Gary Schroeder

Gary Schroeder, 85, of Willmar, died Saturday, January 11th at his home. His funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, January 17th at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson& Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to his service. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Atwater. www.hafh.org

Gary Roger Schroeder was born February 19, 1939, to Herbert and Irene (Minks) Schroeder in Kandiyohi. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Atwater on April 2, 1939, and later confirmed on May 10, 1953. At an early age, Gary learned a strong work ethic which he carried throughout his life as a farmer. He attended elementary school at St John Lutheran School and following his schooling he started working full time on the family farm. In 1957, Gary was drafted in the US Army and honorably served until 1959. On January 16, 1960, Gary was united in marriage to Gloria Voight at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI, and to this union five children were born: James, Geraldine, Corey, Chris and Kelly. They made their home in Kandiyohi and became members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Gary started working for Jennie-O Turkey Company in production and continued to work their for 14 years before retiring in 2017. He enjoyed driving anything John Deere, Sunday drives, casino trips and playing cards with family and friends. He was a loving husband, dad, gramps and friend.

He is survived by his children: James Schroeder of Mesa, AZ, Geraldine Adams of Benson, Corey (Tanya) Schroeder of Benson, and Chris Schroeder of Willmar; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: LaVonne Gronli of Spicer, Sharon Zaeska of Willmar, Garnette (Gary) Brunson of Henderson, Betty Lou (Floyd) Kragenbring of Atwater, and Iris Johnson of Spicer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria in 2017, parents, three brothers and daughter, Kelly Schroeder.
