Doulgas Holmgren, 84, of Pennock, died Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the St. Cloud Hospital. His memorial service will be 10:30 am, Saturday, September 28, at Salem Covenant Church in rural Pennock. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Friday at the church and continue one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Douglas Loren Holmgren was born on the family farm in Pennock, Minnesota, on October 18, 1939, to Harold and Lorene (Walrath) Holmgren. He grew up on the family farm near Pennock and attended District 15N country school before graduating from Kerkhoven High School in 1957. On May 7, 1960, Doug was united in marriage to Darlene Leslie at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. They made their home in Waseca, where Doug worked as a milk truck driver. In 1962, Darlene and Doug moved back to the family farm near Pennock where they made their home and raised their four children: Selina, Wanda, Steven and Duane. Doug continued to farm until the time of his death.
Doug was a member of Salem Covenant Church and served as a trustee. He was also a past member of the Mamre Township Board. Doug loved farming, but also enjoyed deer hunting, woodworking and collecting Reader’s Digest in his spare time. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and friend.
Doug is survived by his children: Selina (Bill) Berning of Litchfield and their children: Brittney (Chad) Jaber and Nicole; Wanda Holmgren of Faribault and her children: Sigrid, Hazel and Metta; Steven Holmgren of Willmar; and Duane (Brianna) Holmgren of Pennock and their children: Emma, Lily, Brinley and Jase. Also surviving are two brothers: Richard (Linda) Holmgren and Eugene (Barbara) Holmgren; two sisters-in-law: Carolyn Holmgren and Mariann Holmgren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Darlene in March 2022; three brothers: Robert Holmgren, Keith Holmgren and Duane Holmgren and a niece: Denise Holmgren.
