Allen Anderson was born on April 29, 1933, to Selmer and Christine (Heieie) Anderson in Greenbush, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Allen graduated from Karlstad High School in 1951. After high school, he entered the U.S. Army and faithfully served his country from 1953 to 1955.

On March 23, 1957, Allen was united in marriage to Marian Haug in Minneapolis. They first made their home in Minneapolis before eventually settling in the Brooten area and later in Belgrade. Allen managed the Belgrade Co-op for 25 years and continued to work for another 25 years into his retirement, a job he truly enjoyed. He was well known for his strong work ethic and dedication.

Allen was a longtime member of Big Grove Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and as an usher. He was also a proud member of the Brooten American Legion and on the board of directors at Bonanza Valley State Bank. Some of his fondest memories were the winters he and Marian spent in Texas. Allen loved woodworking and frequently built items for others—his birdhouses were among his finest creations. Above all, Allen loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Allen is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Pelkey; daughter-in-law, Tamie Anderson; grandchildren: Kristen Anderson, Aaron (Tanya) Anderson, Michelle Anderson, Charlie Pelkey, Justine (Issac) Pelkey, and Andrea (Craig) Pelkey; as well as 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; son, Arlen; great-granddaughter, Ellianna Anderson; his parents, Selmer and Christine; and his siblings: Orville Anderson, Marion Mattson, and Bernice Germundson.
