James M. Swart 72, of Spicer, died Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at his home in rural Spicer. His funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday, September 16, 2019, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Philip’s Cemetery in Litchfield.
James Michael Swart was born October 17, 1946, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Anton and Dorothy (Hogstad) Swart. He grew up in rural Spicer where he received his primary school education at Spicer Elementary School and graduated from New London High School with the Class of 1964. After high school, Jim went on to attend Staples Vo-Tech graduating in 1966.
Jim was united in marriage to Kathleen Lahr in October of 1968. This union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. Jim worked in road construction as a heavy equipment operator until he opened his own business, JS Par Shaping specializing in golf course construction. After retirement, Jim moved to Spicer. For the past 15 years, he took wonderful care of his mother, Dorothy, who died on July 6 of this year.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori (David) Reid of Sartell; son, Adam (Stefnee) Swart of Eagan; grandchildren, Casey Swart, Alyssa Swart and Andrew Reid; brother, Donald (JoLynn) Swart of Spicer; sisters, Linda (Jake) Klein of St. Paul and Debra (Jeff) Lorensen of Willmar; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daryl Swart; daughter, Angela Swart; and sister Diane Schultz.
