On Sunday, May 17, 2020 Arnie Baumann, of Willmar, MN, formerly of New Ulm MN, passed away at the age of 92.

Arnie was born on October 4, 1927 in New Ulm, MN to Anton and Anna Baumann. He attended school in New Ulm, graduating from Cathedral High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon honorable discharge he married the love of his life, Bernice Roiger. They were married for sixty-nine years and raised four children.

Arnie made his living in the grocery business. Starting with his first job at Domeiers in New Ulm, followed by Arnie’s in Anoka then Madsen’s in New Ulm, and finally Juba’s in Willmar.

Arnie took a genuine interest in everyone he met. He remembered details of their lives and enjoyed updates on their families and interests. He was a people person in everything he did.

In addition, Arnie was a sports enthusiast. He never missed any of children’s games and often showed up just to watch practice. He also followed pro sports. He had a sharp mind and an excellent memory and could quote stats, rosters and standings. A highlight, for Arnie, was attending two Twins games sitting in the champion section.

Most important to Arnie was his faith and his family. He acted on his faith in the in the way he treated people, never judging, always a kind word and often a prayer. He loved his family, provided for them, was a caregiver, an ego-builder, and the first with an offer to help.

Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tony Baumann, Sister in law, Eleanor (nee Campa) Baumann, Brother in law Frank Reiger and wife Bernice Baumann

He is survived by sister Helen Reiger, brothers Bernie (Helen) Baumann, Bill (Diane) Baumann

Surviving also are his children, Judy (Douglas) Gustafson, Steve (Brenda) Baumann, Deb (Mike) Henkelman and Rick (Muggs) Baumann. Grandchildren, Mark Gustafson, Chad (Katie) Gustafson, Stephanie Baumann, Jeff (Taylor) Baumann, Tyler (Taylor) Henkleman and Caroline (Aaron) Riippa

Four great granddaughters arrived in Arnie’s life in his last three years, Palmer Baumann, Liv Gustafson, Alice Riippa, and Lita Henkelman. They were a great joy to him.

A funeral mass, with immediate family only (due to Covid 19 restrictions), will be held on Friday May 22, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church, Willmar MN. Others can attend the funeral service online. Please contact a family member for details.

Memorials preferred to Vistaprairie at Copperleaf Senior Living Community
