Duane R Olson

Duane R. Olson, 89, of Willmar, died Sunday, March 28th at Carris Health Rice Hospital in Willmar. His interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org

Duane Roger Olson was born on February 19, 1932, to Oscar and Elvina (Reigstad) Olson in Willmar. He grew up in Lake Lillian where he attended country school. Following his schooling he started working at Chappell Central. In 1952 he left Chappell to enlist in the Army where he served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Following his discharge he returned to Chappell Central where he worked until his retirement in 1998. Duane was a member of United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna Olson; children: Steven Olson of Asheville, NC, Roger Schaeffer of Willmar, Debra Olson of Brooklyn Park, Daniel Schaeffer of Coon Rapids, Rita Jeanne Vadner of Paynesville, Scott Olson of Loveland, CO, and Robin McCormack of Willmar; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Dennis Olson of Minnetonka and Arliss Kelly of McCall, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Virgil Olson, Carroll Olson, and Donna VanScyoc.
