Waldon Jonny Nelson

Waldon J. Nelson, 95, of Kerkhoven, died Sunday, October 13th at Glacial Ridge Health System in Glenwood. His memorial service will be at 10:00 am, Monday, October 21st at Bethel Baptist Church in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will be in Kerkhoven Evangelical Free Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Waldon Jonny Nelson was born December 13, 1923, to John and Ruth (Nyquist) Nelson in Kerkhoven. Waldon grew up active in the church where he enjoyed singing. He also enjoyed singing beautiful duets with his aunt, Elsie Johnson. Waldon started working for his uncle, Sam Nyquist, at Nyquist Trucking Service where Waldon enjoyed hauling livestock to South St. Paul along with many other locations. He loved his job and after his uncle Sam Nyquist died, he took over the business. He continued to work there until retiring. Waldon lived in the Kerkhoven area all of his life where he made many friends.

He is survived by his nephews: James Johnson and Sheldon (Maurine) Johnson of Monticello; special friend: Shirley VanWinkle; along with other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Elsie (Laverne) Johnson, and infant brother: Wilton; aunt: Ella; uncle: Sam; and nephew: James Johnson.
