Gilbert “Gil” I. Idso

Gilbert “Gil” Idso, 94, of Willmar, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at his winter home in Mesa, AZ.  His memorial service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 18th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  A private burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church, Cardinal Pride or your choice.

Gil was born in Amenia, ND on March 30, 1925, to Ingham and Geraldine (Helland) Idso. He grew up in Amenia, ND and graduated from Amenia High School in 1943.  Gil served in the U. S. Army during WWII in Guam and Saipan. 

After the war, Gil attended Concordia College and graduated in 1950.  He attended the U of ND for his MA degree in 1954.  Gil taught and coached in several ND and MN areas before coming to Willmar, Minnesota where he taught and coached from1961-1987.

On December 27, 1971 Gil married Cathy Kelder.  Gil and Cathy enjoyed summers at Lake Andrew and also enjoyed many summer travels.  They liked the warmer winter weather of AZ for many years as Gil enjoyed playing softball and tennis.

Gil is survived by his wife, Cathy, his sister, Pauline King and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother Percy and his parents.
