Friday one hour prior to the service at Assembly of God. Interment will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.
Rose Emma Krueger was born June 24, 1914, in Forest City, MN, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Rohrbeck) Ackerman. She was baptized at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City. She grew up and attended school in the Forest City area. In 1930, she moved to Willmar and worked in a variety store and various restaurants. On December 5, 1932, Rose was united in marriage to Russell Leroy Krueger in Glenwood, MN. Following their marriage they lived in Willmar, Duluth and Hibbing. When she was 19, Rose committed her life to Christ. Russell entered the US Army in 1943, and Rose moved to Minneapolis-St. Paul, where she worked in defense plants during WWII. Following Russell’s discharge in 1945, they moved to a farm near Atwater. In 1968, Rose rededicated her life to Christ at Assembly of God in Willmar. Following their retirement, Rose and Russell wintered in Arizona for many years. Russell preceded her in death on June 23, 2007. In October of that year, Rose moved to Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar.
Rose loved spending time with her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and her love for Christ and the church. Rose dedicated her time and love to her children and grandchildren. She was always helping someone in need.
She is survived by her son, David Krueger of Atwater; grandchildren, Chris (and Erica) Krueger of Atwater, Jerry (and Stacey) Krueger and Amy (and Rodney) Ziehl, both of Clara City, Korey (and Christy) Krueger, Emmaly (and Aaron) Tebben and Tanner Krueger, all of Atwater; and 13 great-granchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Bertha Quast of Watkins.
In addition to her husband, Russell, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry on February 5, 2001, three brothers and three sisters.

Ileen L. Lungstrom, 75, of New London, died on Friday February 20th at the St. Cloud Hospital. Friends may call on Friday from 5 until 7 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Private family services will be held with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Ileen was born on August 26, 1933, to Orpheus and Abby (Libby) Latcham in Cottonwood, Minnesota and moved with her parents to a farm near Milaca, Minnesota in the mid 1930’s. She went to Country School and then Milaca High School, graduating in 1951. Following graduation Ileen went to work for an insurance company in Minneapolis until 1952.
On June 21, 1952, Ilene was united marriage to Virgil A. Lungstrom at Sharon Lutheran Church in Spicer; this union was blessed with five sons. Ileen was employed by Larson’s Home Café while Virgil was employed at the Willmar Journal. In 1953, Virgil and Ileen founded Lake Country Press with the business continuing until 1995. Ilene then became active as a Senior Companion through Lutheran Social Services where she provided seniors and differently abled individuals rides and companionship to medical appointments, shopping trips and daily visits to her many thankful friends whom resided at Glen Oaks Care Center.
Her family recalls her love of dogs and cats, knitting, cooking, traveling and just nice relaxing times with her family, grandchildren. The word Grandma she greatly cherished.
She is survived by her husband Virgil A. Lungstrom; children, Warren A. Lungstrom, Philip J. and wife Jean Lungstrom, along with their children; Laura Lungstrom (mother of Ilene’s great grandchildren; Gage and William Lungstrom) Meggie Lungstrom and finance Bryan Ashburn, Nathan Lungstrom and Hayley Lungstrom. And last but not least Thomas R. Lungstrom whom provided many thankful months of loving care, advocacy, companionship, positive support and rides to numerous Medical Appointments and the often unexpected ER trips to St. Cloud Hospital.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Ramona Lind, age 78 of Willmar formerly of Spicer, died on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at her home in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Willmar Assembly of God. Burial will be prior to the service at Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Ramona Victoria Lind was born on April 18, 1930, south of Pennock, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Henrietta (Gaasterland) Gatewood. She grew up in the Spicer area and attended country schools in Kandiyohi County. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Lind on August 16, 1948, in Spicer. The couple lived in Spicer and were blessed with four children. Kenneth passed away on January 29, 1984. Ramona continued to live in Spicer and in 2000 moved to her home in Willmar.
She was a member of the Willmar Assemblies of God where she was active in Women’s Ministries, Serving Groups and Senior Adults. Ramona was an active volunteer for the Willmar Bibles for Mission Thrift Store, and was also a member of Our Night Out for over forty years.
She enjoyed gardening, antiquing, making cards, stamping, and embroidery. Her family was a very important part of her life and she cherished the time she could spend with them, especially her great-grandchildren.
Ramona died on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at her home in Willmar where she was lovingly cared for by her family. She is survived by her children: Kathren (and Dayton) Krueger of Willmar, Kim (and Robert) Lindahl of Spicer, and Keith Lind of Wyoming; grandchildren: Ryan Lind, Jasmine and Blake Krueger, Tawyna (and Philip) Andresen, Bobby (and Nikki) Lindahl, Kris (and Justin) Jorgenson, Kelly (and Josh) Johnson, Kenny Lind; great-grandchildren: Nathaniel, Noah & Iris Lind, Carter, Aedan & Ella Andresen, Deagan Lindahl, Lily Jorgenson, Braiden & Blaine Johnson; and brother Stanley Gatewood of Svea.

LeeAnn J. Peterson, 55, of Brooten, died on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-8:00 pm on Tuesday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake, and continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. Funeral service are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
LeeAnn Jo Peterson was born on June 20, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN. She was the daughter of Dale and Olive Caylor. LeeAnn grew up in Spicer, mainly at the Green Lake Bible Camp where Dale was the director. She attended New London-Spicer Elementary School and graduated from New London-Spicer High School with the class of 1971. After high school LeeAnn attended Willmar Area Vocational Technical Institute and received an Associates Degree. She then moved to Minneapolis where she briefly worked for Hauenstein and Burmeister Incorporated. She moved back to Willmar and began work as an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On October 5, 1974 LeeAnn was united in marriage to Al Peterson, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. This union was blessed with two sons. The family made their home at their present address in rural Brooten. After working as an operator LeeAnn began work for Baytone Music in New London, before becoming an assistant at the Lakes Area Review Newspaper in New London.
LeeAnn was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. She was a current member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London. LeeAnn was active at church as a former church council member, Sunday school teacher, and member of various committees.
LeeAnn was a member of the Red Hat Society, and of the Clubhouse Girls. She enjoyed crafting, traveling, and socializing. LeeAnn was a people person that greatly enjoyed her time with family and friends. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Lucas. Al will remember all the good times they had together and LeeAnn’s radiating smile.
LeeAnn J. Peterson died on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, she was 55. She is survived by her husband, Al; sons, Landon and special friend Jamie David of Brooten, Grant (Tessie) of Brooten; grandson, Lucas; mother, Olive Caylor of Spicer. She is also survived by her siblings, LaNae Osmond of New London, James Caylor of St. Cloud, Kent (Cindy) Caylor of St. Cloud, Debbie Caylor of Spicer, John (Sherry) Caylor of Long Lake; mother-in-law, Harriette Peterson of Spicer; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jean D. McGee, 83, of Spicer, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, at Hope Presbyterian Church in rural Spicer. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.
A visitation will be held on Thursday night from 5-8:00 pm, at Hope Presbyterian Church and continue one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Jean Dorothy McGee was born on November 2, 1925 in West Chicago, IL the daughter of Herman and Eva (McChesney) Dreibrodt. She grew up in West Chicago and attended country grade school and West Chicago High School, graduating in 1944. On August 14, 1946, Jean was united in marriage to Odis McGee. To this union two daughters and a son were born. They made their home in West Chicago until moving to New London in 1972 when they bought the Mobile Station, which they owned and operated until 1980. In 1995 she moved from her home on Nest Lake to an apartment in Spicer before moving to the care center in Willmar in 2003. Jean worked at Hillcrest Truck Stop for 16 years before retiring. She also worked at GlenOaks Nursing Home as a CNA. Together, Jean and Odis were able to share in 35 years of marriage before Odis’ death on May 30, 1984.
Jean enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a real people person who loved to take the time to visit with family and friends. She was a past member of Willmar VFW Auxiliary.
Jean died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Bethesda Heritage Care Center in Willmar at the age of 83. She is survived by her children Dorothy (and Clayton) Nelson of Punta Gorda, FL, Ronald (and fiancé Terri) McGee of New London and Melanie (and Bruce) Baxter of Lisbon, ND; grandchildren, Steven (and Teresa), Megan (and Nick), Daniel, Christopher (and fiancé Vanessa), B.J., Piper and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Kendra and Gage and sister, Lynn Peterson of New Mexico.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Marjorie Timm, Grace Gamble and Herman Dreibrodt.

Janet Holtkamp, age 88 of New London formerly of Cokato, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at Elim Mission Church in Cokato. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Janet (Lay) Holtkamp was born October 13, 1920 to Marie (Gerdes) and Ben Lay in Glueck, MN. Janet attended school in Clara City. She began her working career at age 11, baby sitting, doing housework and helping out on her aunt and uncle's farm.
She met Fred Holtkamp of Raymond while she was working for a widow with 2 children. They dated for 4 years and were married in Pipestone, MN on August 17, 1940. They resided in various places in Minnesota as well as Utah and Idaho. They moved to the Dassel and Cokato area in 1968 where they resided until moving to New London in 2001. Together they were able to share in 61 years of marriage before Fred’s death on March 11, 2002.
Janet worked at Jennie-O in Willmar and candled eggs at the creamery in Kerkhoven. She also worked at a factory in Maple Plain and had a part-time cleaning job at Rembrandt in Delano. Janet retired as a certified medical aid from the Dassel Nursing Home after 17 years. She loved the Lord and her family and prayed for them daily. Janet enjoyed traveling and went on many family camping trips as well as a tour to the Holy Land.

Janet is survived by her daughter Sharon (David) Ferch of Loretto MN, 2 sons, Earl (Lyn) of Wahoo NB, James (Brenda) of New London MN, 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Cassie Maahs of Pennock, Betty (Frank) Holm of Stillwater, Glenda (Rick) Rutz of Cologne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, two brothers, John and Virgil Lay and

Wenzel H. Erickson, age 68 of Hastings, formerly of Belgrade and New London area, died February 14, 2009 at Asera Care Center in St. Paul. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice.
Wenzel Harvey Erickson was born on March 26, 1940 in Glenwood, the son of Willis and Wanda (Medalen) Erickson. He grew up on the family farm near Sedan and later in Colfax Township. He attended country grade school in district # 10 and Belgrade High School. He entered the United States Navy in 1957, serving his country for 4 years before his honorable discharge. He lived in Long Beach, CA where he attended 2 years of junior college, receiving his journeymen’s card as a machinist. He worked in California and the Minneapolis/St. Paul as a machinist before returning to the area in 1974. He farmed and raised hogs before owning and operating Hawick Sinclair Filling Station in the mid 80’s and later working for New London Materials as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He retired in 2000.
Wenzel enjoyed his family, tinkering with just about anything and traveling every opportunity he could, especially going south in the winter. He was very proud of his work as a foster parent in the 70’s and 80’s.
Wenzel died on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Asera Care Center in St. Paul at the age of 68. He is survived by his special friend, Lois Darrington of Hastings; siblings, Darlene Birr of Belgrade, Charlie (Luzette) Erickson of Belgrade, Kermit Erickson of Willmar, Bonnie (Dale) Laidlaw of New London, Connie Peterson of Willmar and Dennis Erickson of New Hope; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wenzel was preceded in death by his parents.

Hazel Marie Miller, 88, of Spicer, died on Wednesday morning, February 11, 2009 at the Belgrade Nursing Home. Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at Hope Presbyterian Church in rural Spicer with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private burial service will be held by the family at a later date.
Hazel Miller was born on August 18, 1920 in Odebolt, Iowa, the daughter of Hookan and Christina (Anderson) Pearson. She spent her younger years in Iowa, graduating from high school in 1938.
On March 15, 1944 she was united in marriage to Leonard Miller. This union was blessed with one son, Larry. They farmed in the Spicer area. Hazel enjoyed animals, especially the horses, dogs and small calves.
Hazel Miller died on Wednesday afternoon, February 11, 2009 at the Belgrade Nursing Home at the age of 88. She is survived by son, Larry and his wife Donna of Spicer, grandson, Eric; sister, Helen Engel of Belgrade; and two nieces.

Paul C. Baumgarten, 62, of Willmar, died unexpectedly on Sunday at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis. The service will be 1:30 pm Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment will be 1:00 pm Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tomah, Wisconsin. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 until 8 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home 1000 19th Ave SW Willmar, Minnesota, and on Friday 1 hour prior to services at the church.
Paul Charles Baumgarten was born on April 18, 1946, in Tomah, Wisconsin the son of Lyle and Margaret (Fenske) Baumgarten. He grew up in Tomah attending St. Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from Tomah High School in 1964. Paul continued his education at UW Steven’s Point graduating in 1968 with a BA. Paul taught in Suring and New London, Wisconsin moving to Willmar, Minnesota in 1973, where he taught Junior High Band.
On July 5, 1975, Paul was united in marriage to Julaine “Jo” Meyer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Willmar. This union was blessed with two children. They live in Willmar where Paul continued teaching Junior High Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo and the Junior and Senior High School Marching bands. From 1979 through 1981 Paul also served as the Minnesota State FFA Band Director. He has served ad a judge and clinician for the Minnesota State High School League for thirty years and has occasionally worked with bands at Junior High Band Festivals throughout Southwestern Minnesota. In 2002, Paul was presented with the Outstanding Music Educator award by the Minnesota Music Educators Association. In June of 2005, after serving as a public school band director for 37 years, Paul retired from teaching. Following his retirement Paul drove bus for Willmar Bus up until the time of his death.
Paul has maintained a busy playing schedule, performing regularly on Tuba, Euphonium and Trombone with community and liturgical ensembles and has participated as a soloist with various high school and community bands. In 2003 and 2006, Paul was selected as the featured soloist with the Heritage Fest Tuba Choir for New Ulm’s Heritage Festival. In addition Paul played in many weekend dance bands, polka bands and Dixieland bands, and directed the Prairie Winds Summer Pop Band for over 20 years. He also was past president of West Central Concert Series.
Surviving is his wife of 33 years, Julaine “Jo” of Willmar; children, Amy Jo (and Ryan Strouth) Baumgarten, Apple Valley and Ross Baumgarten, St. Paul. Brothers and sister, Jack Baumgarten, Tomah, WI, Doris (and Oris) Hall, Tomah, WI, Bill (and Tereza) Baumgarten, St. Paul, MN, Dick (and Sandy) Baumgarten, Tomah, WI, Bert (and Cheryl) Baumgarten, Tomah, WI, and Tom (and Lynn) Baumgarten, Tomah, WWI.and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Cheryl L. Ditmarson, 51, of Belgrade, died Wednesday morning, February 4, 2009, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. Interment will be at Nordland Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hawick. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Cheryl Lynn Ditmarson was born on September 12, 1957 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, the daughter of Donald and Joan (Netland) Ditmarson. She grew up in Chicago Heights, Duluth, and New London. Cheryl graduated from New London-Spicer High School with the class of 1975. After high school she went on to graduate from the Minnesota School of Business with an Associate Degree. She moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Dian Bosworth for many years before moving back to Belgrade in 1994. After moving to Belgrade she worked for North American State Bank as a personal banker. Recently she worked for St. Cloud Technical College as the Assistant to The Vice President of Administration.
Cheryl was a member of Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. She was active with the church youth, teaching Sunday school, and as a leader of the youth group.
Cheryl was a very active parent a BBE High School. She was the Assistant Speech Coach, and also the dance line’s number one fan. She enjoyed watching the Vikings play football and spending time with her family and friends. On Saturday afternoons Cheryl would take time to sit down with a glass of wine and watch an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Cheryl was proud to be a breast cancer survivor.
Cheryl L. Ditmarson died on Wednesday morning February 4, 2009 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 51. She is survived by her daughter, Erin Ditmarson of Belgrade; parents, Don and Joan Ditmarson of Belgrade; siblings, Brian (Jettie) of New London, Laurie (Brad) Fossum of Pillager, Dawn Ditmarson of Maplewood, Doug (Jodie) of Sartell, Duane (Pam) of Spicer; many nieces and nephews.

Rachel (Engelmann) Kircher, 84, of Willmar, died Monday, February 2, 2009, at her home. Her funeral will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Rachel was born on June 15, 1924, in Rainhill, Lancashire, England, the daughter of William and Rachel (Worth) Unwin. She grew up in England and after finishing school, she began her nursing career. While she was a nurse during WW II, she became a friend with another nurse who was from Wadena, Minnesota. As a Christmas gift to their daughter, her friend’s parents sent for Rachel to travel to Wadena and visit, it is there in Wadena where she met George in the late 1940’s.
On October 15, 1949, she married George Engelmann in Wadena. Following their marriage, they lived in Minnesota before moving to North Carolina where George taught at Duke University before moving to Willmar in the mid 1950’s. Rachel had owned and operated Rachel’s Uniform Shoppe, and was employed at Butter’s Ladies Fashions before retiring. George preceded her in death in 1988.
Rachel was united in marriage to Wayne Kircher on December 18, 1989 in Willmar. Following their marriage, they lived in Spicer and Willmar. They also enjoyed spending winters in Rio Verde and Sun City West, AZ.
Rachel was an avid golfer at Willmar Golf Club where she won many tournaments.
Surviving are her husband, Wayne of Willmar; children, Joan (and Nelson) Engelmann Whitehead of Las Vegas, NV; Dennis (and Jayne) Engelmann of Willmar; Phil (and Dawn) Kircher of St. Louis Park; James (and Sara) Kircher of Prairie Village, KS; six grandchildren, Vanessa Engelmann, Valerie and Julie Kircher, Jason and Josh Pauletic and her brother, John Unwin of England.
Besides George, her parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Elmo Harlan Wick, age 84 of Brooten formerly of Willmar, died on Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Minneapolis University Good Samaritan Home in Minneapolis. Memorial service will be 11:00am on Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Elmo Harlan Wick was born on August 27, 1924, in Sunburg, Minnesota the son of Andrew and Esther (Erickson) Wick. He grew up in Sunburg where he attended school. He was united in marriage to Melba Gunderson September 12, 1945 in Sunburg the couple moved to Willmar in 1947, where Elmo worked for the Kandiyohi County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator for 37 years. He retired in 1983 and moved to Brooten, Minnesota in 1985. Melba died on December 5, 2002.
Elmo was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar and Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten.
Elmo loved music and played the violin his whole life. He stared playing with Morris Chargo at KWLM Radio on a weekly show. He later played with Harry Forsman Band and the Norskies Band. He entertained in later years at various Senior citizens clubs and numerous functions in the surrounding area. He also taught violin and played in fiddlers contests throughout the state. He belonged to the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America, and the Minnesota State Fiddlers Association.
He is survived by his children: Maggie (and Mel) Bonnema of New London, Ellery (and Jenny) Wick of Red Wing, Douglas Wick of St. Cloud, Rosanne (and Steve) Shinnick of Murdock, Bruce Wick of Hutchinson, Karen (and Ron) Johnson of St. Cloud, Julie Wick of Brooten, Steve Wick of Willmar; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Corinne Baur of Minneapolis.

He was born on October 13, 1967, in Coon Rapids, the son of George and Elaine (Farres) Whiteis. He grew up in Coon Rapids, graduating in 1986, from Coon Rapids High School.
On September 25, 1999, Mike was united in marriage to Stephanie Hedin at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar.
Surviving is his wife: Stephanie; children, Sadie, Ben and Chelsea; parents, George and Elaine of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters, Lisa (Skip) Iverson, Cambridge, and Dawn Saks. Also surviving are his in-laws, Paul and Jane (Augustson) Hedin of New London and other family and friends.

Lucille M. Seastedt, age 96 of Paynesville, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. A memorial service will held in the spring and will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Lucille Marjorie Seastedt was born on August 10, 1912 in Emerado, North Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Ziehl) Johnson. In 1920, the family moved to New London where she attended New London High School, graduating in 1930. On August 9, 1930, Lucille was united in marriage to Austin Seastedt at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Atwater. They made their home Paynesville, where Austin worked with the Standard Oil Co. for 30 years and Lucille worked the City of Paynesville as a librarian for 30 years. Together, Lucille and Austin were able to share in 55 years of marriage before Ausin’s death on April 23, 1986.
Lucille died on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville at the age of 96. She is survived by sisters, Margaret Lundquist of Paynesville and Clearwater, FL and Maxine Meyers of Redwood Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.

David Gronli, 87, of Paynesville, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Paynesville Area Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Military Honors will be provided by the Paynesville American Legion Post #271. Burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.
David Gronli was born on October 10, 1921, in the Irving Township near Hawick, MN. He was the son of Peder and Julie (Johnson) Gronli. He grew up on the family farm in the Lost Valley area of Hawick. He attended District 92 Country School, before attending Paynesville High School for 2 years, walking home after basketball, and track practices. He then transferred to New London High School when their bus started coming into Lost Valley. David graduated with the class of 1941, taking with him many track records. David joined the United States Army in 1942 and served his country during WWII until 1944 when he was honorably discharged. David waited 25 years before starting college at St. Cloud State, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor's Degree in English.
On October 15, 1952 he was united in marriage to Alice Bipes in Milaca. The made their home in Willmar for 5 years, before moving to the New London-Spicer area. After spending many years around Spicer they settled in Paynesville. David worked at a CCC Camp before he became self employed working in the construction industry. He also owned and maintained rental properties throughout his life.
David loved pets, and owned many throughout his life. He also loved sports, especially high school girls basketball, and the Vikings. If David wasn’t watching sports you would find him outside working in his garden, or browsing the local real estate brochures.
David Gronli died on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the Paynesville Area Hospital, he was 87. David is survived by his wife, Alice; sister, Violet Luthens of Spicer; a brother-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ole, Norman, and Arnold; sister, Jennie Valeng.

Lenore Nelson, age 89 of Willmar formerly of Kerkhoven died on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at her home in Willmar. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Saturday at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12pm to 1pm. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Kerkhoven Funeral Home in Kerkhoven.
Lenore Nelson was born on September 20, 1919 north of Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Ludvig and Cora (Nissen) Isdahl. Lenore grew up in the Willmar area and graduated from Willmar High School in the class of 1938. She was united in marriage to Herbert Lowell Nelson in Spicer, Minnesota on February 21, 1946. The couple lived and farmed in the Kerkhoven area and was blessed with two daughters. Lenore and Herbert lived and worked on the farm for over 50 years and moved to Willmar in 2000. Herbert died on June 19, 2005; Lenore continued to live at her home in Willmar.
Lenore was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith, she was a member of Kerkhoven Lutheran Church in Kerkhoven where she was active in Circle and quilting group.
She enjoyed reading, baking and sewing, especially embroidery, and rug making. She was an excellent cook and her family will miss her cinnamon rolls, cookies and fudge. Lenore cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters: Patricia (and Joe) Leintz of Orono, Karen (and Jerry) Kucher of Buffalo; three grandchildren: Krista (and Vadim) Gurevich, Jeffrey and Sean Leintz; two step grandchildren; sister Clara Hickey of Willmar; brother Robert (and Dorothy) Isdahl of Mankato; and several nieces, nephews and special nephew: Jack Hickey of Willmar who had taken special care of Lenore over the years.

Betty Lerew Guyott, 80, of Hutchinson/Willmar, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Funeral services will be 11:00 Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Interment is in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.
Betty Lou was born on August 27, 1928, in West Point, Nebraska, the daughter of Leslie and Freda (Wagner) McAnich. She grew up in the Sleepy Eye and New Ulm area where she attended Sleepy Eye Elementary School and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1945.
On April 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Burrell Lerew in New Ulm. Following their marriage, they lived various communities in Minnesota and South Dakota before moving to the Willmar area in the early 1970’s. Burrell preceded her in death on January 8, 1980. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Hutchinson. She worked as a nurse’s aid for many years in the communities she lived in.
While living near Hutchinson she regularly attended Clear Lake Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Bruce Lerew of Prescott Valley, AZ; Debra Tanke of Joplin, MO; Monty (and Penny) Lerew of Willmar; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Burrell, her parents preceded her in death.

Arlene R. Miller, 79, of Games Lake, died on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in rural Spicer. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London, with parish prayers at 4:45 pm. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arlene R. Miller was born on September 4, 1929, in Belgrade, the daughter of Henry and Theresa (Schramel) Weimerskirch. She grew up on the family farm in rural Belgrade where she was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She received her education from a district country school near her family’s farm. After school she worked at the Ideal Café in Belgrade. Later her sister Marie and she moved to Minneapolis where they began working for American Linen.
On October 16, 1954 she was united in marriage to Cliphord L. Miller at the St. Francis de Sales parsonage. To this union a daughter and son were born. The family made their home in Minneapolis where Arlene continued her work for American Linen. Arlene later took an opportunity to become a cook for the Anoka-Hennepin School District. She worked as a school cook for 15 years, becoming head cook before her retirement.
In 1990 she and Cliphord moved to their retirement home on Games Lake. After moving to the New London area she began work for GlenOaks as a Dietary Aide.
Arlene was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, where she assisted with the elementary religion class.
Arlene enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, working on puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her family will remember her as being a wonderful cook that never needed a recipe to follow.
Arlene R. Miller died on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Rice Memorial hospital in Willmar, she was 79. She is survived by her husband, Cliphord of Games Lake; children, Marcia (Clayton) Betzold of Andover MN, James (Caralyn) Miller of Eagan; 4 grandchildren, Erin, Kimberly, Christian, and Carissa. She is also survived by her siblings, Rosalie Olson of Grand Prairie TX, Gloria (Clifford) Terhaar, of Lowry, Marie (Wayne) Aumndson of Benson, Arnold (Anne) Weimerskirch of Eden Prairie, Joseph Weimerskirch of Belgrade, and Dennis (Nancy) Weimerskirch of Belgrade.

Orlan Garfield Skare, age 82 of Willmar, died on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at St. Cloud Hospital. Memorial service will be 11:00 am on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Orlan Skare was born on January 4, 1927, in Bagley, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Lulu (Hellerud) Skare. He grew up in Bagley where he graduated from Bagley High School in the Class of 1945. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps. stationed on the U.S.S. Comfort in the Pacific Theater. He then attended Bemidji State College and the University of Minnesota receiving a Masters in Business. He married Beverly Steffen on December 28, 1949 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bemidji. He was employed by International Harvester and Josten’s of Owatonna before returning to college to prepare to teach marketing. He retired from teaching at Willmar Technical College in June of 1991. He was a frequent contributor to trade professional journals in marketing, and continued to write instructional packages for use by other educational institutions.
Orlan was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Rice Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and in March of 1993 taught marketing in Moscow, Russia as a volunteer.
He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, served on the Presbytery Social Justice Committee and was a member of the National Education Association.
Orlan enjoyed spending time with his family and music. He was a member of the Norsemen singing group and Kiwanis.
Orlan is survived by his wife Beverly of Willmar; children: Mary Jo Bird of Robbinsdale, Mark Skare of St. Cloud, Sarah (and Brian) Evenson, of Atwater, Eric (and Lori) Skare of Lakeville; five grandchildren: Derrek and Teri Evenson, Matthew, Joey, and Jack Skare; brother Elmo (and Gail) Skare of Bemidji.

Clinton A. Hoiseth, 84, of Paynesville, died on Monday, January 19, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial will be at Paynesville Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Paynesville American Legion Post # 271. A visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5-8:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, and continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
Clinton Arthur Hoiseth was born on March 8, 1924, in Paynesville, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Millie (Ryff) Hoiseth. He attended Paynesville Schools and graduated with the class of 1942. After high school he continued his education a Hamline University. On December 1, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He attended Officers School and earned his wings as a navigator. Clinton proudly served his country during WWII. After the war he returned to Minnesota, and attended Macalister College. He then returned to Paynesville where he joined his father at the family Ford Dealership. The next year he was united in marriage to Janet Linderholm in Belgrade. To this union two daughters and a son were born. The family made their home in Paynesville, in a house that Clinton built next to his parent’s home. He lived there from 1956 until his sudden illness this past month. Clinton and his brother, Keith worked in the family business with their father and they were very proud of their fifty
plus years with Ford Motor Company. They received numerous awards for outstanding customer service and sales. Following his retirement in 1991 Clinton and Janet enjoyed traveling, visiting their daughter in Germany, and creating their own adventures everywhere they went. Clinton volunteered to use his accounting skills at fundraisers for the Paynesville Area Hospital, as well as serving as treasurer for the Senior Center. Clinton was active in the original Paynesville Methodist Church, serving as head usher for 20 years.
Clinton loved to go pheasant hunting in South Dakota with his son each fall. He also enjoyed socializing down town, and having coffee at the Wising Well Café.
Clinton A. Hoiseth died on Sunday, January 19, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet; children Susan (Jack) Love of New York, NY, Jenifer (Tom) Crump of Woodbury, Scott and (Nancy) Hoiseth of Mound; six grandchildren, Eric, Kevin, Allison, Lisa, Catie, and Alex; and his brother, Keith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Millie Hoiseth.

Albert Haglund, age 90 of Willmar, formerly of Rochester and rural New London, died on January 17, 2009 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral service will be 10:30am on Friday, at Salem Covenant Church in rural Pennock. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Albert Haglund was born on April 26, 1918 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Algot and Anna (Murat) Haglund. He grew up in Rockford and attended school and also went to college to study music. On March 16, 1940, he was united in marriage to Bertha Thorson in Rockford, Illinois. Stratton and Wesley where born prior to moving to Minneapolis in 1943, where Albert worked at a glider factory during WWII. In 1945, they bought a farm in Lake Andrew Township, west of New London and Joel and Bertil where born. Albert did farming and taught piano. In addition to playing piano, accordion, and harp, Albert also played the organ and was the organist at the Willmar Assemblies of God for over 20 years and later Salem Covenant Church for several years. Albert worked for 25 years at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center. Music was a major interest in Albert’s life, he and Bertha enjoyed singing together at various functions, and he would play his Swedish Harp at social gatherings. In 1984, Bertha passed away and Albert continued to live on the farm in New London until 1989 when he moved to Rochester, MN. He married Rose Yost in 1989, and they later divorced. He returned to Willmar in 2008 when he entered the Willmar Commons nursing home.
Albert was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith. He was a member of Salem Covenant Church in rural Pennock where he was active as an organist.
Albert is survived by his son’s Stratton (and Diane) of New London, Wesley (and Wendy) of Willmar, Joel (and Norma) of Phoenix, AZ, and Bertil (and fiancé Gail) of Minnetonka; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Laura H. Hille, age 106 of New London, died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Laura Helene Hille was born on September 15, 1902 in rural Paynesville, the daughter of Iver and Gurianna (Sunde) Lorentzen. She grew up on the family farm on the west end of Lake Koronis and attended country grade school in the area. On November 1, 1934, Laura was united in marriage to Soren M. Hille. To this union a son and daughter were born. They made their home on a farm on the east end of Green Lake. In 1946-47 they built a home north of the Old Mill Inn in Spicer where Laura resided until 2006. Laura worked as a homemaker and weaved rugs. Together, Laura and Soren were able to share in 52 years of marriage before Soren’s death on September 30, 1987. Laura moved to the GlenOaks apartments in 2006 and just recently GlenOaks Care Center.
Laura was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in the women’s organizations and Christian service day. Prior to the merger of churches, she served as organist at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Sons of Norway in Willmar and enjoyed weaving, gardening, baking, and making lefse.
Laura died on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 106. She is survived by children, Larry (Meredith) Hille of Fridley and Elizabeth “Toots” (Jim) Van De Riet of Spicer; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Soren; three brothers and six sisters.

Robert C. Mallon, age 83 of New London, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Robert Currie Mallon was born on January 31, 1925 in Minneapolis, the son of George H. and Effie Mallon. He grew up in Minneapolis where he attended school. After his schooling he entered the Merchant Marines where he served until enlisting in the United States Army on November 23, 1943. He served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945 and returned to Minnesota. He later moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked as a truck driver for 40 years. On March 19, 1977, Bob was united in marriage to Loraine E. Tompkins. They made their home in Los Angeles until retiring to New London in 1989. Together, Bob and Lorie were able to share in 31 years of marriage.
Bob enjoyed building and sailing boats and scuba diving while living in California and cross word puzzles in retirement.
Bob died on January 14, 2009 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 83. He is survived by wife, Lorie of New London; three sons from a prior marriage, Roddy (Marvelle) Rolfe of Alexandria, Clark (Paula) Rolfe of Ft. Myers, FL and Robert B. Mallon of Port Richey, FL; Lorie’s children, Kathleen Cloakey of New London and Chris (Kathy) Canton of Coon Rapids; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce Rolfe; Lorie’s son, Steven and 1 brother.

Jake Koetje, 79 of Willmar, died on Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital. The Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church with interment at Cloverleaf Cemetery. Jake was born on August 4, 1929 on a farm in Edwards Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota the son of Jacob and Dora (Schlaak) Koetje. After completing his education Jake enlisted in the U S Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
Following his discharge Jake worked at several jobs before settling in Willmar and going into the Taxi Cab business with his brothers August and Henry. In 1970 through 1980, Jake was in partnership with Don Kennel in catering and John’s Supper Club. In 1980 he took over the management of the V. F. W. Post #1639 in Willmar, retiring in 1994. Following his retirement Jake continued to serve others by delivering meals for Senior Dinning.
Jake was a life member of the V.F.W. and his love for the organization led him to be Post #1639 Commander for four years and Post Chaplin. For several years Jake was also Seam Squirrel for the Military Order of Cooties. He was also am member of the Willmar American Legion Post #167, the Eagles AERIE 2334 Willmar and the Willmar Elks.
Jake is survived by his sister, Henrietta (Koetje) Naber, Renton, Washington, brother Henry of Minneapolis and his nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, August, Harold and Garrett; sister-in-law, Janice Koetje; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Naber.

Viola L. Helmstetter, age 95, of Belgrade, died Monday morning, January 5, 2009, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be held at Grace Lutheran East Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Viola L. Helmstetter was born on May 26, 1913, in Belgrade, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Glauvitz) Kaack. She grew up in rural Belgrade where she attended country school and received her Public Schools of Stearns County Diploma. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade.
On October 18, 1936 Viola was united in marriage to Emil Helmstetter at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Three daughters and three sons were born to this union. The family made their home in rural Belgrade where they farmed. Viola worked as a cook at the Belgrade Nursing Home from 1966, until her retirement in May, of 1976. On December 3, 1978 Emil died, together they shared in 42 years of marriage.
Viola was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade, where she was active in the choir, women’s organizations, and a Sunday school teacher. Viola was also active at the Senior Citizens Center, and Senior Dining Center. She was a member of the Readers Club, and a volunteer with the sing-a-long at the Belgrade Nursing Home for twenty years. Viola also enjoyed needlework, reading, and going on the senior citizen trips. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Viola L. Helmstetter died on Monday morning, January 5, 2009 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, at the age of 95. She is survived by her children, David (Eileen) Helmstetter of New London, Rachel Helmstetter of St. Cloud, Chuck (Carole) Helmstetter of Fargo, ND, Adele (Darrell) Hanson of Duluth, Allen (JoAnn) Helmstetter of Evansville IN; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Detlof Kaack of Belgrade.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Ethel Malmer; 5 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Edith E. Henslin, age 82, of Raymond, died on Monday, January 5, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Funeral service will be 1:30 pm on Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Edith Elaine Henslin was born on September 5, 1926, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the daughter of Lubbert and Johanna (Eckhoff) Reents. She grew up in the Raymond and Clara City area and graduated from Clara City High School. On June 16, 1947, she was united in marriage to Reuben Herbert Otto Henslin in Clara City. The couple lived in Clara City and in 1953 moved to Raymond. Nine children were blessed to this union. Edith worked at Variety Supply in Clara City, at the bank in Raymond, and was a substitute for the United States Postal Service in Willmar and Raymond. She became the Postmaster for the Raymond Post Office where she retired. Edith remained active as an Election Judge and volunteered at Rice Hospital, Bethesda Homes, and Bibles for Missions. Reuben passed away on October 22, 2001. Edith continued to live in Raymond.
She was baptized on December 19, 1926, at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City and was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond.
Edith enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, doing cross word puzzles and traveling. She especially enjoyed the time she could spend with all of her family, and she had many fond memories of times at the lake.
Edith passed away on Monday, January 5, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester at the age of 82 years. She is survived by her children: Barry Henslin of Troy, MT, Rita (and Ed) Buntje of Long Lake, MN, Joy Malo of Grand Rapids, MN, Lori (and Todd) Asche, Kris Henslin all of Spicer, MN, Julie Henslin (and Steve Vossen) of Willmar, MN, Keven (and Robin) Henslin of Champlin, MN, Jeff Henslin (and Simone Moreira) of Brazil and Craig Henslin of St.Paul, MN; twelve grandchildren; and brother, Kenneth (and Betty) Reents of Iowa; sisters: Lorraine Krausert of Austin, MN and Audrey Bunger of Des Moines, IA, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her husband, Edith was preceded in death by her parents and brother Harold and sister Helen.

Lois J. Huseth, age 88 of Brooten died Sunday December 28, 2008 at the Belgrade Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Belgrade Nursing Home with her niece Rev. Anne Howard officiating. A 1 p.m. graveside service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Brooten the day of the service. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.
Lois Jane Huseth was born on July 8, 1920 in Brooten, the daughter of Ole and Hannah (Ingetbritson) Huseth. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. She grew up in Brooten where she attended Brooten Elementary and High School, graduating in 1938. She moved to Chicago in 1940 and later Los Angeles where she worked as a bookkeeper. She retired in 1983 and returned to Brooten where she lived until 2000 when moving to the Belgrade Nursing Home.
Lois was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten and also the churches she attended while living in Chicago and Los Angeles. Upon her retirement to Brooten she became an avid golfer.
Lois died on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Belgrade Nursing Home at the age of 88. She is survived by nieces, Anne Sutherland Howard of Santa Barbara, CA, and Susan Overstreet of Corona del Mar, CA; and nephews, Paul Sutherland of Raleigh, NC, Jim Sutherland of Laguna, CA and John Overstreet of Irvine, CA.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Jean Sutherland in 1996 and Evelyn Overstreet in 2006.

Beulah King, 92, of Willmar, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Franklin. Her funeral will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Beulah was born on January 11, 1916, in Parker, South Dakota the daughter of Peter and Karoline (Christianson) Thompson. She spent most of her younger years near Atwater after moving to Minnesota. Before her marriage, she worked in a restaurant in Willmar. She was united in marriage to Clinton King on August 2, 1941, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Following their marriage, they lived in Willmar and she stayed home to raise their children while Clinton worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. She has been a resident of Golden Living Center for a number of years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church. Her family remembers how she enjoyed playing Bingo, watching AWA Wrestling, crocheting and how she never really acted her age.
Surviving are her children, Marvin King of Longville; Dennis (and special friend, Jane Fischer) King of Willmar; Barbara PanKratz of Casa, AR; Susan (and Robert) Duscher of Hawick; Craig (and Ruth) King of Willmar; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; and her sister, Myrtle Ferguson of Maple Grove.
Her parents preceded her in death, husband on May 17, 1997, daughter, Cheryl, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Geraldine M. Thonvold, 78, of Willmar, died Saturday, January 3, 2008 at St. Cloud Hospital in St.Cloud. Her funeral will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one-hour prior t services at the church on Tuesday.
Geraldine was born on February 19, 1930, in Willmar, MN, the daughter of Barney and Stella (Carlson) Hougen. She was raised in Willmar, attended Willmar Public Schools and remained a lifelong resident of Willmar. She was united in marriage to George L. Thonvold on February 26, 1949, in Webster, South Dakota. Geraldine worked as a bookkeeper for Chet’s Red and White, which became Coborn’s, before retiring in 1990 after 30 years.
She was baptized in the Christian Faith and was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church where she had been active with the Bethel Women’s Unit and the Funeral Service Group.
Geraldine was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Women’s Bowling Association, Women’s Softball League, Card club and Senior Citizens. Gerry dearly loved her family and friends and was the one that made daily coffees, weekly Thursday suppers became a tradition and it was extremely difficult to get an excused absence from Gerry. She as an excellent cook, always sharing her Swedish rice and other delicious foods. She taught us the importance of relationships and taking the time to share a cup of coffee and visit. She enjoyed rose gardening, crocheting, especially afghans for her grandchildren. Bowling, playing cards, Yahtzee, watching her grandchildren’s events, Wheel of Fortune and her daily conversations with Helen were her favorite pastimes. She will be missed greatly and live in our hearts forever.
Surviving are her children, Jackie (and Ron) Payne, Gary (and Kathy) Thonvold, David (and Renita) Thonvold all of Willmar; eight grandchildren, Melissa Danielson, Payne, Jeremy Payne, Kristian, Aubrey, Dain and Wade Thonvold, Sascha Mansson and Chase Thonvold; four great grandchildren, Cole and Brett Danielson, Josh and Brady Payne and her sister, Helen (Bud) Johnson of Willmar. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and several of in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, brothers, Gunnard and William Hougen and sister, Janet Setrum.

Earl Martin Giinthir, 72, of Kerkhoven, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Bethesda Heritage Center. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 6th at Kerkhoven Presbyterian Church in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-8 pm, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be later in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pennock.
Earl was born on March 8, 1936, southeast of Kerkhoven, Minnesota on a farm the son of John and Kuni (Danner) Giinthir. He grew in St. John’s Township where he has lived his entire life. He attended District 77 for his schooling. He helped his parents on the farm and on February 16, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Petersen at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Earl and Jeanette continued to live on the Giinthir home farm and he worked for Nelson Construction, retiring in 1988.
He was an extremely hard worker, enjoyed tinkering with machinery, going to auctions, and watching TV Land.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette of Kerkhoven; children, Renae (and Albert Rosemeier) Giinthir of Murdock; Bryan (and Jill) Giinthir of Montevideo; Scott Giinthir of Clara City; Robin Holmquist of Clara City; 12 grandchildren, Adam, Carlena, Derek, Kaylee, Kayla, Kaitlynn and Austin Giinthir, Allison Beecroft, Mersadies, Cheyanne, Mikala and Cathlene Holmquist; and his siblings, John (and LaVina) Giinthir of Minneapolis; Paul (and JoAnn) Giinthir of Pennock, Helen Kosta of Willmar and Margaret Nash of Kerkhoven.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Minnie Bena Bjork, 96, of Willmar, went to meet her husband, Clifford in Heaven on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Her funeral will be 11:00 am, Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Solomon Lake Cemetery, rural Willmar. Memorials preferred.
Minnie was born on December 16, 1912, in Renville County, Minnesota the 3rd child of 14 children to Jalla and Jennie (DeVries) Ruter. Minnie went to school until the 8th grade, and then stayed home to help on the farm.
On April 29, 1933, Minnie married Clifford Bjork. They were happily married for 63 years and had one daughter, Cynthia.
Years ago, Minnie worked part-time as a cook in North Minneapolis. She also worked at Powell Candy Company, sewed army clothes at Munsingwear, worked at a Gedney Pickle processing plant and painted the interior of houses.
Minnie became a Christian in 1953 and attended Willmar Gospel Hall the majority of her Christian life. She was very bold in telling others about Jesus Christ. She hosted a Bible study in her 2712 DuPont Avenue home in Minneapolis for many years.
Minnie loved people and was very hospitable. She liked to have, fun, play practical jokes, and did not believe in acting her age!
Minnie enjoyed quilting, crocheting doilies and pillowcases, embroidery, cross-stitch, flower gardening, canning, hosting young people as renters, and going to bible conferences.
Minnie spent the last years of her life at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar, Minnesota. She passed away on December 31, 2008 at the age of 96 years and 15 days. Her daughter, Cynthia, preceded Minnie in death in 1996 and in 1997 her husband, Clifford. Minnie was faithful in visiting and loving Clifford daily while he was in the nursing home and is now reunited with him in Heaven!
Siblings that preceded Minnie in death were infant brother, Edwin, Ella, Fannie Orsten, Kate Johnson, Annie Reigstad and George. She is survived by grandsons, Glenn (and Sheila) Holm of Minnetonka and Jeff Holm of Bloomington; great granddaughter, Chelsea; siblings, Martha Reigstad of Willmar; Rosie (and Duaine) Nelson of New London; Victoria (and Albert) Eisenbeisz of Vero Beach, FL: Jeraldine Pates of Willmar; Henry Ruter of Willmar; Martin (and Gladys) Ruter of Hanover and Lewis Ruter of Willmar and many nieces and nephews.

Larry M. Gieseke, 60, of Kandiyohi, died Monday, December 29, 2008 in St. Cloud. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday at First Baptist Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.
Larry Milton was born on November 4, 1948, in Willmar, MN, the son of Milton and Esther (Weigman) Gieseke. He grew up in Willmar, graduating from Willmar High School in 1966. He continued his education at Willmar Community College graduating in 1968 and then graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1972 with an accounting degree. Larry started working for George Fuller, Fuller Electric while he was going to college and began working fulltime for Fuller Electric in 1972. On October 7, 1972, he was united in marriage to Nyla Peterson at First Baptist Church in Willmar. Following their marriage, they lived in Kandiyohi and Larry continued to work for Fuller Electric. In the early 1980’s, Larry purchased the business.
He was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Willmar. Larry was a member of Kandiyohi Fire Department having received Firefighter of the Year Award. He also had served as Mayor of Kandiyohi. Larry enjoyed driving bus, riding his Harley Davidson and walking and spending time with his dog, Brady Moe. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, Drew and Tate.
Surviving are his wife, Nyla; daughter, Gretchen (and Rob) Baumgarn of Willmar; son, Peter Gieseke of St. Cloud; two grandchildren, Drew and Tate Baumgarn; his mother, Esther Gieseke of Spicer and sister, Lynae (and Don Dickerson) Gieseke of Eagan.
His father, Milton, preceded him in death.

Axel H. Johnson, 95 of Willmar, died on Tuesday December 23, 2008, at Bethesda Pleasantview. The funeral will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, with interment in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 5-7 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Tuesday 1hour prior to services at the church. American Legion Post #167 will provide Military Honors.
Axel H. Johnson was born on February 5, 1913, in Alberta Canada, near Medicine Hat. After a short stay in Canada, he together with his parents August and Klara Sofia (Anderson) Johnson, together with his brother Rudolph moved to Bottineau, North Dakota. His father had decided to not “prove up” his homestead in Canada. The family resided on farms near Roth and Carbury, North Dakota.
In 1925, he moved with his family to Superior, Wisconsin where he attended the public schools and the Superior State Teachers College for 2 ½ years. For a time he attended the Duluth Business College during the evenings. He was interested in accounting and enrolled in the International Accountants Society Inc. and completed their 90 lesson course. He successfully passed a written final examination, administered by a Certified Public Accountant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 26, 1941.
He entered the U.S. Army in January 1941. He served on the states and in the Philippians Islands at Manila. Axel was discharged from the Army in January of 1946.
On May 30, 1942, Axel was united in marriage to Irene A. Johnson. From this union there were two daughters, Kathleen Marie and Andrea Lou. Upon returning home from the Army he was employed by the state of Minnesota as an accountant in the Department of Agriculture. In September of 1946, he was employed by the Kandiyohi Cooperative Electric Association, as their accountant. During the next 24 years he worked in various capacities until he was appointed manager. Axel retired in 1980.
He was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar, being a member of various church groups. He served on the church council and was treasure for some time, he also taught Sunday School.
Axel was a member of the Minnesota Rural Electric Cooperatives Accountants Association, as well as the Minnesota State REC Managers Association. He was a member or the United Power Association Mangers Group having served in the official capacities in all three of these associations. Over a period of many years he was active in the American Association of Retired Persons including the local chapter. He taught 55 Alive Mature Driving Classes and served as an AARP income tax counselor for many years. He was a volunteer for the Western Minnesota Legal Service. Axel was also a member of Rice Memorial Hospital Board of Directors from December of 1960 until June of 1974.
On Tuesday December 23, 2008, Axel died at Bethesda Pleasantview at the age of 95 years. Surviving are his daughters, Kathleen Marie (and Steven) Nedrelow, Willmar and Andrea Lou (and Jeff) Dommeyer, Memphis, TN; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Esther G. Johnson of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irene on August 1, 2005, brother, John Rudolph Johnson and sister Dagny Johnson.

Donna Mae Noram 77, of Walnut Grove died on Wednesday December 24, 2008, at Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy. The funeral will be 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove, Minnesota with Rev. Kerry Selseth officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Jackson, Minnesota. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Donna Mae (Heser) was born on October 27, 1931, at Jackson, Minnesota, the daughter of Andrew and Lulu (Boell) Heser. She grew up in the Jackson area where she attended her schooling.
Donna was united in marriage to Thomas Noram. They farmed in the Windom area prior to moving to Walnut Grove area where they continued farming. Donna became a resident of Prairie View Health Care Center in October 1999.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran at the time of her death. Donna had been active with the church women and circle.
Her family recalls Donna’s hobbies of fishing, playing cards, crocheting, making many afghans for her family. Her family also recalls what a wonderful cook she was, making many hot dishes, fresh bread, potato pancakes and the thinnest pancakes. Donna never used a recipe, everything was made by the texture, taste or this just looks right. She loved to travel and spent many winters in Arizona prior to her failing health. She loved her family and looked forward to their many visits and special meals they would bring to her at the care center.
Surviving are her children; Kenny (and Pamela J.) Noram, Walnut Grove, Peggy (and Ken) Bestge, Willmar, Tom (and Wendy) Noram, Walnut Grove, Jim Noram, Currie and Ron (and Eileen) Noram, Garvin; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Darlene Schroeder Alexandria, and Diana Bahde, Midway, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Sally and Phyllis and brother Harold Heser.

Marian I. Nelson, 92, of Kerkhoven, died Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Her funeral will be 11:00 am, Tuesday at Evangelical Free Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be 5-8 pm, Monday at Harvey Anderson Kerkhoven Funeral Home in Kerkhoven and continue one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday.
Marian was born on December 4, 1916, in Stromsberg, Nebraska, the daughter of Gustaf and Betty (Olsen) Sandin. In 1928, the family moved to Minnesota and settled in the Kerkhoven area where she attended her schooling. In 1934, she was united in marriage to Lester Nelson in the Swedish Mission Church in Kerkhoven. They lived in Oregon for five years before moving back to Minnesota settling in Murdock in 1946. Lester died on May 6, 1963. She continued to live in Murdock where she drove school bus for many years and worked at Jennie O’ Foods before retiring in 1988. In 1997, she moved into Kerkhoven.
Marian was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and many dear friends who always found her to be caring and compassionate, curious and interested in the world. She was a lover of God’s creation, people and animals. She believed in living life “One Day at a Time.”
Marian joined her Lord and the angels in Heaven on Christmas Day. Surviving are her children, Vance (and Carolyn) Nelson of Farmington; Carol (and Thomas) Kappes of Medicine Lake; Linda (and Joel) Kennedy of Brook Park; Betty (and Dick) Martin of Spring Lake Park; Donna (and Ron) Hacker of Spicer; Mark (and fiancé’, Mary Kelly) Nelson of Coon Rapids and Debra (and Terry) Jellison of Perham; 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 16 great, great grandchildren; her sister, Betty (and Bob) Watt of Scappoose, Oregon and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lester, her brother, Paul Monroe, preceded her in death.

Violet D. Jensen, 86, of Kerkhoven, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Her funeral will be 11:00 am, Monday at Salem Covenant Church, rural Pennock. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 Sunday at Harvey Anderson Kerkhoven Funeral Home in Kerkhoven and continue one hour prior to service at the church on Monday.
Violet was born on December 20, 1922, in Congress, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Arthur and Cora (Carlson) Nordstrom. When she was about a year old, her family moved to St. Paul and at the age of eight, they moved to a farm north of Pennock. She attended District 15 North. After her schooling, she stayed home and helped her parents’ on the farm.
On July 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Walter Jensen, at Salem Covenant Church. Following their marriage, they lived in Benson until 1952 when they moved into Kerkhoven. In Kerkhoven, she was a member of Home Extension and Kerkhoven Senior Citizens.
She was a member of Salem Covenant Church where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, Deaconess and belonged to Covenant Women and Salem Covenant Senior’s.
Surviving are her son, Arlan (and Diane) Jensen of Grand Rapids, MN; daughter, Shirley Jensen of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Trish (and Nate) Reilley, Tina (and Tom) Sepin, Tammy (and Matthew) Sauer; five great grandchildren, Claire Reilley, Dustin and Dane Sepin, Rannas and Daniel Bell; and her brother, Eldon (and Ruth) Nordstrom of Willmar.
Her parents, husband, Walter on March 25, 1996 and her brother, Gordon, preceded her in death.

Vivian E. Jacobson, 87 of Paynesville died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, at Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Paynesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vivian E. (Bjork) Jacobson was born on October 4, 1921, in the Dovre Township, the daughter of Albin and Nellie (Olson) Bjork. She was raised in rural Willmar where she attended District 76 Country School. On September 18, 1943, Vivian was united in marriage to Donald Jacobson at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Five girls and a son were born to this union. The family made their home in rural Paynesville where they farmed. In the early 1950’s, they moved into Paynesville. For many years, Vivian ran a day care for local families. Donald died on October 30, 1981. They shared in 43 years of marriage.
Vivian was baptized and confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. She was a member of Nordland Lutheran Church in rural Paynesville where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, member of the NLCW, and church choir. She was also active in the community volunteering to work at the Area Center, and scheduling hair care for Koronis Manor.
Vivian E. Jacobson died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville, she was 87. Vivian is survived by her children, Valynn (Dwayne) Putzke, of Winthrop, WA, Faye (John) Hartert of Paynesville, Carol Bras of North Pole, AK, Ruth Almos of Clearwater, FL, Janice (Larry) Mathison of Paynesville, Dave (Barb) Jacobson of Paynesville; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; sister, Ione Rennecker of Kula, Hawaii; sisters-in-law Minnie Bjork, and Margie Chism; many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Donald; parents; three brothers and seven sisters preceded Vivian in death.

Marvin Einer Anderson, age 80 of Willmar died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Golden Living Care Center in Franklin. Memorial service will be 11:00 am on Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7pm on Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Marvin Einer Anderson was born on July 8, 1928 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Mable (Anderson) Anderson. He lived with his family and was raised by his grandparents in Swift Falls where he attended school. He worked in Swift Falls for the creamery. Marvin was united in marriage to Lavon Ihnen at the Minister of the Gospel Church in Starbuck on September 2, 1950.
The couple lived in Swift Falls and moved to Willmar in 1953. Marvin worked for Farmers Produce as a plant manager in Willmar and also worked for Nelson International, Duininck Brothers, J.C. Allan Construction, and the Willmar Cookie Company where he retired at age 62. Marvin retired to Little Norway Lake in rural New London. He entered the nursing home where he had been a resident in Willmar, Olivia, and Franklin for many years.
He was baptized on August 26, 1928 and confirmed on June 14, 1942 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson, and had attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Marvin was a member of the Willmar Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #2334 where he past president and had received the Eagle of the year.
He enjoyed Stock Car Racing both as a driver and owner, and hunting and fishing.
Marvin died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Golden Living Care Center in Franklin at the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his children: Vani (Mike) Phelps of Lakeville, MN, Vicki (Mike) Keith of Savage,
Michael Anderson of New Folden, MN, Verna (Fred) Midbrod of Centerville, MN, Mark Anderson (Joleen) of Clear Lake, MN, Valora Carlson (Jim) of Svea, MN; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Percy D. Paradis, 72, of Spicer died Monday at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday at Evangelical Free Church in Willmar, with private family interment. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. There will be no visitation at the church on Saturday.
Percy Dean Paradis was born November 23, 1936 in rural Marshall, MN, the son of Walter and Lela Viola (Willard) Paradis. He grew up in the Cottonwood area and graduated from Cottonwood High School. In 1954, he entered the US Navy and worked on aircraft aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard, prior to his discharge in 1957. On March 30, 1958, Percy was united in marriage to Virginia Mae Petersen at Marshall Evangelical United Brethern. Following their marriage, they farmed in rural Marshall for 25 years and than in Montevideo for 5 years. He later worked as a flock supervisor for Willmar Poultry Company for 15 years.
Percy always had projects going, whether it was at home or for his children. Most times if it was fixable, he could fix it. He looked forward to times with family, and started preparing early to make sure everything was ready from the beach activities to the pancakes. He was a deeply loved and admired husband, father and grandfather, who left the beautiful legacy of a gentle warrior of the Lord for his family. He was a member of Evangelical Free Church of Willmar where he was an usher and a member of the Care Committee. Percy also volunteered at New2You Thrift Store.
Surviving are his wife, Ginny of Spicer; daughters, Joan (and Daryl) Hoffbeck of Red Wing, Jill (and Tom) Goris of Willmar, Judy (and David) Gatheridge of Waconia; sons, Jon (and Darla) Paradis of White Bear Lake, and Joel Paradis of Spicer; 15 grandchildren and one great grandson. Also surviving are his sister, Donna (and Gene) Vandeputte of Marshall; brother, Mel (and Dee) Paradis of Spicer; sisters-in-law, Grace Paradis of Underwood, Patricia Thielbar of Madison, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lela and Walter Paradis and brother, Victor Paradis.

Dolores Marian Ewoldt, 79, of Kandiyohi, Minnesota died on Saturday December 20, 2008, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 27th at 11:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Willmar, Minnesota. Burial will be at a later date in Paullina, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 pm Friday, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Saturday 1 hour prior to services at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Dolores Marion (Pauling) Ewoldt was born on October 31, 1929, on a farm west of Paullina, Iowa, to Frank and Emma (Hibbing) Pauling. She was baptized on November 17, 1929, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Germantown, Iowa. She was confirmed on April 18, 1943, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Germantown, Iowa. Dolores graduated form Paullina High School in Paullina, Iowa on May 23, 1947.
On April 3, 1949, Dolores was united in marriage to Earl Ewoldt at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Germantown, Iowa. To their union there were three children: Susan, Kirk and Paul.
In October 1967, she and her family moved to Willmar, Minnesota. She was employed from October 1967, until her retirement in 1985, at Molenaar Plastics.
Dolores was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a member of their Ruth Circle and L.W.M. L.. She was also involved with the County Home Extension group and the Willmar Senior Center. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Through the years she taught Sunday School, a member of her church Senior Choir, was a den mother for Cub Scouts and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and doing crafts. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and special visits to see their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren which were so important to her.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; children Susan Lange, Kasson, MN; Kirk Ewoldt and his wife Judy, Long Prairie, MN; and Paul Ewoldt, Elk River, MN. Grandchildren, Chris Lange, Kasson, MN; Amy (and Brad) Holland, Sycamore, IL; Kole (and Kari) Ewoldt, Green Bay, WI; and Matt (and DeAnna ) Ewoldt, Alexandria, MN; seven great grandchildren: Tylor, Dawson and Brady Lange, Ella, Saydie and Ian Holland and Logan Ewoldt.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Francis, two infant granddaughters, Melanie and Melinda Lange and her son-in-law, Greg Lange.

Harvey W. Carter, age 92 of New London died December 22, 2008 at Willmar Commons in Willmar. The service will be 2:00 pm Friday, December26, 2008 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery, Willmar. Harvey W. Carter was born on February 15, 1916 in Carpenter, South Dakota, the son of Ralph and Agnes (Madsen) Carter. The family lived in Carpenter, SD, Gibbon, MN and Hutchinson, MN.
He married Mabel (Maisy) Magnuson on January 10, 1945. They lived in Willmar until 1976 when they moved to New London. He worked for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads his entire life, retiring in April of 1976.
Harvey enjoyed going to threshing shows, old gas engines and antique tractors and machinery. He also enjoyed working and being outdoors at his land near New London. After his retirement, he drove to Alaska. He also traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Nova Scotia.
Surviving are his children Carmen (and Gerald) Koester of Kerkhoven, Steve (and Renae) Carter of Kandiyohi, and Greg Carter of New London; grandchildren, Nick Koester of Kerkhoven, Andrea Koester (and special friend, Joe Gassler) of Benson, Ryan Carter of Kandiyohi, and Krista (and Jason) Mickelson of St. Louis Park; two sisters, Blanche Motley and Evelyn (and Russell) Laraway, all of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; parents; and brothers, Jim Carter, George Carter and Gerald Carter.

Paul Douglas Roelofs, age 57 of Hutchinson died on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7pm on Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Paul was born on June 9, 1951 at Granite Falls Hospital to Henry and Leona (Luitjens) Roelofs. He attended Roseland Elementary School and graduated from Danube High School in May 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1969, where he was stationed in Seoul, Korea. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he attended Mankato Technical College where he graduated with an associate’s degree in graphic arts. Up until his death he worked at Hutchinson Technology Institute where he was a night supervisor.
Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially liked to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter Jessica Wurdak of St. Cloud, son Jordan Roelofs of Hutchinson; two grandchildren; siblings: Mary (John) Piersma of Huntsville, Alabama, Charles (Sandy) Roelofs of Willmar, LuAnn (Leon) Aalderks of Raymond; his parents Henry and Leona Roelofs of Blomkest, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Wesley Anderson, 91, of Kerkhoven, died peacefully, Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Willmar Commons in Willmar. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Evangelical Free Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Kerkhoven Funeral Home in Kerkhoven and continue one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.
Evert Wesley was born on October 24, 1917 in Salem, SD, the son of Reuben and Agda (Johnson) Anderson. The family moved to a farm south of Willmar when he was two months old and then at the age of two, they moved to a farm north of Kerkhoven. He attended District 18 for his schooling.
On July 3, 1941 Wesley was united in marriage to Helen Marie Watkins. Wesley and Helen were able to share 67 ½ years together.
Among the things, he enjoyed were his church, serving as church treasurer and usher, coffee twice a day at Sherrie’s Café, reading, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, farming for years with his father and continuing to farm the same land until his retirement in 1982. For 25 years Wesley and Helen were “winter Texans.” In 1984, they purchased a home in Kerkhoven and resided there until 2003 when they moved into the Freetly Apartments. Wesley moved to Willmar Commons on October 17, 2008.
Surviving are his wife, Helen of Kerkhoven; son, Daniel (and Linda) Anderson of Brownsville, TX; daughters, Connie Katter of Springfield, MO; Darlene (and Bruce) Anderson of Worthington, MN; seven grandchildren, Scott (and Caroline) Anderson, Kirk (and Genelle) Anderson, Heidi (and Brian) Wild, Chad Katter, Jarrod (and fiancée, Tiffany) Katter, Todd Katter and Blaine Anderson; seven great grandchildren, Jack, Garret and Jena Wild, Madison, Ridgley Eleanor, Hunter Anderson and Alexandra Anderson.
His parents, seven sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Joyce Engel, 73, of Willmar, died Monday, December 15, 2008, at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Her funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday at Tripolis Lutheran Church, rural Kandiyohi. Burial will be in Big Grove Lutheran Cemetery, rural Belgrade. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday.
Joyce was born on May 19, 1935, at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Paul and Olga (Sandberg) Lind. She grew up in Hopkins where she attended her schooling. On October 16, 1954, she was united in marriage to William James Engel. Following their marriage, they lived in the Minneapolis area before moving to Kenyon, Minnesota. Jim worked for Moorman Manufacturing (Moorman Feeds), in 1971, he was transferred to the Belgrade area, and they moved there. Following Jim’s death in 1986, Joyce moved to Willmar. She continued her education at Ridgewater College, receiving her AAS degree in 1988. She was an administrative assistant at the Kandi Mall from 1988 until 1999. In 2000, she opened her store Kandi Krafts and Kollectibles, retiring on January 31, 2008.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended Tripolis Lutheran Church.
Surviving is her son, Brian Engel of Duluth; and her daughters, Betty (and Norm) Strehlow of Willmar; Cheri (and Tom) Wright of Willmar; Jeanette (and Mike) Jacobson of Raymond; six grandchildren, Vernessa Engel, Jason Strehlow (and special friend, Jessica Johnson), Riley Strehlow, Alissa (and Kyle) Gambrel, Charisse (and Cameron) Narragon and Sara Jacobson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Ernest Manthey, age 91 of Willmar formerly of Murdock died on Monday, December 15, 2008 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11am on Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
Ernest August Henry Manthey was born on May 12, 1917, in Sparta Township, rural Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Fred and Anna (Vergin) Manthey. He grew up in Montevideo where he attended Black Oak Country School Dist. #7 and graduated from Montevideo High School in the class of 1936. Ernest joined the Civilian Conservation Corps where he was a heavy equipment operator and drove bulldozer, he served until 1939. On December 1st, 1940, Ernest was united in marriage to Nettie Emily Gregersen at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed in the Kerkhoven area. In 1950, they purchased their farm in Murdock and continued to farm until 1974, when Ernest retired from farming and they moved to Willmar. He then began working for Steffen Implement in Raymond for several years. In 1983, he organized the Willmar C.C.C. Chapter 142 and in 2006, he helped purchase the commemorative Civilian Conservation Corps statue located at the Willmar Flags of Honor.
In addition to being active with the C.C.C., Ernest was a Fire Arms Safety Instructor.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Murdock where he served as an usher, and on the church board. He was currently a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar.
Ernest enjoyed being outdoors, whether farming, or fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.
Ernest died on Monday, December 15, 2008 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. He is survived by his wife Nettie of Willmar; children: Gordon Manthey of Sumner, WA, Dianna Johnson of Montevideo, Ronald (Donna) Manthey of Granite Falls, Donald (Deidre) Manthey of Fountain Valley, CA, Erlynn (Jodie) Manthey of Stafford, VA, Arlene (Calvin) Carls of Pennock; daughter-in-law Pat Manthey of Crystall; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Ruth Thayer of Florida, and Bernice Thoe of Montrose, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Alvin and Ervin; and two granddaughters; and his son-in-law, Dennis Johnson

Harland D. Holmquist, 60, of New London, died on Friday, December 12, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the New London American Legion Post #537.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8:00 pm at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake, and continue one hour prior to the services.
Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Harland David Holmquist was born on December 10, 1948, in Dawson Minnesota, the son of Robert and Donna (Windingstad) Holmquist. He attended District 65 Country School until the age of 8 when his family moved to Madison. In 1959, at the age of 11 his family moved to Willmar, where he attended and graduated from Willmar High School with the class of 1966. After high school Harland was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country faithfully in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged. After his discharge from the Army, Harland later joined the United States Army Reserves to continue serving his country for 16 years.
On April 17, 1971 Harland was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karen Lee Seemann. This union was blessed with a daughter and three sons. The family made their home in the New London-Spicer area, moving to their home in New London in 1975. Harland worked for New London Concrete Products for 16 years before spending the last 16 years driving truck for Duininck Inc.
Harland was baptized on February 13, 1949 at Providence Valley Church in Dawson, and was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar on September 22, 1963. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London where he was active on the Church Council, Cemetery Board, and as an usher.
Harland served his community as a volunteer fireman on the New London Fire Department until his retirement on October 5, 2003, he served for 20 years. He was a member of the New London American Legion Post # 537 where he served on the Honor Guard, and as a past Post Commander. Harland was also a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion in New London.
Harland enjoyed life to the fullest. He had many hobbies including: hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, throwing dice and going dancing with Karen. He also enjoyed working on his house, Twins Baseball, and collecting hats. Harland had many reasons to be proud but his prize accomplishment was the completion of the cabin on Diamond Lake that he built with his sons, brothers-in-law, and nephews. His family will remember him as a family man, loving to spend time with his children and grandchildren. The community will remember him as a HERO!

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, mother and father-in-law, Eva and Leadro Seemann, brother-in-law, Wayne Anderson, and sister-in-law, Joyce Engelke.

Jennifer Lynn Bergstrom was born on November 4, 1975 in Missoula, MT, the daughter of John and Julie (Gunter)Bergstrom. The family moved to Paynesville when Jennifer was young. She attended Paynesville Elementary and later graduated from Paynesville High School in 1994. After high school she attended and graduated from the Model College of Hair Design. On July 18th, 1997, she gave birth to her pride and joy, Haley Lynn Thompson (father John Thompson).
Jennifer worked as a hair stylist for Great Looks and Beyond Basics. She took a passion in her work, building an amazing clientele. She enjoyed working to the extent that she would work between her bad days, as her cancer progressed.
Jennifer was blessed with an amazing talent for music. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, playing the guitar, drawing and painting. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.
Jennifer L. Bergstrom passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008 after a courageous battle with breast cancer, she was 33. For six and a half years she defied all odds, inspiring all of us with her enormous strength. Jennifer is survived by her daughter, Haley of Paynesville; parents, John and Julie Bergstrom of Paynesville; brothers, Justin (Lara) Bergstrom of Henning, Joe (Jill) Bergstrom of Sartell; grandfather, James Gunter; best friend, Angie Keiss of Paynesville; nephews and niece, Connor, Isaac, and Emmalyn.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Borgie Gunter and Bernice Bergstrom; grandfather, Donald Bergstrom; aunt, Brenda Gunter.

Jamison “”little guy” Eliason was born on November 23 ,2008 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN, the son of Ashley Eliason. He was home for a few days before having to go to the hospital for what started out as pneumonia.
Jamison is survived by his mother, Ashley and sister, Shathae; maternal grandma, Cheryl (and fiancée, Ramon Rivera) deCathelineau of Willmar; maternal grandpa, Mike (and fiancée, Lisa Nelson) Eliason of Pennock; maternal great grandpa, David deCathelineau of Willmar; paternal great grandpa, Murph (and Jan) Eliason of Kandiyohi and paternal great grandma, Marilyn (and Dennis Ahl) Eliason of Willmar; and an aunt and uncles.

Lois P. Westvig-Moltumyr, 92, of Paynesville died on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday at Paynesville Evangelical Free Church, in rural Paynesville. Inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Fergus Falls at a later date. Lois Pearl Westvig-Moltumyr was born on May 15, 1916 in Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Baldry) McFarlane. When she was a child her family moved to Aitkin, MN. Lois grew up in Aitkin and graduated high school from Aitkin High School. She met Sigvald Richard Westvig at an Assembly of God Church revival. On November 3, 1934 they were united in marriage. This union was blessed with two girls and five boys. The family made their home in Palisade where they farmed until 1964. They then moved to Fergus Falls where they bought the Dairy Queen. In 1967 Sigvald passed away, together they shared in 33 years of marriage. Lois continued to run the Dairy Queen until their son, Marvin bought it in 1969. Lois then moved to Kansas City, MO where she worked for Stonecraft Ministries. In 1978 she was united in marriage to Osborne Moltumyr. They lived in Wolverton, MN for 5 years and then moved to Moorhead. In 1997 Osborne passed away, they had been married for 19 years. After Osborne’s
death Lois moved to Eden Prairie. In 2004 she moved to Washburne Court in Paynesville where she lived until recently when she moved into Koronis Manor.
Lois was a member of Paynesville Evangelical Free Church. She had a simple and solid faith in the Lord. Lois enjoyed leading Bible Studies out of her home throughout her life. Most of all she loved to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.
Lois Peal Westvig-Moltumyr died on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Koronis Manor in Paynesville at the age of 92. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Beulah) Westvig of Aitkin, Marvin Westvig of Fergus Falls, Alice (Bill) Anderson of Eau Claire, WI, Warren (Sue) Westvig of Coon Rapids, Dale (Greta) Westvig of Chanhassen; daughter-in-law, Linda Westvig of Paynesville; 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Sigvald, and Osburne; son, Robert Westvig; daughter, Karen Blume; daughter-in-law, Virginia; a grandson and a great grandson. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Alvin and Orville McFarlane.

Stanley N. Monson, age 82 of New London, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London, where military honors will be provided by the New London American Legion. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Stanley N. Monson was born on June 21, 1926, in Spicer, the son of G. Edgar and Alfreda (Johnson) Monson. His family moved to New London when he was three. He attended New London Elementary and graduated from New London High School with the class of 1944. On June 25, 1944 he entered into the United States Navy. He served his country until June 6, 1946 when he was honorably discharged. On August 21, 1948, Stanley was united in marriage to Maxine Metcalf, at Lebanon Lutheran Church in New London. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. The family lived in New London where Stanley was the manager of Trinity Incorporation, was the owner of Monson Hardware, and also worked maintenance at GlenOaks Care Center.
Stanley was baptized and confirmed at Lebanon Lutheran church in New London. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the church Board and Building Committee. He was a member of the New London American Legion Post #537, New London Fire Department, and New London Commercial Club.
Stanley enjoyed woodworking, and building things. He also enjoyed his time with friends and family especially when he could take them to Regal for chicken!! His family will remember his kind heart, gentle spirit and stellar sense of humor that kept them all laughing, even through his illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Monson; sisters, Mercedes (Floyd) Dilley, Eunice (Gordon) Peterson.

Doris Benson, 94, of Kerkhoven died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Her funeral will be 11:00 am, Saturday at Evangelical Free Church in Kerkhoven. Burial will be in Buffalo Lake Covenant Cemetery, rural Murdock at 10:00 am on Saturday. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Kerkhoven Funeral Home in Kerkhoven.
Doris Luverna (also given the names Dorothea Signe) Carlson Benson was born on December 7, 1914, in Arctander Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. She was the third child and only daughter of Charley and Hilda (Larson) Carlson. She started school at Country School District 86 in Hayes Township, Swift County when she was five years old. She only spoke Swedish when she started school, but no one was allowed o speak Swedish in school. After eighth grade, Doris went to high school in Kerkhoven and boarded in various locations during the four years. She also worked for a time as a hired girl.
After finishing high school, Doris went to Minneapolis and worked for an elderly well-t-do lady in the Loring Park neighborhood. Later, she moved back to Kerkhoven and worked at the butcher shop. It was while working at the butcher shop that Doris became engaged to Harold Benson, a farmer from south of Murdock. They were married on November 22, 1947, at Frank Lake Covenant Church parsonage. Harold and Doris lived and farmed on the Benson home place in Louriston Township, Chippewa County. After her marriage, Doris did not work outside the home/farm. She helped Harold with fieldwork and chores, and throughout her life she continued, and weaving rugs. She always said that she needed to keep her hands busy. She was a part of the Ladies’ Aid at Buffalo Lake Covenant Church and the White Cross group at Kerkhoven Evangelical Free Church.
Just before Harold died in 1975, he and Doris made a trip to visit relatives in Sweden. Doris was able to make another trip to Sweden and do other traveling after moving to Kerkhoven in the fall of 1976.
On Tuesday, December 9, 2008, Doris died at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 94 years and two days. She is survived by her son, Daniel (and Pat) Benson of Murdock; her daughter, Dawn Benson of Kerkhoven; her grandsons, Erik and Troy and her great grandson, Cole.
Her parents, her husband, and her two brothers, Clarence and Reynold, preceded her in death.

Fobbie H. Hoekstra, 95, of Willmar, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar. His funeral will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Willmar Christian Reformed Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to service on Thursday.
Fobbie was born on January 12, 1913 in Roseland Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Anna (Van Der Bleek) Hoekstra. He attended District 91 for his schooling and then he began farming. He was united in marriage to Henrietta Plowman on December 6, 1935, in Watertown, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they continued farming in Kandiyohi County and he did light carpentry work. Fobbie enjoyed helping his children with various fix-up jobs.
He was baptized and made his affirmation of faith at Roseland Reformed Church, serving as an elder and deacon. Fobbie and Henrietta were charter members of First Reformed Church in Willmar, later joining Willmar Christian Reformed Church.
Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Henrietta; daughters, Susan Sands of Willmar; Fay (and Gerald) Marti of Willmar; Ardyce Miller of Sioux Falls and son, Henry (and Betty) Hoekstra of Spicer; 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Anna DeJong of Willmar and brother, Harvey (and Katie) Hoekstra of Willmar.
His parents, three brothers, three sisters and son-in-law, Jim Sands, preceded him in death.

Luverne Clifford Norbie, 82 of Willmar, died on Sunday at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud. The service will be 10:00 am Thursday at First Baptist Church with interment at Fairview Cemetery, Lindstrom, Minnesota. Friends may call from 5 until 7 pm Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Thursday 1 hour prior to services at the church.
Luverne was born in Kandiyohi County on a farm near Spicer, Minnesota, on January 12, 1926, the son of Pearl Norbie-Hopkins and step-son of Raymond Hopkins. During the depression era, Luverne and his cousin Kenny grew up on and helped farm a 320 acre farm by Diamond Lake with his grandparents, Rasmus and Tillie and uncles Luther and Roy Norbie.
Luverne was drafted into the US Navy in June 23, 1944. He served on a supply ship, U.S.S. Lesuth AK125, in the South Pacific. The Lesuth was the first supply ship to enter Tokyo Bay, Japan. He was there with General MacArthur when they signed the surrender and peace agreement to end World War II. Luverne was discharged on July 27, 1946, as a disabled veteran. Following his discharge he attended Dunwoody Institute and a vocational school in Minneapolis.
On March 14, 1947, Luverne was united in marriage to Lois Lindstrom. They lived in Minneapolis for seven years, where Luverne worked at Dayton Company as a cabinet maker.
Luverne and Lois moved to Willmar where they made their home and raised five children. He started working at Montgomery Ward as a furniture salesman, but later was employed by the postal service, which he made his lifetime career. He started out delivering mail and was later promoted to supervisor. Luverne was promoted in 1978, to Post Master at Morris, Minnesota where he retired seven years later.
Luverne enjoyed woodworking and repairing furniture. He built or helped build several houses as well as his own. He loved the outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, gardening and traveling.
He was the Boy Scout leader for several years at First Baptist Church Troop 302 in Willmar.
Luverne believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He served his Savior as Sunday School teacher, deacon, elder and other areas within the church as his daily life.
Luverne is survived by his wife, Lois; three sons. Steven (and Nancy) Norbie, Willmar, Mark (and Barb) Norbie, Willmar, Jeff (and Cheryl) Norbie, Hancock; two daughters, Nancy Holm, Bloomington, and Laura Norbie Willmar; 15 grandchildren, Amy, Luke, Ann, Brittany, Nathan, Nicholas, Justin, Marie, Katie, David, Sandra, John, Haley, Matthew and Justin; 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Betty Lou Manley, Deer River; Janelle VanHevlen, St. Cloud; Janet (and Ronald) Hagen, Willmar; and Cheryl Lukason, St. Cloud; also surviving is his brother, Richard (and Claudia) Hopkins, Spicer;
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Delbert.

Kenneth R. Adams, age 82 of New London, died Saturday, December 06, 2008 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London. Military honors will be provided by the New London American Legion. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Kenneth Roy Adams was born on August 4, 1926 on the family farm near Hawick, the son of Gust and Emma (Widmark) Adams. His family relocated to a farm in Harrison Township where he grew up and attended school in District #4. After his schooling he farmed with family and was a hired hand for farmers in the area. On August 21, 1951, Kenneth entered the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on August 20, 1955 and returned to the area and began farming and raising cattle west of New London. He retired in 2002 and continued to live on the farm until moving in with his nephew, Larry. In 2007 he became a resident of GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
Kenneth was known for his easy going spirit and his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed caring for the animals on the farm, reading, nature and hosting his nieces and nephews on the farm.
Kenneth died on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 82. He is survived by his sister, Mae Amundson of Cokato; seven nieces and four nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ellen, Peter, Mary, George, Philip, Edgar, and Paul.

Donna M. Knopps, age 73 of New London, died December 2, 2008 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Donna Marie Knopps was born on November 21, 1935 in Eau Claire, WI, the daughter of Alva and Violet (Barto) Patton. She grew up in Eau Claire where she attended school, graduating in 1955. On July 23, 1955, Donna was united in marriage to Ignatius Knopps in Eau Claire. To this union three daughters and three sons were born. They made their home in Eau Claire until moving to the Mankato area in 1965, where they lived until moving to the Willmar, Spicer and New London area in 1974.
Among the things she enjoyed were planting roses and working in the garden.
Donna died on Tuesday, December 02, 2008 at Rice Memorial Hospital at the age of 73. She is survived by her husband, Ignatius Knopps of New London; children, Mary (Les) Colen of Hines, Rhonda (Doug) Wolters of Mankato, Steven (Melanie) Knopps of Winnebago, Joseph (Billie) Knopps of New London, Jo Anne (Lane) Zehnder of Burnsville and Donald (Ida) Knopps of New London; 35 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Kaska of Kadatt, WI and Barb Charvano of Sunprairie, WI.
Her parents, three brothers and two brothers-in-law preceded Donna in death.

Oriel D. Ornberg, age 85 of Willmar died on Monday, December 1, 2008, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11am on Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home on Friday.
Oriel D. Ornberg was born on May 27, 1923 in Hertford, England, the only child of George R. and Hilda May (Lowe) Oliver. She grew up in England where she attended grade school. She married Clinton Ornberg on June 17, 1944 while he was serving in the Armed Forces stationed in England. In 1946 she came over to the United States after ten day travel aboard the Queen Mary. The couple resided in Litchfield, Hutchinson, Kandiyohi, and settled in Willmar, Minnesota. six children where blessed to this union. Oriel was a home maker and after Clinton retired she began working outside the home; doing cleaning for the theater and volunteered at the Elderly Day Center at Vinje Lutheran Church. Clinton died on January 20, 1992. Oriel continued to live and volunteer in Willmar. She moved to Independence Place in Willmar on 2003.
She was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar where she volunteered. She was also an activities coordinator for Independence Place.
She enjoyed playing games; cards, dominoes, and word puzzles and knitting. She was a talented seamstress making many of her daughters wedding and bridesmaids dresses.
On Monday, December 1, 2008, Oriel passed away at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her daughters Olivia (John) Hansen of Glenwood, Hazel (Glenn) Onberg of Rosemount, Beverly (Scott) Walling of Germantown, MD, Joan (Doug) Johnson of Farmington; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
