Bruce “Spoonie” Vogt, 70 of New London, died Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church and for one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Bruce Wayne Vogt was born on December 27, 1948, in Glencoe, the son of Marvin and Jeanne (Keenan) Vogt. He grew up in Glencoe where he attended Glencoe High School, graduating in 1966. After high school he attended St. Cloud State for a short time before returning home and working numerous jobs and owning “Spoonie’s Bar” in Glencoe.
On June 26, 1976, Spoonie was united in marriage to Vickie Bahr. They made their home in Hutchinson before moving to New London in 1981. While in New London he managed the Elks Lodge in Willmar and later the Crow River Café in Belgrade before going to work for Cash Wise where he worked until 2016. He was currently working at Runnings in Willmar. Spoonie and Vickie also worked at the Mexican Hat, their food stand at the Minnesota State Fair every year since they were married.
Spoonie was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golf, watching the Twins and Vikings, feeding the birds and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered and missed for his grumpy wit.
Spoonie is survived by his wife, Vickie of 43 years; sons, Nick Vogt (& partner, Lisa) and Nate (Allie) Vogt; grandchildren, Darrian, Nathan Jr. and Brooklyn Vogt; siblings, Janice Vogt and Jim (Judy) Vogt; Vickie’s parents, Lee and Bev Bahr; brothers-in-law, Tom O’Lenick, Tim Bahr, Phil (Lori) Bahr and Tom (Jayne) Bahr and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pam O’Lenick and nephew, Matthew Vogt.
