David E. Strand

David E. Strand 81, of Brooten, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN surrounded by his family.  A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.  Burial will be 10:00 am Monday at Union Presbyterian Cemetery in Brooten.  A visitation will be held Sunday from 12-2:00 pm at the funeral home.  In honor of David please wear your favorite hat to the service.     

 David Elwood Strand was born June 27, 1938, in Belgrade MN to Ada (Allen) and Reinarth Strand. David was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Belgrade, MN (aka Grace Lutheran).  He attended school through the 8th grade in Belgrade MN. He then started working at various construction and mechanic jobs. David married Johnelle (Jacky) VonEschen on October 4, 1958. They celebrated their 60th-anniversary last year. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage with his buddy Neil and other friends, feeding the birds, drinking coffee with family and friends, visiting with his special little friend Melody Schroeder, and just going for a drive. David enjoyed his last years of working at Allied Blacktop of Maple Grove, MN until his retirement in 2003.

David is survived by wife Jacky of Brooten; children: Vicki (Larry ) Freese of Brooten, Kyle (Tammie) Strand of Brooten, and Erica (Rob) Steffensen of Brooten; grandchildren: Tanya (Jerry) Freese of Brooten, Sarah (Chad) Freese of Brooten, Jared (Micheala) Steffensen of Brooten, and Joshua (Abby)Steffensen of Brooten; great-grandchildren: Spencer Freese of Brooten, Jade (Dakota)Freese of Belgrade, Trista Freese of Brooten, and Faith Otteson of Brooten. David is also survived by his brothers, Ole (Pat) Strand of Bloomington, and Russel (Marlene) Strand of Georgeville; brother-in-law, Wes (Ruth) VonEschen of Brooten, sisters-in-law, Floris Strand of Rodgers, and Ila Strand of Willmar; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents Ada and Reinarth Strand; mother and father-in-law, Wesley and Hattie VonEschen; siblings, Chester Strand, Reinarth Strand Jr, Donald Strand, Gerald Strand, Bernice Fulmer, Hazel Snyder, and Pearl Stevens; and great-granddaughter, Makayla Otteson.

David had made peace with his passing as his great-grandson, Spencer said: “it is ok, Walt Disney has it right it is the circle of life.”
