Calvin Petersen Obituary

Calvin Paul Petersen, 86, of Willmar, died Thursday, May 22 at his home in Willmar. His funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, May 31 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Raymond. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday and continue one hour prior to the service all at the church. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Calvin Paul Petersen was born on May 19, 1939, in Wang Township, Renville County, the son of Andrew and Johanna (Kramer) Petersen. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. In March 1943, the family moved to a farm in rural Raymond. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on March 29, 1953. He graduated from Raymond High School in 1958.

On September 15, 1961, he married Maydean Lucille Sebring at First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. Calvin was drafted on December 7, 1961, and went to serve in Thailand for a year. He was discharged on December 7, 1963. He farmed near Raymond until 1972, and then moved south of Willmar until his passing.

Calvin worked for Norling, Elk River Tile Plant, and Willmar Public Schools for 24 years until retiring in 2002. He raised sheep, cattle, pigs, poultry, and crops all of his life. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Raymond, and served on the church council. Calvin was a member of American Legion Post 420 in Raymond. He volunteered for Kandiyohi County 4-H at the Blue-Ribbon auction and food stand.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Maydean; children and grandchildren: Dwight Petersen and Olivia of Willmar; Mark (Amanda) Petersen, Elizabeth (Abbie) Monroe of Duluth, Haley, and Johanna of Willmar; VaLoris (Tony) Anderson, Laura, Heidi, and Peter of Atwater.
He is further survived by: sister-in-law: Anita Petersen of Raymond; nephews and great-nieces and nephews: Craig (Heather) Petersen and Malinda and Evan of Raymond; Loren (Marci) Petersen and Tim and Jasmine of Minneota. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Paul (Sandra) Sebring of Raymond; Linda Cooley of Urbandale, IA; Terry (Janice) Sebring of Clarksville, TN; Alice (Marvin) Aasen of Willmar; Iris (Gordon) Rocha of Sioux City, IA; John Sebring of Svea; Beverly Hasbrook of Paynesville; Janice (Kevin) Noor of Everett, WA; Brenda (Paul) Tuve of Raymond; and Michael Sebring of Willmar — along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Virgil Petersen; daughter-in-law, Deborah Petersen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Darrell (Patricia) Sebring, Karen Sebring, Roy Sebring, Judy (David) Nephew, Ron Cooley, and Gary Hasbrook.
