Elaine Florence Korsmo (née Hanson), 85, of Raymond, formerly of Minneapolis died Sunday, October 3rd, at Parmly on the Lake Care Center in Chisago City. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, October 8th at Raymond United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to her service. Burial will be at East Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery, in New London. A Luncheon and Celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at The Oaks at Eagle Creek, in Willmar, immediately following her burial. Elaine Florence (Hanson) Korsmo was born to Emil and Elsie (Golden) Hanson, in Benson. Elaine was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She attended school in Montevideo where she graduated from high school in 1954. After high school she served in the Women’s Army Corps for two years. Following her honorable discharge, Elaine married Wilbert Roger Schoen in 1957 in Baltimore, MD where they met, and both worked for the NSA. They returned to Minnesota to raise their four daughters and divorced in 1970. Elaine worked for the Minneapolis School Board for 27 years and retired in 1995. On June 24, 1994, Elaine was united in marriage to Kenneth Korsmo and they moved to Raymond where they made their home. Elaine was a member of the Raymond United Methodist Church and a dedicated member of the New London American Legion. She was a talented poet, and enjoyed playing the violin and piano, collecting angels, country music, dancing, and cats.
Elaine is survived by daughters: Theresa (Reed) Sprung, Leslie (Daniel) Geist, Lisa (Stuart) Wakefield; grandchildren: Stephanie (Gian-Paul), Jennifer(Abraham), Matthew (Azra), Nicole (Steve), Melissa (Matthew), Katie (Taver), Reed Jr., Dylan, Laura (Riley), Shawna (James), Samuel, and Molly; 18 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters: Tammy (David) Garberich, Debbie (Kim) Baker, Jodi (Steven) Miller, Lori Thorson; 37 step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Korsmo; parents, Emil and Elsie (Golden) Hanson; daughter, Laura Schoen; sister, Kathleen Strand; and stepson; David Korsmo.
