Alvin Watkins Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin Watkins, who departed this world on May 6th, 2025, at the age of 81. Al was a cherished member of our community, a beloved brother, father and a dear friend to many.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church of Litchfield.

Born on July 2,1943, in Litchfield, Al grew up with a spirit of music, sport and humor that touched everyone he encountered.

Al graduated from Litchfield High School. After high school, Al served in the US Army as a Radio Operator in Germany from 1965 to 1966. Once he completed his service, he worked as a Department Manager for Juba’s Super Value in Willmar until it closed. He completed his career working for Bernick’s Pepsi in St. Cloud.

Al was known for his passion for playing all kinds of sports. Following his older brothers and friends playing baseball, basketball, bowling growing up. As an adult he would bowl on several teams with his brothers and father. He took up golf and played until his health didn’t allow. He participated in several pool leagues over most of his adult life as well.

Friends and family remember Al as a person with musical talent, a warm smile, and a great sense of humor. He had an extraordinary ability to make others feel valued and appreciated.

Alvin is survived by his son, John (Jen) Watkins; granddaughter: Shaliee May, Teagan, Averan and Haydan Watkins; great-grandson: Alan; and great-granddaughter: Angelica. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Jolene May; wife: Dianne Keller; parents; brothers: Ray, Harold, Marvin, Donald, Maynard Watkins; and sisters: Evelyn Reinke and Dorothy Lindemann.

A special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Bethesda Nursing Home in Willmar for the wonderful care of Al. He was definitely cared for by their staff beyond words.
