Robert Eugene Strutz

Robert E. Strutz, 93, of Willmar, died Friday, April 26th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 1st at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to his service at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Willmar. www.hafh.org

Robert Eugene Strutz was born on May 22, 1925, to Gustav and Katherine (Holbelsberger) Strutz in South Shore, SD. He grew up in South Shore where he attended school. When he was 13 years old, Bob started working for Great Northern Railroad which eventually became Burlington Northern Railroad. He continued to work for the railroad until retiring in 1987. On June 7, 1952, Bob was united in marriage to Marles “Mickey” Stratton in Watertown, South Dakota. This union was blessed with four children. Following their marriage, they lived in Watertown until Bob was transferred to Willmar in 1963. Bob was a kind and generous man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was caring and thoughtful, even carrying Mickey’s purse wherever they went. Bob enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing with his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his children: Michael (Catherine) Strutz of Willmar, Jeffrey Strutz of Willmar, Scott Strutz of Willmar, and Jennifer (Tom) Abeyta of Benson; grandchildren: Sara Strutz, Adam Strutz, Samantha Strutz, Jessica Strutz, Travis Abeyta and Trey Abeyta; great-grandchildren: Abigail, Andrea and Loki. He is also survived by his siblings: Tom (Betty) Strutz of Sioux Falls, SD, and Katherine Weeks of Watertown, SD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey; parents; and siblings: John Strutz, Ted Strutz, Bill Strutz, Mary Anderson, Helen Jepp, Amanda Bell, Bertha Ries, Ann Solminski and Teresa Strutz.
