Arlene Ekren, 88, of Willmar died Thursday, February 1st at CentraCare Monticello Hospital. Her funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 7th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Wednesday one hour prior to her service at the church. Interment is in Clover Leaf Cemetery in Willmar. Arlene Ethel Merlaine was born July 19, 1935, to Reuben and Ella (Olson) Erickson on the farm in Norway Lake Township. She was baptized and confirmed at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church. Arlene went to Country School Dist. 72, through 8th grade, then on to Brooten High School, graduating in 1953. She worked for different families doing housework and helped care for babies, until she got a job at the Sunburg Creamery, where she worked for 10 years. On June 12, 1965, she was untied in marriage to Harold Ekren at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Rosanne. They made their home in Willmar. Arlene and Harold enjoyed traveling all over the US, as well as Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Arlene enjoyed hosting family and friends at their house, and always had a cup of coffee and something sweet to offer any guests. Arlene was also active in her church where she served in the Women’s circle, Altar Guild and Advent festival. She was a loving and devoted wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend.
Arlene is survived by her daughter, Rosanne (Mark) Stoltz of Bloomington; two grandchildren: Emily and Christopher; and siblings: Lester Erickson, Ronnie Erickson, Karen (Stan) Hillers and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, parents, sister-in-law Marva Erickson, nephew David Erickson, and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
