Donna Mae Asche

Donna Mae Asche, 93, of Willmar, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3rd at Compassionate Cottage in Willmar. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 16th at Assembly of God in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Donna Mae Samuelson was born on January 13th, 1933 in Willmar, the daughter of Clifford LeRoy and Edna (Halgrimson) Samuelson.

While growing up, Donna attended the Willmar Assembly of God Church with her family, where she was actively involved as a Sunday school teacher, a devoted member of Christ's Ambassadors youth ministry and their outreach to the community, and sang in the church choir, ladies trio, and at numerous weddings. 

She graduated from Willmar High School in 1951, where she also sang in the school choir, vocal ensembles and musical productions. Following High School, Donna continued her education at North Central Bible Institute. While attending college, she worked at Gerner's, a fashionable dress shop in downtown Minneapolis. 

Upon returning to Willmar, she worked at the First National Bank and eventually at the First Federal Savings & Loan as their head-teller. She also worked in the office at the Kandiyohi County Rural Electric Association.

Donna was united in marriage to Henry B. Asche on June 8th, 1961, at the Willmar Assembly of God. The couple lived and farmed in Woods Township and were blessed with their daughter, Juli. They attended Bethany Church in Clara City during their years at the farm, until moving to Willmar in 2006. 

Donna was an excellent homemaker, hosting many family gatherings, and often welcoming friends, neighbors and Henry's seed, feed and oil customers into their home for coffee, lunch and good conversation. Donna loved being outside enjoying nature and took meticulous care of her yard and home. While living at the farm she also enjoyed serving as an election judge for many years. Donna loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, family vacations, and shopping excursions. 

Music was always a very important part of her life. Music filled her home on a daily basis, from early morning until into the evening. There was always a song in her heart or a tune playing on the stereo or radio. She knew hundreds of songs and catchy radio jingles from years past, but her favorite music was the cherished hymns she so dearly enjoyed listening to and singing along.

She is survived by her daughter: Juli (and John) Wearda of Willmar; grandchildren: Kaitlin, Brock, Kristin, Bret; and many nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents; sister, Rosamond Lindquist-Smith; brothers, Earl, Paul, Daniel and Harold Samuelson.
