Debbie Kozel Obituary

Debbie Kozel, age 59, of Willmar, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville following a battle with cancer.

A memorial service for Debbie will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org.

Debbie was born July 22, 1961, in Logan County, West Virginia, the daughter of Robert and Edna (Cremeans) Davis.  She grew up in Logan County and graduated from Logan High School in Logan West Virginia. She then attended Southern West Virginia Community College.

On June 2, 1999 she married Charles Kozel and they made their home in South Carolina.  They later moved to Upper Marlboro, Maryland and then to Sneads Ferry, North Carolina.  After Charles’ death on January 12, 2020, Debbie moved to Willmar, Minnesota to live near her daughter.

Debbie loved music, she taught piano lessons and played piano at her church in West Virginia for several years.  She was also a gifted artist.  Debbie was a spitfire with Southern class and a blunt sense of humor, she was always unapologetically herself and had a sense of humor that would make anyone burst out in laughter, one of her favorite sayings was “don’t be a Richard Cranium.”

She was a loving and giving woman who was kind to everyone she met.  She was also a natural caregiver at heart and cared for several family members during their illnesses.  Her family was most important to her and she cherished the time spent with them.

Debbie is survived by her children: Candace Hensely (and Cameron Pieske) of Willmar, MN and David Hensley of West Virginia, several grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband: Charles Kozel.
