Following his schooling, Brad returned to the Willmar area and started working at Willmar Welding and Boiler Repair, where he worked for many years. He would later work for the Department of Transportation in Weights and Measures. Brad was united in marriage to LaNae Johnson in Willmar. To this union two daughters were born, Tammy and Shannon. They built their home south of Willmar, where Brad enjoyed hosting family and friends for pool parties. He had a pristine yard and the pool was always crystal clear. They would later divorce. Brad enjoyed watching sports, especially the Vikings and Twins and also singing karaoke. He and his family were very close, they would always get together for birthdays and other special events where they would spend time with each other.
