Fremont (Bob) Laurel Healy, 103, was born January 19, 1921 and passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6th, 2025. Prior to his passing he had remained in remarkable health for his age, requiring assistance with very little in his day to day cares and activities. He was born and raised in Hancock, Minnesota and was the youngest of 9 siblings. His parents were Frank E. Healy and Caroline M. (Haufschild) Healy. He attended Hancock Public School and graduated in 1939. He then attended Dunwoody Institute of Technology where he took auto mechanics and associated studies. In 1948 he married Alice Louise Olson. Fremont built a home for the 2 of them in rural Hancock and he farmed with his brother Fritz, well into his 80’s. He then rented the farm out and he and Alice moved to Willmar, MN. He and Alice were married for 66 years and raised 6 children, 5 daughters and 1 son. He was an active member of the Hancock, Morris, and Willmar Evangelical Free Churches. He served as a deacon, taught and attended adult Bible studies, was a member of the Gideons International; he drove school bus for 33 years until the age of 76; he sang with the Joy Singers, delivered Meals on Wheels until his mid 90’s; he tutored children in Texas when he and Alice wintered at Bibleville, along with joining the Ukulele singers and Bibleville choir. He loved puzzling, woodworking, and was an all around handy man, attempting and often succeeding at fixing anything that was broken. Above all else, Fremont deeply loved the Lord and was a living testimony of the love of God. He loved his family and extended love to those around him in his gentle, loving manner. He remembered the details of so many happenings in life and surprised many by asking them how someone in their family was. Dad lived the last 4 last years at Copperleaf Assisted Living and was adopted by many as their ‘grandpa’. He will be missed by many and the memories will go on forever.
Fremont was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Healy, all 8 siblings, granddaughter, Hannah Viss; daughter, Diane Madison; son-in-law, Brad Viss; son-in-law, Bradley Hetler; great grandson, Ethan Hazen-Brown; and great grandson, Soren Dykstra. He is survived by his children, Carol (Tom) Hazen, Evelyn (Steve) Mulder, Tim (Deb) Healy, Bonita Viss (Tim Moehling), Sheryl (Ray) Younger, 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at Living Hope Church at 1305 19th Avenue SW in Willmar, MN. 56201, on Sunday January 19th at 3pm with visitation 1 hour prior. The celebration will be recorded.
