Delores M. Kampsen 95, of Elrosa died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at the Belgrade Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 11:00 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 am at the church. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.
Delores Marie Kampsen was born on January 11, 1926, in Lake Henry Township, the daughter of Claud and Rose (Lenz) Hess. She grew up in Regal where she received her education at a small country school. After high school, Delores moved to Washington where she welded ships during World War II.
On September 24, 1946, Delores was united in marriage to Herman Kampsen at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Regal. This union was blessed with six sons and five daughters. The family made their home in rural Elrosa where Delores helped run the family farm. In her later years, Delores worked for Fingerhut and Jennie-O. She retired at the age of 74 to take care of Herman after knee surgery. On December 30, 2019, Herman died. They shared in 73 years of marriage before his death.
Delores was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, playing cards, watching baseball, reading, traveling with her sisters, dancing, and listening to Herman’s music. Delores was a great cook who loved cooking at holidays for her family. More than anything Delores loved her family and cherished spending time with them.
Delores is survived by her children: Margie (John) Bacis of Venice, FL, Tom (Anne) Kampsen of Belgrade, Kaye Kampsen of Chaska, Kenny Kampsen (friend Jenny) of Belgrade, Mike (Kathy) Kampsen of New London, Karen (Tom) Goerger of Cold Spring, Dave (Kim) Kampsen of Rogers, Joyce (Keith) Haider of Rice, Danny (fiancé Mary) Kampsen of Brooten, and Amy (Kris) Kampsen of Brooklyn Park; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren and two more on the way. She is also survived by her siblings: Allen (Lucy) Hess of Cold Spring, Danny (Joyce) Hess of Avon, and Joan Johnson of Pequot Lakes; and many nieces and nephews.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; son, Randy; siblings: infant brother, LeRoy Hess, Alice Younkin, Jeannette Ramler, Laverne Hess, and Floyd Hess.
