Allan Molenaar Obituary

Allan John Molenaar, age 88, of Spicer, MN passed away March 24, 2020 at Glen Oaks Senior Living Campus in New London, MN.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1931 to Peter and Josie Molenaar, the youngest of three sons. Allan graduated valedictorian from Renville High School in 1949 and attended two quarters of college at the University of MN. He purchased a farm southeast of Willmar in 1951 and was married to Virginia Sorenson in 1952. They had four children - Helen, Jean, Mark, and Paul.

Allan farmed for seven years in the 1950's and then owned and operated a John Deere Implement company in Willmar with his brother Les until 1963. They sold this business and established Molenaar Inc., a toy and advertising specialty manufacturing company. Eventually this business was sold and Allan pursued his true passion of creating and operating Long Lake Antiques. His business was closed June 2019 due to Allan's failing health.

He was a life-long member of the Willmar Unitarian Church and can be described as a self taught man and free thinker. Allan's interests included antiques, life-long learning, reading, history, and philosophy. He loved cuddling his two miniature Maltese – Athena and Lulu. He was very proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Molenaar, Gurnee, IL.; brother, Lester, Willmar MN; and parents, Peter & Josie Molenaar, Willmar MN. Allan's brother, Robert, of Cannon Falls, MN passed away two months later in May 2020.

Allan is deeply missed and lovingly remember by his fiancée, Louise Ziemer, New London, MN; children - Helen (Michael) Neudecker, Little Falls, MN; Jean (Jim) Cochran, Lakeville, MN; and Paul (Shirley) Molenaar, Willmar MN; daughter-in-law, Susan MacPhail-Molenaar, Gurnee, IL; nine grandchildren - Maggie (Dusty Wilson) Neudecker, Barnum, MN; Ashley (Michael) Brausen, South Haven, MN; Erin Kunesh, Portland, Oregon; Ryan Cochran, Mankato, MN; Rachael Molenaar, St. Paul, MN; Becky (Kevin) Cortez, Cedar Rapids, lowa; Rosie Molenaar, New Ulm, MN; Theresa Molenaar, Park Rapids, MN; and Tom Molenaar, Willmar, MN; and 4 great-grandchildren - Cora and Natalie Brausen and Lydia and Felix Wilson.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on July 2, 2020 at the Paul and Shirley Molenaar farm, 3680 45th Ave. SE, Willmar, MN. Visitation begins at 9:30 am with the service at 10:30 am. Masks are highly recommended and social distancing will be observed. A lunch will not be served due to Covid-19.

Memorials can be made to the Willmar Unitarian Church, Humane Society of Kandiyohi County, Willmar, MN or St. Croix Hospice, Sartell, MN.
