Norma P. Tangen

Norma P. Tangen, 93 of New London, died Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins.  A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London where a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.  Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.                                

Norma Phyllis Tangen was born on July 4, 1926, on the family farm in New London Township, the daughter of Otis and Belinda (Roisum) Hjelle.  She grew on the family farm south west of New London where she attended country grade school.  On February 12, 1944, Norma was united in marriage to George Tangen.  They made their home in New London where she worked as a homemaker and babysat for many families. Norma and George were able to share in 68 years of marriage before his death on July 10, 2012.    

Norma attended Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed children, people watching, handwork and baking, being especially known for her famous oatmeal cookies and brown bread. 

Norma is survived by her daughers, Sandra (Don) Amdahl of Atwater and Jean (Joel) Hartelt of Hutchinson, son-in-law, Bob Monson of New London; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.   

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; daughter, Carol Monson; and siblings, Kern, Gertrude and Beatrice.
