Ernest J. Johnson

Ernest J. Johnson 82, of Belgrade, died Friday, April 10, 2020, at his home in Belgrade.  Due to the COVID-19, pandemic a private family service will be held at a later date.       Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.  www.hafh.org

Ernest Jerald Johnson was born July 23, 1937, in Brooten, MN the son of Gilman and Christine (Baalson) Johnson.  During his teenage years, the family moved to New Brighton, MN where Ernest graduated from Edison High School.  After high school, Ernest enlisted in the United States Navy.  Ernest made a career out of the Navy serving his country until May 8, 1974, when he earned his honorable discharge.

Ernest was united in marriage to Carolynne BeCraft on June 4, 1956, in Elizabeth City, NC.  This union was blessed with four daughters and two sons.  After Ernest’s retirement from the Navy, the family made their home in Belgrade where he worked as a carpenter.  Ernest loved working with wood and continued to do so until his health deteriorated. 

Ernest is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolynne; children:  Sharon (Brian) Jones of Renville, Carol Vandine of Mt. Dora, FL, Donald of Hector, Stephanie (Richard) Miller of Alexandria, and Steve (Jennifer) of St. Cloud; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.   

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Susan; daughter-in-law, Grace; son-in-law, Bart Vandine; two brothers; and two sisters.
