Fred Anderson Obituary

Fred Anderson, 76, of Willmar, died Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in hospice care at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.

His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar and will be streamed at www.bethelinwillmar.org. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church.

Frederick Howard Anderson was born August 17, 1948, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm and was baptized and confirmed at Beckville Lutheran Church. He attended country school at District 34 and graduated from Litchfield High School, where he was a member of Band of America and Allstate choir. Fred attended St. Cloud State and the University of Minnesota where he played baritone in the U of M marching band. Fred continued his passion for music by singing at various church events. He loved birds, whistling, golfing, and reading. He was an avid hunter and trap shooter and spent 40 years pheasant hunting with friends in the Dakotas.

On March 20, 1971, Fred married Candy Mohler at Litchfield United Methodist Church. They made their home in Willmar and had two children, Sarah Jane and Peter. Fred owned and operated the Dairy Queen restaurants in Willmar for 40 years before retiring in 2014. Fred and Candy enjoyed wintering in Arizona for the past 13 years and they loved to travel abroad. The light of his life was his grandchildren, Liv and Piper - they loved his silliness.

Fred was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served in the choir.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Candy; his children: Sarah Jane (Jeff) Hoppe of Tacoma, WA, and Peter (Tina) Anderson of Esko, MN; two grandchildren; and two brothers: Bob (Carol) Anderson of Rosemount, MN, and Dale (Ann) Anderson of Hugo, MN.  Also surviving are a sister-in-law: Ronie (John) George; and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clifford and Phyllis (Nelson) Anderson.
