Gary was born February 4, 1949, in Willmar, the son of Donald and Lorraine (Fremberg) Danielson.  He grew up in Willmar until he was nine years old and then moved with his family to rural New London.  Gary graduated from New London – Spicer High School with the Class of 1967, and earned his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1971.  On September 12, 1970, Gary was united in marriage to Lynnette Swedberg at the Evangelical Free Church in Willmar.  Gary worked for the Minnesota State Highway Department in St. Paul and Willmar for ten years.  He continued his engineering career at the City of Willmar for one year before accepting the position of Kandiyohi County Highway Engineer in 1982, later adding Public Works Director to his title.  He used his gift as a leader at the County for 32 years, retiring in 2014.

Gary and Lynnette were blessed with five sons, living in rural New London, where the boys were free to run and explore.  Gary taught his sons to hunt and fish when they were young.  He enjoyed taking trips to Canada and the Dakotas for fishing and hunting.  His favorite trips included taking his sons and grandchildren fishing in Canada with a group from New London.  Prairie Pothole Day was a family tradition each September.

Gary was active at Living Hope Church as an Elder, adult Sunday school teacher, and mentor.  He loved the Lord and lived his faith in Jesus at work and home.  He enjoyed following his boys in sports, car renovations, and teaching them about God and life.  Gary was an NLS School Board member until cancer no longer allowed him to continue.  He enjoyed teaching gun training to youngsters.

Surviving is Gary’s loving wife of 50 years, Lynnette; their sons and families: Nathan and Tracy (Grace, Olivia, Aubrey, Juliet and Claire), Eric and Amy Marie (Sophia, Caleb, Matthew, and Ayla), Joel and Amy Sue (William and Susannah), Jedd and fiance’ Callie Nelson, Michael and Hannah (Graham).  Also surviving are his mother, Lorraine; sisters, Deb (Don) Schmitzerle and Carol Danielson; mother-in-law, Doris Swedberg; brothers-in-law, Dan Swedberg and David (Marnie) Swedberg; sister-in-law, Joni Larrieu; and his nieces and nephews.
