Alvin Harvey Hagen

Alvin Harvey Hagen, 94, of Kerkhoven died Saturday, June 21, 2025. His memorial service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, June 27th at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org

Alvin Harvey Hagen was born April 14, 1931, to Iver and Hilda (Oftelie) Hagen in Fosston, Minnesota. He attended King’s Lutheran Church and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1945.  Alvin attended school in Fosston and graduated in 1949. During his school years he enjoyed all sports and sang in the choir. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and honorably served for one tour during the Korean War. Al was united in marriage to Joan Diane Farney on March 15, 1953, in Fargo where the couple lived and worked. The couple was blessed with three children: Brad, Greg, and Valorie. He attended Moorhead State Teachers’ College and graduated in 1956. The family moved to Kerkhoven, Minnesota where they made their home and Al taught art, math, and industrial arts from 1956 to 1990. During his teaching career he earned many local and state honors: Birch Coulee teacher of the year, he was nominated for the Minnesota Teacher of the Year, and served as Secretary of the Minnesota Industrial Arts Association. He was an active member of Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. Al enjoyed woodworking, carving, craft shows, hunting, fishing, and golfing throughout his life. He had a great love for music and for studying the Bible. He also enjoyed traveling with his family to the west coast. Alvin was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, love for his family and friends, and his faith in God.

Alvin is survived by his children: Brad Hagen of Buffalo, Greg (Mary Kay) Hagen of Brooten, and Valorie (Allen) Tuff of Dawson; grandchildren: Lisa (Grant) Peterson, Paul Hagen, Kristen (Adam) Westby, Raeann (Collin) Kor of Dawson, Julie Bohmer, Jennifer (Mike) Lehner, Jaime (Brittany) Tuff, Jarod (Amber) Tuff; 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joan; his parents, eight sisters, one brother, cherished friends and family members.
