Douglas Thompson Obituary

Douglas Thompson, 66, of Alexandria, formerly of Willmar, passed away Saturday, October 16, at Alex Assisted Living in Alexandria.  His memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation two hours prior to the service.

Douglas Ralph Thompson was born November 3, 1954, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Ellsworth “Tommy” and Arlene (Erickson) Thompson.  He grew up, the youngest of 3 siblings, working with his father on the farm. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1972 and attended Willmar Technical College.  In May 1976, he married Patricia Eischens and they had two children: Trent and Cori.  Growing up he found a love for farming and after graduation, Douglas established Lake Path Dairy & Farms southeast of Willmar and ran this successful farming operation for 42 years, until his retirement in 2014.  While farming, he also worked as a music/concert promoter, hauling deer hides for the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, and tiling.  In 2001 Doug was blessed to meet Debra (Maloney) Oleson and her daughters, Angela & Lindsey.  Doug and Deb were united in marriage on December 23, 2014.

Douglas enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, gun collecting, auctions, and camping with friends.  After retirement, Doug and Deb enjoyed travelling and exploring new areas.  In 2017, they built their retirement home, settling on the south shores of Lake Ida near Alexandria on the former Maloney summer cabin property.  There, Doug enjoyed lake life to the fullest.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife: Debra Oleson of Alexandria; their children: Trent (Hope) Thompson of Willmar, Cori Thompson of Willmar, Angela (Sinon) Janay of Woodbury, and Lindsey (Nate) Bosek of Sartell; and seven grandchildren: Isaac (fiancée Karissa Hanby) and Ian Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Richard and Estella Janay, and Elise and Brooklyn Bosek.  Also surviving are his siblings: Jerome (Marilyn) Thompson of Willmar and Carol Cafferty of Houston, TX; sister-in-law Renae (Tom) Hills, brother-in-law Patrick Maloney, both of Alexandria; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ellsworth “Tommy” and Arlene Thompson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Eugene and RoseAnn Maloney.
