Elroy A. Gast

Elroy A. Gast, 89, of Willmar, died Saturday, February 13th at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.  www.hafh.org

Elroy Allen Gast was born March 1, 1931, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Walter and Ida (Rhoda) Gast.  He grew up in rural Willmar and attended country school.  Elroy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  On October 13, 1956, he married LaVonne Heining at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar.  They purchased a farm south of Willmar, where Elroy farmed for 64 years until retiring in 1991. 

Elroy was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar, where he served as a trustee and an usher.  Elroy enjoyed his time farming and milking his cows.  In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards.

He is survived by his wife: Lavonne Gast of Willmar; a daughter: Iris Nieland of New London; one granddaughter; a brother: Darvin Gast of Willmar; and a sister: Myrtle Elsing of Willmar; and several nieces and nephews as well as in-laws: Arlene Johnson of Grove City, June Brabec of Arizona and Boyd (and Barb) Nelson of Faribault.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter: Laurie Gast in 2008.
