Doug Stewart Obituary

Douglas S. Stewart, 76, of Willmar, died Monday, November 16th at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.  There will be a Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 11th at Clover Leaf Cemetery with coffee to follow at McMillan's Family Restaurant at 2:00 pm.  Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.  www.hafh.org

Doug was born May 24, 1944, in Albert Lea, MN, the son of Theodore and Margaret (Simms) Stewart.  He graduated from Willmar High School in 1962 and attended the University of Arizona where he graduated with a degree in fine arts and theatre.  Doug worked and acted at the Pasadena Playhouse in California before returning to Willmar in 1970, working as a Dependency Counselor at West Central Mental Health Center.  He then taught CD counseling, speech, and also directed plays at Ridgewater College as well directing at The Barn Theatre for over 30 years.  He retired in 2007.

Doug enjoyed reading, winter travel to Mexico and Arizona, having coffee and dinner with family and friends.  He also volunteered, as co-coordinator of the Native American Awareness Gathering held annually at Ridgewater College. Doug served on the Board of Sexual Violence and Abuse Crisis Center in Kandiyohi County and he was a man of strong faith.

He is survived by his brother, Ted (and JoAnn) Stewart of Loudan, TN, nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces as well as colleagues and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
