Dorothy A. Hanson, 96, of New London, died Sunday, May 30, 2021 at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
Dorothy Adeline Hanson was born on December 19, 1924, in Willmar, to Hjalmar and Clara (Olsen) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1942. She then worked for NW Bell Telephone Co. for 4 years in Willmar, Faribault, Northfield and Red Wing.
On August 3, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage to Merrill Hanson. After his US Army service, he was re-employed by the US Dept. of Agriculture. They lived in various locations including 10 years in Seattle and 15 years in Chicago.
After retirement in 1972, they moved to George Lake near Spicer and wintered in McAllen, Texas. In 2001, they moved to the Bit of New England condos in New London. She and Merrill were able to share in 67 years of marriage before his death on April 16, 2013.
Dorothy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she served on Altar Guild and ELCW.
Dorothy is survived by children, Donald (Linda) Hanson of New London and Betty Levstik of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Jasmine Hall, Kara (Adam) Paleafei, Ben Hanson, Tracy Levstik and Sarah (Adam) Gross; numerous great-grandchildren and brother, Dennis (Karen) Peterson of Spicer.
