Brian Lee Baerwaldt was born on June 9, 1960, in Ortonville, Minnesota, to Morris “Bud” and Donna (Tate) Baerwaldt. He graduated from Ortonville High School in 1978 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He lived in Ortonville, MN, growing up and early adult years before moving to Willmar, MN, where he spent almost 30 years - building strong friendships in both communities. Following the decline of his mother’s health, Brian returned to Ortonville to care for her.

Over the years, Brian had a strong work ethic and held various jobs in both Ortonville and Willmar, including working at the family restaurant, Mr. Bud’s, as well as McMillan’s, Giovanni’s Pizza, and Berkner’s Pizza. When his health no longer allowed him to work, he dedicated his time to volunteering at the Ortonville nursing home.

Brian was a die-hard fan of Da Bears and Minnesota Twins with an incredible knowledge of sports. There wasn’t a game or player he didn’t seem to know. Some would call him a human encyclopedia. He also loved bowling, with trophies to prove it. On warm, sunny days, you could often find him outside, soaking up the sun and listening to rock n’ roll music. Some of his happiest moments were spent simply sharing a cup of coffee and conversation with friends and family. He made connections with people everywhere he went.

On April 14, 2023, Brian was involved in a car accident that led to a decline in his health. He later spent time in the care of various nursing homes and hospice care. His family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care he received.

Brian will be remembered for his smile, his laughter, and his appreciation for the simple joys in life.

He is survived by his brothers, Robin (Violet) of Big Stone City, South Dakota, and Randy (Deb) of Bowling Green, Ohio; his uncle, Richard (Cathy) Tate; and his nieces and nephews: Les (Rosie) Baerwaldt, Marissa (Eric) Croatt, Megan (Keinen) Bousquet, Jessica Baerwaldt, Amanda Baerwaldt (Eric Czerwinski), Kari (Tony) Green, Keegan Stock, Caitlin Stock, and Bryn (Kelsey) Stock, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Donna; his sister, Val; and his beloved beagle, Bo.
