Richard Abel, 60, of Maynard, died Wednesday, May 29th , in Lac Qui Parle Lake. His funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, June 5th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Burial will be in Bunde Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Clara City Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Richard Emil Abel was born on May 26, 1959, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Dale and Doris (Maus) Abel. He grew up in the Maynard area where he graduated from Maynard High School in The Class of 1977. He helped his parents on the family farm and began working construction for J & D Grain Elevator in Montevideo. On September 12, 1986, he was united in marriage to Joyce Brouwer at Bunde Christian Reformed Church. Following their marriage they lived in rural Maynard. Joyce died in a tragic car accident on April 12, 1989. Richard began working with the Iron Workers Union in 2000 where he was currently employed.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycle. He loved taking cycle trips whether alone or with his brothers or with friends to the west coast, Grand Canyon and Seattle. He loved children especially his nieces and nephews and their children. His family remembers his love for dancing and spending time with family.
Richard is survived by his sister, Kathleen (and Tim) Wallace of Atwater; brothers: Bruce (and Katherine) Abel of Montevideo, Alan Abel and Charles (and Elizabeth) Abel, both of Maynard; nieces and nephews: Elizabeth, Maggie, Tara, Alysia, Bryan, Darin, Eric, Ernie, Richard, Chad, Jason, James; step-nephews and niece: David, Andrew, and Haily Kocher; 17 great-nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger and Gary; nephews: Joshua Abel and Matthew Abel.
