Don attended country school in rural Spicer and graduated from Willmar High School in 1969. He continued his education at Willmar Vo-Tech where he studied auto mechanics. They built their home in 1981, on the family farm land near Spicer where they would raise their family. Don loved camping, especially at Lake Okoboji, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Park. He and Susan also enjoyed going on cruises to St. Thomas, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal. Most recently, they enjoyed bus tours. He also had a special love for antique Oliver tractors and spent endless hours fixing and restoring them with his son.
