Dennis V. Bendickson, 87, of rural Pennock, died Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at his home. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022 at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake near New London. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm. Friday, September 30, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at church. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Dennis Virgil Bendickson was born on July 4, 1935, at the family home in Jericho, the son of Walter and Myrtle (Olson) Bendickson. He grew up in the area where he attended country grade school in District #16 and New London High School, graduating in 1953. After school he served his country in the National Guard for 6 years. On June 6, 1964, Dennis was united in marriage to Rachel Lundgren at Crow River Lutheran Church. They made their home in the Norway Lake area where he was a switchman for the railroad for 42 years, before retiring in 1997.
Dennis was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake where he served on council and usher. He also was a member of the New London American Legion and Eagles Club. He enjoyed reading, gardening, tinkering, traveling and going out to eat with Rachel, attending his “Old Goat” parties and being a grandpa. He will be remembered for his kind and quiet nature.
Dennis died at his home on September 14, 2022 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Rachel of 58 years; sons, Mark (Lisa) Bendickson, John (LaNae) Bendickson and David Bendickson; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise (Dave) Coauette and sister-in-law, Ardis Lundgren
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; and brother-in-law, Sig Lundgren; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hjelmer and Cora Lundgren.
