Ardis Hookom Obituary


Ardis K. Hookom, 91, of Brooten, died Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Hope Presbyterian Church, 7730 N. Shore Dr., Spicer, MN. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, MN and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London, MN.

Ardis Kleon Eliason, only child of Knute and Aggie (Palmeson) Eliason was born in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, MN on March 12, 1927. She was confirmed at East Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. K. R. Palmer. Ardis attended country school in District 47 and District 96, both in Pope County, then went to high school in Glenwood, MN and graduated in 1945. She continued on to “Normal Training” in Glenwood and received her teaching degree. After teaching in rural schools, Ardis completed her bachelor degree and taught elementary school in Sunburg, Belgrade, and Elrosa. She continued teaching for forty years. Ardis loved, and was loved by, her many students.

Ardis married Albert Hookom on September 22, 1949, at East Zion Lutheran Church in Pope County and they celebrated 66 years of marriage together until Albert passed away in 2015. They had no children. Ardis and Albert loved to travel and traveled to nearly every state in the USA. They traveled abroad to all of the Scandinavian countries. They owned a motor home and used it to spend winters in Texas and to go fishing in northern Minnesota and Canada.
Ardis and Albert lived in Brooten for 62 years of their married life, but moved to Glenwood Estates for health reasons in 2012, where each lived to the end of their lives. Ardis died after a short stay in the Starbuck Nursing Home on April 18, 2018.

Ardis was the chairman of the annual flower show at Bonanza Valley State Bank and an active member of “Red Hats”, Zetetic Study Club, Brooten Presbyterian Church, and Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer, MN.
Ardis is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Knute and Aggie Eliason, and her husband Albert. Ardis was a very kind and gentle lady and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
