Dorothy J. Hawkinson

Dorothy J. Hawkinson, 92, of New London, died Monday, May 13, 2019 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.  Her memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London where visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.  Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.  

Dorothy Janet Hawkinson was born on July 8, 1926 in Waubun, the daughter on Hallen Potter and Lillian (Randall) Potter. As a young girl the family moved to Willmar where she attended Willmar High School. On March 21, 1944, Dorothy was united in marriage to Virgil Hawkinson while he served his country during WWII. After the war, they returned home and Dorothy continued her education and graduated from Willmar High School. They moved to Minneapolis while Virgil earned a degree in agricultural education from the U of MN.  Upon her husband’s graduation, they  returned to central Minnesota. They moved to Spicer in 1962, where she worked as a homemaker and raised their two sons.  

Dorothy was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling to the south west with Virgil in retirement, playing the Omnichord at area nursing homes, teaching knitting and crocheting and painting with oil and watercolors.

Dorothy died Monday, May 13, 2019 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 92. She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Virgil and her two sons, Virgil Hawkinson Jr of Havre, MT and John Hawkinson of Ames, IA. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
