Carroll Lee Sarsland

Carroll Lee Sarsland, 75, of New London, died on November 16, 2021, at Rice Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Living Word Lutheran Church near New London.  Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in Burbank Cemetery near New London.   A live stream may be viewed at New London Living Word - YouTube.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Living Word Lutheran Church sanctuary building fund.  

Carroll Lee Sarsland was born on February 25, 1946, to Clifford “Slim” and Lois (Price) Sarsland.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London. He attended New London-Spicer High School and graduated with honors in 1964.  On June 4, 1966, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Donna McLaughlin at First Presbyterian Church in Spicer.   They built their home on his grandfather’s farm north of Lake Monongalia where they farmed over 1000 acres, raised 200 beef cattle, and rode Cochise to cut the cattle.  He also worked for over 20 years for Willmar Poultry as a flock manager throughout the Minnesota valley area.

Carroll was a member of Living Word Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and was instrumental in getting the playground equipment for the children.  He enjoyed morning coffee with his friends at Pete’s Surplus, hunting with the “tally-ho boys”, working his trapping line, and going for four-wheeler and snowmobile rides.   He and Donna enjoyed retirement and fishing the area lakes together.  He loved to read history and mystery books and outdoor sports magazines.  He served as chairman of Burbank Township Supervisor for over 25 years and as chairman and president of the Kandiyohi Township officers.    He will be remembered as a family-valued patriot. 

Carroll died on November 16, 2021, at Rice Memorial Hospital at the age of 75 years.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna; children, Corina Sarsland of Rockford, Carmen (Mike) Macik of Belgrade, Colleen (Kevin) Sarsland of Willmar and Cody (Becky) Sarsland of Belgrade; grandchildren, Andrew Clancy, Aaron (Kalley Stage) Clancy, Arica (Jesse Schaeffer) Clancy, Alison Sarsland, Lexi Macik, Troy Sarsland, and Trae Sarsland; great-grandchildren, Alice Clancy and Grayson Clancy; sisters, Delores (Dick) Edwards, Mabel Dahl Peterson and Connie (Al) Long.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Walter and twins, William and Willis; and brothers-in-law, Lyle Dahl, and Dale “Pete” Peterson.
