Beatrice Bertine Anderson was born on November 12, 1924 in Boyceville, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Tilda (Flygstad) Peck.  She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Boyceville where she graduated in 1942.  She continued her education at St. Olaf college in Northfield graduating in 1947.  Bea’s first teaching job was at Atwater High School, where she met a wonderful man, Sherlin Anderson.  Four years later, on December 30, 1950, they were united in marriage.  They made their home in Atwater for a short time before moving to Willmar to start a family, and had a son and a daughter.  She returned to teaching in Atwater in 1960 and continued her own education over the next few years, receiving her degree in Special Education.  In 1969 she accepted a job with the Willmar Public School and began teaching special education at the Willmar State Hospital in the adolescent unit.  While working there, Bea helped to develop a new program called ABLE, that was run at the Willmar Vo-tech to help the students at the adolescent unit learn job skills.  She continued working there until her retirement in 1990.

Bea was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church where she was involved in bible study, circle  and the quilting ladies.  Bea was a member of multiple book clubs and would read several books at one time.  She knitted with purpose and donated hats to babies and soldiers and prayer shawls to the elderly.  She was available to go shopping and to lunch at a moments’ notice.  Bea was an avid TV sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching college sports.

Bea is survived by her children, Douglas of Spicer and Karen (Gery) Doroff of Howard Lake; four grandchildren, Adam Rustad, Benjamin Doroff, Kelly Doroff and Holly (Chen) Liu; great-granddaughter, Ivory Rose Liu; and siblings, Glen Peck and Jule (Audrey) Peck.

Bea is preceded in death by her husband, Sherlin; parents and sisters, Erma and Lorraine.
