It was Ben Franklin who said that nothing is certain but death and taxes. This article does not deal with taxes, but rather, the other certainty of life. It is a fact that the ratio of death to the population is 1:1.
Everyone dies so a discussion of funeral planning is never irrelevant.

Advance Planning

There are many guides that will assist you with details for your services. Areas to consider include visitation, the funeral and/or memorial service, and burial or cremation. These are obvious decisions one will need to make. Other items to consider that will assist your family include the following:

  • Names and phone numbers of who they should contact
  • Banking and financial information
  • Location of insurance policies
  • Real estate records
  • Obituary information
  • Personal property inventory with special instructions and information pages
  • An updated and accurate will

Inform your family

  • Where your cemetery is located
  • What religious ceremonies you want
  • Any special readings, bible passages or musical selections you would prefer at your service
  • Do you want military service or honors? .
  • Is there a specific charity or organization you would like to receive memorial gifts? .
  • Do you want to name casket bearers?
  • What clothing or jewelry would you like to use?
  • Any preference for your casket?
  • Burial vault or urn?
  • Do you have a marker or monument or would you prefer something else?

Make Time for Discussion

It is important to take time to visit with your family about your plans. This is also an opportunity to visit with them about your estate planning and inform them where your documents are. In addition, you can discuss your health care directive wishes and share with them your funeral and memorial service information.

How Do I Pre-Pay For My Services?

Pre funding your funeral is also an important consideration. We can show you the options that will save your family from any possible financial burden later. You may take out a life insurance policy that would cover funeral expenses, or invest in a funeral trust account or final expense insurance policy. In most situations, funds invested today will be sufficient to cover the total cost of the funeral at the time of need, since interest earned by the funds will offset the effects of inflation.
Government regulations safeguard your investment so funds will always be available for the intended use.
Another important component in your plan is to make sure your loved ones know where your recorded wishes can be found. Each year millions of dollars in government and insurance death benefits go unclaimed because family members do not know where to find the information they need at the time of death.

How you choose to be remembered and the legacy you leave is up to you ...
........ Sometimes it takes more than love.

At Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Homes,
we are dedicated to helping you and your family.
