Duane Stanley Schueler was born January 17, 1944, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Helen (Larson) Schueler. He grew up in Raymond and was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He attended Sunnyside School and graduated from Raymond High School in 1962. He began working for Farm Service Elevator in Willmar. On April 21, 1964, he married the love of his life, Candee Berghuis at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City and they made their home in Willmar. They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this month and he would have bought her flowers, as he loved to do that often.
Duane later worked at Molenaar Plastic and Erickson’s Furniture, before starting Duane & Candee’s Carpet Service. Duane installed carpet and flooring for many years before very reluctantly retiring at age 74. He also was an active member of First Reformed Church in Willmar, where he served as both elder and deacon, and on the congregational care team and building committee. For many years he also enjoyed his bowling and softball leagues He loved spending time outdoors, lazing the day away fishing with Candee, camping, working in his yard and garden, and the annual family trip to Park Rapids. He also enjoyed several cruises, trips to Sanibel Island, watching his favorite westerns from his comfy recliner with a great view of the birds and squirrels he lured to the patio, and having coffee with his buddies, sometimes several times a day. He was a gifted wood-worker, and made pieces for each of his beloved grandchildren.
