Carmen S. Olson

Carmen S. Olson, 84 of New London, died Friday, April 3, 2020 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.  A private committal service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.                                               

Carmen Sandra Olson was born on February 2, 1936, on the family farm north east of Green Lake, the daughter of Soren and Caroline Pederson.  She attended New London High School graduating in 1954. On September 10, 1960, Carmen was united in marriage to Richard Olson.  They made their home on the family farm near New London where she helped Richard farm and worked full-time at several places in Willmar before retiring from Molenaar’s after 40 years. In retirement she loved helping as a foster grandparent at Prairie Woods Elementary in New London. 

Carmen was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London.  She enjoyed helping on the farm, being a foster grandparent at school, bird watching, baking, her farm cats and spending time with family.  She will be remembered for her huge heart and always putting others before herself.

Carmen died on Friday, April 4, 2020 at GlenOaks Care Center at the age of 84.  She is her survived by husband, Richard of 59 years; nephews, Ron (Barb) Berkeland, Donn (Becky) Berkeland, Alan (Kathy) Olson and Gary (Rita) Olson and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Harriet (Otto)Berkeland.
