Marjorie Swanson Obituary

Marjorie C. Swanson, 92, of Willmar, died Saturday, May 11th at Carris Health Rice Hospital in Willmar. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 16th at Refuge Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to her service. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Trimont. www.hafh.org 

Marjorie Caryl Swanson was born December 24, 1926, in Joliet, Illinois the daughter of Trugatt and Dorothy (Carlson) Johnson. As a young girl Marjorie had an awareness of God's presence in her life and her faith remained strong throughout her life. Marjorie attended Trimont High School where she graduated with the Class of 1945. Following high school, she continued her education at College of Commerce for one year. Marjorie started working at the hospital in Mankato.

On September 26, 1947, Marjorie was united in marriage to Roy Swanson in Trimont, Minnesota. This union was blessed with three children. Following their marriage, they lived in Trimont until 1961, when they moved to Humboldt, Iowa. In 1966, they moved to Willmar where they owned and operated Swanson’s Equipment Company. After Marjorie’s sister’s death, Marjorie and Roy took in her nieces and nephew and made them a part of their family.

Marjorie was a member of Refuge Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and deaconess, among other things.  

She had an infectious personality and enjoyed talking to anyone she could. Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Marjorie is survived by her family: daughter-in-law, Joyce Swanson of Rockford, IL, her children: Tera Swanson, Jena (Ryan) Fulton (daughter Samantha), and Brent (Pam) Swanson (son Harrison); daughter, Kristie (John) Nordell of Worthington and their children: Ryan (Moira Donovan) Nordell, Alyssa (Demetre) Skliris (children Pano, Maria, and Yianni), and Todd (Connie) Nordell (children Claire and William); son, Scott (Jolene) Swanson of Willmar and their children: Kelsey (Jordan) Ruter (children Heatley, Elin, and baby due soon), Alida Swanson, and Torin Swanson; Special nieces and nephew: Nikki (Ned) Barnes, Chad Koch, and Heidi (Jeff) Sommer (children Rayeh, Shae, and Joey).

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Larry, husband, Roy and siblings: Robert, Dorothy, Deanna and infant brother.
