Arlyne M. (Kvernes) Berghuis

Arlyne M Berghuis, 89, formerly of Clara City died Wednesday, March 30th at Copper Leaf Memory Center in Willmar. Her Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to her service. Burial will be at Bethany Reformed Cemetery in Clara City. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota. www.hafh.org

   
Arlyne was born on July 5, 1932, to Alfred and Helen (Dusterhoft) Kvernes in Renville, Minnesota. She graduated high school in Renville in 1950.  After graduation, Arlyne worked for the Renville Co-op Creamery.  She was united in marriage to Roger Berghuis on October 28, 1950, in Glencoe. In their early marriage years, Arlyne traveled with Roger to his various road construction projects around the state of Minnesota.  They settled in Clara City in 1962 where they remained until 2017; after which they moved to Cooper Leaf in Willmar. Arlyne worked at the drug store in Clara City for over 30 years.  She loved working in retail and pharmacy because she was able to interact with so many people from the community. Arlyne and Roger spent many winters in their retirement in South Padre TX and Florida.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and received a 50 year continuous membership certificate in the fall of 2021, and she was a long-time volunteer election official in Clara City.

Arlyne was a loving and giving woman. She enjoyed spending time visiting with her lady friends over coffee every day at the local café. She loved to cook and was well known for keeping a very tidy home and yard.  She cherished the time spent with all of her neighborhood friends, and her close girlfriends at Lake Florida and Diamond Lake.  Arlyne came from a small family and always maintained close relationships with her cousins.

She is survived by her children, son, Jeffrey (Sharri Lindgren) of Willmar; and daughter, Tammie (Tim Ewers) of Maple Grove; 3 grandchildren:  Jennifer Hanson (Brett Krupke) of New London, Brent (Mae) Berghuis of Northfield, and Tracy (Jeremy) Payne of Willmar; 6 great-grandchildren, & 1 great-great grandchild.  Also survived by sisters-in-law: Edith (Harold) Ahrenholz of Willmar; Arvilla (Donald) Berghuis of Litchfield, brothers-in-law: Gordon (Borgie) Berghuis of Grove City, and Dallas (Sharon) Berghuis of Clara City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Arlyne is preceded in death by her husband, Roger, son Kevin, her parents, her younger brother, Alan, and in-laws, Harry and Mabel (Hebrink) Berghuis.
